Okay, I promise this is the last time I'll ask here, but what's some more music that sounds like Black Moth Super Rainbow? Last.fm just recommends The Octopus Project, Tobacco, and the other projects of the band members like Power Pill Fist, Seven Fields, and Dreamend. I've listened to all of them and Tobacco and the Octopus Project collab sound close enough to what I'm looking for. I've tried Pandora but most of the artists played weren't psychedelic nor as lively rhythmically. Animal Collective came up too, and while they're psychedelic, they're too different texturally (Anco puts a lot more emphasis on vocals). To illustrate what I'm looking for, here are some songs with the characteristics I'm looking for: Melt Me, Sun Lips (a cool video too!) and Rollerdisco.

Cross-posting from the stoner rock thread: Hey all, I've listened to Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss for years (and the Desert Sessions) and just recently have been binging on everything John Garcia has done and I'd like some recommendations for similar stuff. I just listened to Sleep's Holy Mountain for the first time (holy poo poo) and I like it a lot but it's more slow and doomy than I'd like at the moment. I like the spacey desert blues sound of songs like Space Cadet and the overall feel of Welcome to Sky Valley. I'd love to hear any bands/albums that are just as awesome. Thanks.

I'm looking for what I'd best describe as "literary" pop music with post-punk tendencies, along the lines of Felt or The Smiths. Bands heavy on the shimmering/jangling guitar lines, but not as lyrically simplistic as most 80s indie pop (I'm not looking for, like, The Field Mice). It doesn't have to be from the 80s, but definitely music that owes a lot to that period.

I've fallen completely in love with the sound of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L-mmzoKLEE You can fast forward to 1:30 for the specific thing I'm talking about. I'm looking for some pop-punk stuff that's similar to Screeching Weasel and The Queers. When I try to find stuff on last.fm and etc, I get a ton of songs/bands that are pretty okay, but not memorable enough to look up later, and which don't quite scratch that itch.

I need some music where the vocalist do interesting/smart things with the melodies they sing instead of droning on and let the guitars take over. I guess it sort of has to do with overall song structure too. I do like Silver Apples and I plan on checking out Haack's Electric Lucifer. Do you know of any other synth psych from the 60s and 70s? As for Stereolab, they're not bad, but they're too sleek and clean sounding, whereas I'm looking for a dusty, organic sound. For example, I was looking through similar artists on allmusic and found Sinoia Caves which nails that "organic" texture I like. Unfortunately the other songs of theirs I heard were too slow and none of them had an insistent rhythm. liquid courage posted:I'd definitely second a Super Furry Animals recommendation. Try Guerilla, Radiator and Rings Around the World. Also, Dark Days, Light Years is worth a shot as well. As for Beta Band, the Three EPs compilation is pretty solid. Thanks for reminding me of Super Furry Animals. I've heard Radiator but I haven't listened to it in a long time. Is the similarity you hear the bouncy psychedelicness or do they they use keyboards/synths more in later albums? I also listened to some Beta Band songs but I'm not sure what the connection is. slowdave posted:Solar Bears seem pretty close, but I listened to some other songs of theirs and none of them seem to have the kind of propulsive rhythm BMSR songs have. I had the same issue with the other artists you posted, they're just too chilled out. Except VHS Head, I liked that even though it wasn't quite what I was looking for. What genre could be considered close to dubstep, without the dub? Like, take this song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTRjIdoblAA&feature=channel_video_title I rather like it, but I'm not crazy about the dub segments (like up till "call 9-1-1" segment is great) One friend suggested electro-house, where would I start with that stuff?

Oxyclean posted:What genre could be considered close to dubstep, without the dub? "Dub" generally means instrumental remix, or sometimes a specific style of Jamaican music (which consists of instrumental remixes of reggae songs). Your request makes no sense in either context. Assuming you just want "dirty" and "facemelting" "wobbles", there's no shortage of Skrillex, Borgore, 16Bit or King Cannibal tunes or imitators on Youtube. e: or did I understand your post the exact opposite way that you meant it? That you actually want the stuff other than the inane noise of the hook? Ironically, in that case what you want is, uhh, dub. Like, artists vastly superior to Skrillex who make similar music to the intro of that tune would include King Midas Sound, Rhythm & Sound, Mongo's HiFi, Kode9, Coki, and a million others. Just take a look at the UK bass thread. But seriously, your post was positively baffling. Ras Het fucked around with this message at 01:57 on Aug 17, 2011 |

Evidently I am not good at music. What I like is the segment (of the song in my previous post) from 0:00 - 1:02, I don't like the stuff from 1:03-1:49ish, I guess the base drop/facemelty stuff? Another example of what I'm talking about is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnwfTHpnGLY&ob=av2e Up till about 4:10. I need some funk, stat. Hip-hop and R&B works, too. The less autotune the better. Stuff I dig: James Brown (got basically everything already) Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters (ditto) Tower of Power (Self-titled and Drop it in the Slot are pretty good, some of the other stuff I checked out was pretty lame and/or weird.) The Roots Everything was good or great. Kanye & Jay-Z Most of this is awesome. I didn't really get 808's and Heartbreaks but I'll give it some more time Common Be is a great album. A Tribe Called Quest Outkast Mos Def Black on Both Sides A+ Black Star A The Ecstatic B- Beastie Boys Only a couple albums--Licensed to Ill I hated. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg G Funk owns. My brother keeps telling me I need to make my funk the p funk. What Parliament album should I start with? I'm looking for more soulful poo poo than not (more James Brown than Weather Report, I'm not sure I get fusion.) It's a wide world out there which way do I go next?
