The best way to fight things in the Mako is to not fight and just keep driving. The Mako sucks and there's hardly any part of the main plot that actually throws enough enemies in one area that it requires you to fight in those overworld driving segments, even on Insanity you can survive just by driving by everyone shooting at you.

I'm playing on Easy since I get frustrated fairly easily and I've heard this game is quite difficult.

Aard and Igni signs (force push and fire) are the best. Gather all the ingredients and use potions and sword oils liberally.

Sadly I don't remember enough gameplay specifics to be helpful beyond that...

Push through the first act if you find it boring, the game and its choices severely open up after that. And don't be discouraged if the Act I boss kicks your rear end, it's easily one of, if not the, toughest encounter in the game due to your abilities at the time.

The Mako isn't terrible, just sometimes you have to use it to ZOOM (apparently a lot of people don't realize you can do that?) and snipe from a distance.

I hate to ask about this one since so many people have before, but I'm about to start playing Demon's Souls. I was reading the Before I Play site, and I remember someone throwing down a suggested level progression (something like play 1-1, then 1-2, then 2-1, etc) and that's not on the site. Also, the site says:

"The Demon's Soul items dropped by bosses can be traded for unique weapons and magic. Don't use them unless you're sure they're no good to you. "

Does this mean don't use the items the bosses drop, or don't use the unique weapons and magic? I'm confused.

Pretend it says "eat" instead of "use." Basically don't turn them into souls by using them in your inventory.

You are also able to trade them for magic and weapons you can't get otherwise. Get it?

It's not too bad on easy. I've played through it twice on easy, probably the best bits of advice I can give you are:

-Swallow potion is your favorite potion, since it drastically increases health regen. For some of the fights in the second half of the game, it's basically mandatory, so always keep a few handy.

-Invest in the silver stamina talent that reduces the Pain effect by 50% (not sure if it's reduced duration or chance, but either way you want it) because otherwise you'll get stunlocked by specters and that's bullshit.

-If you find yourself getting stunlocked by enemies with the Stun or Knockdown effect, the Willow potion nullifies those effects completely. Note that you can literally be one hit killed when stunned, so if that happens, reload and drink a willow first. This doesn't seem to come up terribly often though

-Note also that you can one shot enemies that are stunned yourself. It's never a terrible idea to cast Aard into a big group of enemies and one shot the ones that get stunned. Aard is a good sign to use.

-The only weapons worth using are the two swords. For the other weapon slots, just pick whatever you think looks coolest hanging off your belt, you'll never be using them.

Or early on, whatever has the highest resale value.

Late game, keeping a second Steel Sword with different additional effects around could be useful, but it's not exactly going to make or break you.

Worlds get harder as you progress through them so most people go through the first tier (2-1, 3-1, etc) then the next tier then so on. Generally I start my games off by using a royal with soul arrow to beat 1-1/get the cling and thief rings, go to 5-1 and get a blessed hammer, go to 4-1 and beat all the skeletons with said hammer and get the adjudicator shield/crescent falchion then go to town on the rest of the game.

So, to be a bit more constructive, the big problem with Oblivion is that it's easy for enemies to outstrip you at higher levels and leave you with no way of fixing it.

See, when you level up, the number of skills you've raised during that level govern what bonuses are available to what attributes. So if you raise a lot of Endurance skills, you might find a nice +4 or +5 next to Endurance when you level up. Because enemies scale to your level at all times, it's always better to have 2 or more +5s during level up and you should usually allocate those to your combat attributes first.

If you don't, and you're playing on a medium or hard difficulty, then eventually the monsters will simply have better stats than you. The problem won't be one you can fix on your next level-up or by buying better equipment or by coming back at a higher level, because it will have been going on for too long.

If you want to get down into the nitty-gritty of it, just read up on efficient leveling at the Oblivion wiki. They also have some good advice on leveling in general.

As far as more general advice goes, here's another big one: you may wish to hold off on the main quest...indefinitely. When you leave the tutorial sewers the main quest will send you to Chorrol, and then to Kvatch. Visiting Kvatch triggers a world-event that persists for a very long time and is one of the most tedious aspects of the game. You can postpone it as long as you like by simply never visiting Kvatch.

When you start out, try to do a circuit of the roads around the Imperial City. There'll be bandits aplenty, but also some good starter quests. Specifically, find the hamlet of Aleswell (due N of the Imperial City) and help out the townsfolk. You get a free bed and chest as a reward.

You can pick up some free enchanted armor early on by joining either the Arena (in the Imperial City) or the Dark Brotherhood (by murdering someone). The Arena has spares of their armor, whereas the Brotherhood doesn't, so you'll have to repair it yourself.

If you're playing a spellcaster, you'll want to hit up the mage guild in all the outlying cities and do the recommendation quests ASAP. The reward is entrance to the Arcane University in the Imperial City, and access to custom spellmaking and enchanting altars.

