I was into anime/manga for well over 20 years, and did took 1 and 1/2 year of japanese classes. However, my interest was mostly on the 'standard nerd' type of stories (scifi/samurai/fantasy stories). Nothing wrong in learning a new language, however I got your point in learning a new language to consume even more quantities of arguable 'art'. I wouldn't say that the increased interest in 'bad' animes is the cause for the 'fall of the american empire', but certainly it's a symptom that things aren't ok. Thanks anyway If you're savvy enough, open up the activity window and look at all the files being downloaded for that particular page. Chances are the embedded video is the largest one, and usually it's still downloading when you look. Double click on that file, and it will either begin downloading or open up in a new browser window and begin playing. If it begins playing, copy THAT url into quicktime player or similar and save it from there. I have to rip videos for work all the time and this has a 99% success rate, even on sites that download helpers can't help with. edit: just tested this on a friends facebook page and it does work. It's a pain in the rear end and takes some work on your part, but it works. RaoulDuke12 fucked around with this message at 22:39 on Aug 12, 2011 |

If I can run 3 miles 5 days a week regularly, should I reasonably be able to walk 20 miles?
|
# ? Aug 13, 2011 00:09 |

Of course you could. Physically I'd bet just about anyone could walk 20 miles, even some of the larger fatties could do it I bet. (even here in the US) It's the mental "Why?" and boredom of doing it that would stop 99% of anyone who tried. (Now if it's 100F+ outside like it hasn't been here for only a couple days, that's another story) edit: and if you're serious, I used to run, not as much as you 2-3miles 2-3 times a week and I walked 10 miles once when I couldn't get a ride to drop my car off at body shop, it was nothing at all but boring. The stress on your body from only 3 miles of running equals probably many times that distance walking. Vin BioEthanol fucked around with this message at 00:25 on Aug 13, 2011 |

If you can walk, you can walk twenty miles. The only question is how long it's going to take.

Oh god, bear with me. I want to make View-Master reels. While I need to learn all the gently caress about stereoscopic photography, at this stage I'm more concerned with getting from a digital file to a useable tranparency. 1) Is it possible to get digital photos converted to slide format but not cut/mounted individually, so you are left with a long strip of whatever you call a photographic negative when it's in proper colour? 2) Assuming 1 and knowing that the height of a View-Master reel window is 10.5mm, I should be able to (via photoshop) join two images together so the final size of each is 10.5mm x 15mm and still have it fit with the 36x24mm "exposure" on the printed film, right? 3) Does anyone know anything about DIY View-Master poo poo that doesn't involve the black box of sending away jpgs and getting the final product back hundreds of dollars later, or trawling eBay for 1950's tech? Is there a term for the vague aching and associated wincing in a particular part of the body when seeing or reading about a injury or pain in the same area? The most obvious example would be wincing and crossing your legs when you see someone else take a shot to the nuts. But I also feel, for example, a vague unpleasant sensation in my wrists when reading the wiki on carpal tunnel, or my back feels strange when reading about back pain and proper posture (I don't actually suffer from any of those things). Or hell, the entire experience of reading the gross injury photos thread elsewhere on SA... Koskinator fucked around with this message at 09:11 on Aug 13, 2011 |

Zewle posted:Should I be worried about blisters or anything (would be wearing the kind of socks usually used for running)? Yes, you should be concerned, somewhat, about blisters. It's a question of distance and of how long your socks are going to be rubbing on your feet-skin; 20 miles is a lot of rubbing. There are a ton of websites on google that offer good advice for avoiding blisters. Hit #1 http://www.thewalkingsite.com/blisters.html Is this going to be a one-off 20-mile-walk, like for a fundraiser, or is this going to be a daily/weekly exercise thing? Just curious.

Yea there are some exceptions as far as reporting incidents like in his scenario the hospital would have to report his injury but like the video says, you are never required to make a statement to the police, only the courts can do that.

This is one for college goons. After toiling away for 1 year at a community college, I decided I want to go to a state college instead. Community is pretty soulless, and I would like to go somewhere more prestigious and of course more memorable and happier. There's plenty of nice colleges in this state, but by the time I get into them, i'll most likely be 20. So here's the dumb question: Am I going to miss "the college experience" by that time? I'm under this sort of impression that, by joining late, I'm going to miss some magical party bus by being too old. I'm not exactly sure how to convey the question, but I hope you guys get my I'm asking?

While it is more difficult to make friends as easily and as quickly as you can in a freshman dorm, that doesn't mean you can't make friends. If you're an outgoing-type of person and you look for fun things to do, you will find them. And there's parties regardless of what year you are. In sum, go there looking to make friends and you will. If you're looking for parties, you will find them.

Not at all, especially if you're entering as a sophomore; you'll only be a year ahead of the average age. Even if your credits don't transfer and you enter as a freshman, you're only two years ahead of the average age, and you have an advantage there: a year after that, you'll be able to buy the beer legally. (Not to be a killjoy, though, but if you're going to the state college for the parties, consider how much you're going to be spending in tuition to get access to something that you could get for free by learning to play frisbee and the guitar and then hanging out on campus.)

Zewle posted:Thinking about surprising girlfriend after work before school starts back up, felt like a thing to do. I see. Be aware that average human walking speed is ~2 mph, so you'll be walking for ~10 hours. I'd make sure she's actually gonna be at work that day, so when she exits, there you are, instead of...having walked all day, you show up and she doesn't. Personally I'd just take a taxi or borrow someone's car, because (A) how are you gonna get home again afterwards? and (B) that way if she's not there, or is not as pleased to see you as you'd anticipated, you can just gracefully get back in the car and exit, whereas otherwise you're just kinda standing there on the sidewalk. Are you assuming she's gonna give you a ride home afterwards? If this was a rom-com, yanno, she'd exit having decided to break up with you that afternoon, while you were trudging through a Country Roads Take Me Home montage. Yes, I'm a pessimist, why do you ask?

So I made some nacho cheese dip today for a fantasy football draft, and it didn't get finished. I put in the fridge, and now I have solidified cheese product chilling in a pot.
