Group A and Group N were a worldwide and multi disciple formula so you could conceiveably run the same car on circuit and next week on gravel. At one point that was actually the case too, so for instance the original M3 would feature at the Manx, then at Hockemiem and then in Wales, basically all the same car and running much of what you had on the road car. astropika posted:Homologation versions aren't that close to the rally car, no anti-lag and usually tuned to half the HP or under (not that that is much of an impediment). Not true, esp in the Group A days and still the case in Group N - if anything the road car is quicker than the Group N version. EVO's even had antilag systems ready to be plugged in.

Yeah, but we were talking about AWD turbo fiestas and focuses, it would never ever be possible for ford to build them for a price people would pay (and losing money on every car isn't so popular at the moment, unless you are bugatti). edit: and thus WRC homologation would just mean manufacturers pulling out. astropika fucked around with this message at 14:24 on Aug 18, 2011 |

If anything I think it would make road cars (and bikes) better for the consumer since the mental race-ready poo poo can be confined to the 500-or-whatever models for homologation. Plus, the only true homologation special left on the roads these days is the 1198R and only having Ducati racers left is just boring. I wants me a modern R7, ZXR750R et al dammit.

I mean, with Mitsubishi kinda-sorta shitcanning the Evo XI (or at least making some sort of weird electric/diesel/whatchamacallit hybrid instead of an AWD turbo 4-cylinder), the only WRC homologation car left is the Subaru Impreza WRX and Subaru isn't even officially in the WRC anymore. I want every manufacturer to offer at least one of their sedans or hatchbacks in a fire-breathing AWD turbo-charged WRC-alike performance trim. Is that really too much to ask?

The WRC Fiesta is limited by S2000+ rules to have a factory (transverse) motor orientation, right? In any case, it is. I'm sure they do tons of packaging changes that could never work in a production car, just for the engine itself. I think Block's old gymkhana car was longitudinal, but the new one in the 4th video is transverse again.

But everything I read online said they had postponed/cancelled it on Friday. They also aren't showing the Senna documentary anywhere in Austin, which doesn't make any sense. Anyways I think it could have been a good opportunity to get people out there and check out a actual F1 car. Which most Americans have probably never seen in person.

I had that happen with an empty trailer outside my window. The eventual solution? Get a huge loving forklift to bend the trailer "straight" and he drove off.

JEREMY CLARKSON HATES ARE FREEDOM (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8098450185420129625 Jeremy Clarkson sure does not like America. Still love the dude. And also, he's pretty much right. I mean, sure, all of our cars have way too big and way too inefficient engines, weigh several tons too much, are huge, don't handle at all... And all of our cars fall apart almost instantly. And all of our motor sports involve a circle or oval. And the Z06 Corvette and 2011 Mustang and Charger are so common they don't even grab my attention anymore... Anyway, what was my point? Seriously though, I was trying to think of a contemporary American car that's actually the least bit interesting. I came up with: 1. Dodge Viper (of course) 2. Some stuff Jeep makes seems fun 3. Ford GT 4. Some Saleen Stuff and some Shelby and Roush stuff, I guess and that's literally all I could come up with.

As much as I love Jeremy Clarkson, I can't stand it when he rips on muscle cars. Yeah, muscle cars will never compare if you look at cars strictly from a numerical perspective. But what's so wrong with driving a car because it's "fun" to drive? Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcrFdCcZKGg He's driving a Shelby Cobra on the Tail of the Dragon. Yeah, he's not going quickly. Yeah, he's getting walked by that Suburu in front of him in places. But the sound of that motor(It's like it's saying DOOOOOM every time he plays with the throttle) Just makes it fun. I tried to find that video of the vintage Chevy Nova going around the Nurbrugring as a better example, but I couldn't find it. Or is it in this thread already? EDIT: Ford Fairlane that's why it was so hard to find. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD48OX1wu14 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WRgybAyc6Y 2 parter! Listen to that engine. Driving it through a car wash would feel like a near death experience. Absolutely fantastic! Marauder Stig fucked around with this message at 19:13 on Aug 23, 2011 |