Be sure to keep the following items: ayleid ancestor statues, shadowbanish wine, and nirnroots.

Keep an eye out for daedric statues in the wilderness. Each one will have a pretty involved quest that usually comes with a unique reward. The quests are all level-restricted and you need a specific offering for each statue, but you can usually talk to one of the supplicants nearby to get that info.

If you train up Illusion, you can very easily break the game in your favour.

Armorer is possibly the most useful skill. Equipment degrades quickly, and you need to be able to repair magical equipment on the fly.

Halo 3 Multiplayer

Most of yours kills, especially early on will be running into a guy spraying your assault rifle and finishing off with a melee. This is important and takes more skill than just spray-and-pray. Learn to get a feel when to run straight at a guy, back up, or melee. It's best to avoid throwing frag grenades in the middle of a classic AR encounter, however sticky grenades and even spike grenades prove to be useful as people tend to run straight at you most of the time.

The Battle Rifle is like the cooler than the AR friend you have that you don't get to spend as much time with. Always try to pick up a BR. Memorize where they spawn, they come back pretty quickly. Learning the four shot is key. Three shots to the body and one to the head for a quick, easy, satisfying kill. Never. NEVER throw a grenade in the middle of a mid-range, open field encounter. You will die. (unless your opponent is considerably worse than you) Zooming in is of course useful for accuracy, but don't over use it at medium distances, as having a wide field of vision is critical for staying alive.

If you get the sniper, don't try to no-scope/quickscope (unless you know what you're doing). You'll make an rear end of yourself, and waste the sniper rounds. If you feel the need to try to impress anyone, impress your friends in Customs.

And for the love of God don't be a team killing fucktard (unless they are the biggest jerks this side of Xbox LIVE)

What of Theme Hospital?

Going back a page, I love this game so here are a couple more good tips, some expanded on whats already been said:

After level 3 or 4 usually build and keep at least 4 GP offices together. This is where most of your patients spend their time as they head to it on arrival, come back to it after every diagnosis room and before being sent for treatment so you want to keep the moving. Give the rooms and seating a fair bit of room. If it’s more open and spaced they are less like to all start vomiting.

If someone is dying in your hospital and you won't cure them in time either send them home or my favourite, hover over the room/door they are queuing at so the little menu pops up, right click on them and send them to another hospital. It does actually seem to cause them to die at the competing hospitals.

Don't bother doing emergencies with over 5/6 patients. It takes ages for them to land the drat helicopter and then get to the treatment room depending on the proximity to the helipad. For operating room emergencies don't go over 2/3.

Hire everyone that looks capable in the first month of staring a new level; otherwise you may end up stuck for months trying to hire a surgeon and psychiatrist as there are none available. It’s worth having a rubbish/slow specialist than none at all.

In general, I don't think so - I can think of only one time where the game stringently checks which way you've gone, and even then I'm fairly sure those checks are based of events, just like anything else.

On the other hand, there is a kind of progression to the crafting tree, and a couple battle's worth of drops can make a lot of difference on that front.

These games are pretty simple and you won't really be able to back your self into a corner. Standard point and click game strategy applies of click on every thing.

Might as well watch the movies before hand to ramp up the nostalgia factor, that's probably why you are playing then in the first place any way.

Just know that the end of the game goes off the deep end story wise. It's an enjoyable game, and you'll have fun with it, but don't run and gun I'd say. Try to sneak around, because being caught is more trouble than it's worth. Also, all the bosses have an endurance meter that can be taken down with the tranq gun, and makes it so they don't count against your kills. I don't remember if anything is different when you don't kill people, but it's an option of course.

As with all MGS games that have it, you will have an easier time with the game if you tranq the guards instead of killing them. Guards wont investigate any further when they find one of their buddies sleeping. They will just wake them up and continue as normal.

If I remember right it's the only way to unlock the creepy stuff by spending like 100+ turns per map (which is a poo poo-ton of battles). It's actually a nice buffer so you don't accidentally stumble upon creepytown, that is, unless you were actively hunting that stuff down which would take hours. Most people will be done with a map in about 30ish turns. Other than these kind of events, you wont be missing anything you haven't listed.

As much as I enjoyed the combo system and the crazy attacks, I don't think I'll be touching the sequel.

If you knock out a guard, shoot him with the tranquilizer gun. As someone said above, the guards won't do anything other than wake them up, but if they're unconscious, they will call in reinforcements.
You can hold L1 to auto-aim in first person view and to run and gun in third person.
In first person view, press L2 and R2 to inch to the sides. If you hold both at the same time, you can stand on your tiptoes.
Tapping R2 twice will reload your weapon instantly.
If you call an elevator twice, it will come quicker. This works in all MGS games.

I played it on my PC using a 360 controller no problem but I have the GoG version so I don't know how Steam compares to it.
