It wasn't a bad book but Malgus's characterization ends up being really bad. I don't want to spoil it but I felt like the writer couldn't decide where he should be on the line of sympathetic to comic book villain because he really looks like a jackass compared to the other Sith Lords in the book. The heroes don't really end up as much to write home about but I guess that's typical for Star Wars novels.

Speaking of too old. The only character I can recall that was allowed to get old was Ackbar and die with peaceful dignity He could easily have been written into a scene were someone has to swim there way to victory. "What are you doing with that thermal detonator Admiral, that aqueduct leads into the heart of the evil facility?" "Its a trap."

Not to spoil Deceived too much, but count free falling through an atmosphere and slowing your fall enough to land safely by rolling once you hit the surface of a planet to a Jedi's book of tricks. Wearing nothing but a standard O2 mask.

^^^It's kind of contradictory to explain the scene in detail when you dont mean to spoil it. So I have a request, I don't know if this is for a movie that's almost 35 years old but if it is then don't worry about it, but I have an odd request. I brought my Star Wars OT DVDs with me into the Peace Corps and I feel kinda bad my family can't watch it since there's no subtitles for the local language, so I wanna make it a project to translate them and do the subtitles manually since Star Wars generally doesn't use complicated language. The question is does anyone have the scripts for the OT movies? Google only turns up older drafts of the a new hope script. It would be less work to have a script in front of me then to copy it all down manually THEN start translating. RagnarokAngel fucked around with this message at 13:15 on Aug 6, 2011 |

A reminder that Leia was a duly elected Senator in the Imperial Senate by the time she was 18, ran a large tract of the Rebellion in her spare time, had 3 kids and was the Chief of State of the entire New Republic by the time she was 28. In their 30s, her kids were having bug orgies while their parents were still out saving the galaxy.

Halfway through "Choices of One" and enjoying it as much as I have the other Zahn SW books. Makes me want to read the sequel trilogy again. Random comment/link that I'm sure has been posted in this thread/discussed/probably hated on by some: http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000510.html (Star Wars: Robot Chicken part 1) Just think it's a really fun parody with good voicework/writing/animation. Parts 2 + 3 are good too.

Two things I don't like about Choices of One 1) the absolute tease of Mara Jade and "meeting but not" Skywalker 2) the lovely twist with the guy and his pilot on the Chimaera The rest of it's great.

arioch posted:Two things I don't like about Choices of One Yeah, regarding 1) Zahn kind of was stuck in a corner to have them not meet each other. I'd need to re-read the Thrawn trilogy where they met each other but it has to be really hard to write Luke/Mara together without needing a retcon. I liked his attempt to develop Han Solo a bit, since when you compare him in Ep4 vs. Ep5 he really does seem like much more of a soldier/officer in Ep5. Also we were supposed to think that Lord Odo/Sorro was Thrawn/Car'das? Or did I read too much into stuff. I wonder if/when we'll get a reboot of the post-ROTJ EU. Take the Thrawn trilogy books as canon and disregard every other EU book. And get the few good authors (Allston, Zahn, Stover) to reboot the NJO from scratch. Or to go in a completely different direction. It'd never happen and instead we'll just get more 70-year old geriatric Luke/Han/Leia, but a man can dream. Also I haven't actually read Outbound Flight or Allegiance. Are they worth picking up? I've liked everything else from Zahn.

I thought Outbound Flight was amazing. Maybe his best book since the original Thrawn Trilogy. Allegiance I thought was hugely dull, maybe not actively 'bad' relatively but bad in terms of Zahn. It's actually made me hesitate to read Choices of One.

I picked up the Tales of The Jedi Omnibus #1 yesterday for $5 bucks. Reading early 90's EU stuff feels so weird now. The stories were so much more imaginative and out there.

We were definitely meant to think Lord Odo and Sorro were Thrawn and Car'das, and the problem I have with it is that the manner in which the twist is constructed is almost entirely based on the structure of the novel rather than anything that's available in the text.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I didn't enjoy Outbound Flight or Survivor's Quest that much, mainly because I had to keep referring back to the diagram of the ship that was on the first couple of pages. I sorta felt like Zahn went a little overboard on details in those two.

No, it's from a company and director that have done many (very explicit) porn parodies in the past. 90% of people are going to fast-forward through the porn, though.

I don't know anything about the American legal system, so I was wondering: How far are you actually allowed go in the name of "parody"? They're using the original names and music, and costumes and ships that are as close as you can get. Of course Lucasfilm is going to sue the hell out of them. Do you think the producers have a valid case, or are they counting on being able to sell enough copies to make a profit before the cease and desist order comes down?

Dave Syndrome posted:Of course Lucasfilm is going to sue the hell out of them. Maybe not. Lucasfilm is incredibly laid-back about their copyrights by Hollywood standards. The whole series is on Youtube, and fans get away with murder in what they appropriate for fanfilms. Basically if you're not running a Star Wars business they don't care. They might care about a large-scale porn, but honestly they might just prefer not to draw attention to it. And while I'd hate to go toe-to-toe with Lucas in federal court, the law is actually pretty generous with respect to porn parodies.

After sex occurred, Onith used her razor-sharp tongue to gut Trevagg, as was customary for H'nemthe females to do. She left his corpse at the inn and returned to her homeworld, where she gained notoriety for being the first female of her species to attempt mating with a non-H'nemthe. No longer a virgin, she became free to travel offworld, but preferred to remain on the planet and speak publicly about her experience. Sounds like it's practically ready-made for porn parody inclusion!
