Oooh! Oooh! Recapitalize private prisons so there's no incentive to increase prison population! All good, these are all good suggestions.

Anyways, what exactly is the dependency here? 42 million unemployable people - Unemployed != unemployable 2 million people in over 243 prisons - You can thank conservative policies that promote locking people up for extremely long periods of time instead of fixing the root causes of crimes for that one. 535 idiots in the U.S. House and Senate - Who you elected, and account for almost nothing of your tax dollars... The unemployed part is the worst. UI is paid into by employers at actuarily fair rates. I like the "Latino insects" part; apparently the author just couldn't repress that anger enough to write "grasshopper" again. The story also once again shows the conservative mindset that we're all just individuals who put up with one another. If only everyone just took care of themselves we would be fine! I just don't understand how they can fail to see how interconnected we all are. I could claim that I make a good salary and benefits because I worked hard and got a Master's in Computer Engineering. Which is partially true, and we can ignore for now the millions of other people my age, both white and brown, who never even had a chance to do with their life what I've done with mine. After all they should have just bootstrapped it harder! Anyways, the only reason I can be paid the salary I am is because of the millions of customers that buy the products I work on. Many of whom are other businesses who use my products to make money by providing goods and services to other Americans, including dirty, poor, lazy, brown ones. Businesses which would not be able to exist if those people couldn't pay for their services, or there weren't enough educated workers, or there wasn't a transportation, power, water, and internet infrastructure that make their business possible. We left self-sufficient farming behind thousands of years ago because it sucked and we were all better off working together. Of course I don't think we've ever been truly self-sufficient. Even as hunter/gatherers we relied on one another. Or maybe it's just thousands of years of socialist propaganda.

I just saw that one about "suicide call center hur hur" on Facebook yesterday, and called one of my friends on it. Don't have time to print/alter the whole thing, but here's how that played out: After my friend (L) posts it as her status, one of her friends posts equivilant of "hur hur how funny." I post back: "Also, racist! Really? L, all Pakistanis are not terrorists. Not even the majority of them." She posts: "Yes, I'm well aware of that. Whoever made it up picked that country for whatever reason they had, but do not accuse me of being racist. It's called a joke. lol [friend who thought it was funny], I saw it on another friends' status and laughed out loud so i wanted to share haha" I post: "Just because you joke about it doesn't mean that it's okay to be racist. Sorry, but I call it as I see it. Just because someone else made it doesn't mean it's right to repeat something racist, either." Her friends then post a bunch of stuff about how I can't take a joke and I'm just a big meanie. She thanks them all and now I look like a Grade A Bitch. Oh well.

Any real solution is not going to 100% favor Israel. And if you don't 100% favor Israel, you hate Jews. Even if you're trying to save Jewish lives and promote peace in Israel. Of course it doesn't help that conservative Christians view the conflict over Israel as critical to the return of Jesus. So ummm.... hooray needless human suffering!

You could point out that "We've been attacked/We'll be attacked/etc" has been the excuse used by governments for conquer and imperialism since Alexander and before. You could point that out. It'd be ineffective. But you could. I got into a debate with a fellow far-leftian who is Jewish and she said that whenever anyone attacks Israel (as a state), she feels attacked as a Jew and that it's anti-semetic. I got her to admit that that feeling is completely irrational and entirely emotionally based. I also got her to admit that she needs to separate those feelings. She said she couldn't but that she would try to in the future. But she's also a leftist which means she tends to realize that gut emotion isn't valid rationalization for a political stance. Conservatives have no problem straight up saying "It may be wrong but it's how I feel in my gut so that's what I believe." JerkyBunion fucked around with this message at 23:33 on Aug 20, 2011 |

The problem is that anti-zionism and anti-semitism are so interlinked nowadays it's hard to get people to recognize the difference. The moment any politician in the US (or anyone really) mentions anything about Israel perhaps being in the wrong they are tarred and feathered as anti-semetic. Tread lightly. It doesn't help people have an extremely poor grasp on history and don't realize that Israel has been slowly creeping up and taking lands away. You don't hear about the King David bombing or anything like that, all you hear is that ISRAEL IS UNDER ATTACK BY A-RABS but never the other side of the story. Palestinians are otherized into terrorists and whatever pathetic attack the resistance puts up is crushed and retaliated against tenfold.
