Went through the comments because I have some kind of morbid fascination when it comes to public internet hissy fits. Amid all the wankery about "intellectual property" and "trust," it seems like the reason it was taken down wasn't even because it was being used in pervy ways. According to the author, all someone did was make the kids killable and took some of the armor without credit. That kinda makes the "taking my ball and going home" meltdown seem even sillier to me.

Vitriol, if you're going to be updating your backpack mod, would it be possible to give the leather backpack in your mod the same container/portable bedroll functionality it has in this leather backpack mod? I've always wanted to use this, but the way your mod puts backpacks on everybody in the wasteland was too good to give up and I try to avoid conflicts where I can. In the meantime I just use a portable bedroll mod on top of yours, but it would be nice to have them consolidated into one mod.

I'm going to look into it, that was one of the things I was hoping to do, but last time around got kind of distracted by bright, shiny things. I'm going to start actually working on this over my next weekend, in fact.

what? Yikes.
FWIW, my crashes problems from a few pages ago completely went away when I got rid of ElectroCity Highways & Biways.

I'm currently using Western Skies because Nevada Skies made the nights extremely dark. I prefer darker than vanilla nights, but that was just too extreme. Also the night vision mode in the old version of Project Nevada seemed more or less worthless. Now that I have the new version of PN, the night vision seems super badass and useful, I thought I'd switch back to Nevada Skies, however doing so cause constantly crashing during cell transitions. All my mods are installed through FOMM, and I deactivated WS, then installed NS. As I recall there was something that was overwritten, but I figured it was just replacing some texture or some poo poo from one of the retexture packs I have. Does the order in which you activate the mods matter? Is there perhaps something else I was missing that makes NS so crashy? I'd guess it would crash about 50% of the time on cell transitions. After deactivating and going back to WS it worked fine again.

Here is my load order, except replace WS with NS. I don't remember exactly where in the load order NS was, but it was where ever BOSS autosort told it to be:

You know what, having a companion with a different set of skills that you can improve by use and upgrade with books (like the courier himself does) is actually a pretty cool idea and I think improves on the whole companion mechanic by making them more useful outside of combat. Everything else about the mod is retarded though

I really dig the skill system and tagging skills; it makes sense that if you train a companion as a locksmith, they can handle that for you if you bring them along but without the "This companion has perfect lockpicking, survival, free repairs, 100 in guns and a custom auto sniper rifle!" that most mods that think about skills bring along. Plus using a notion of loadout slots for weapons, that your NPC can get better with instead of locked stats, and actually denoting what/when the NPC has acquired a target.

It's far more functional than sketchy. Because it's the Nexus there is little hope of also getting the guy you rescue from the Khans as a companion, but it'd be fun to roll with those two plus Boone as a small NCR detachment.
