Round One, Match Twenty-Seven Match Twenty-Seven, Lord Uthar Langford Zybourne (ZeeToo) vs. Elizabeth Bennet (Dirty Frank) Lord Uthar Langford Zybourne, troll, wears some simple copper mail and wields a copper pick. Elizabeth Bennet the goblin shows up with a steel battle axe and nothing else. She'll need to hit hard and early, as attrition favors her massive opponent. The contest is underway! Elizabeth bursts out of her corner with great speed as Lord Uthar lumbers forward. They meet center-arena, advantage Elizabeth. The goblin swings her steel axe- and hamstrings Lord Uthar! The troll collapses with a wild roar! Now the two are on "equal" footing. They exchange a flurry of parried strikes, then Elizabeth lands a second hit on Lord Uthar's wounded leg, cutting through the limb completely! She aims her next strike at the troll's belly- Lord Uthar convulses in pain, swinging his comically small pick wildly. But Elizabeth has this. She opens several new wounds on her opponent, then lands a particularly heavy blow upon the troll's gaping midsection, bisecting Lord Uthar fully! Elizabeth Bennet is victorious! Combat Log

Many battles are decided by that first lucky hit. The moment the troll fell to the ground, he was dead, being unable to use his size against the smaller creature.

Round One, Match Twenty-Eight Match Twenty-Eight, Mazandaran (NightShroud) vs. roctavian (muskrat84) Mazandaran the tigerman is armed with a copper whip and oakwood shield. He wears leathers and a copper helm, though he chooses to leave his hands exposed. Roctavian the serpent man wields a silver war hammer and oakwood shield. A bronze helm and bronze mail shirt complete his load-out. Roctavian will be hard-pressed to defeat his much-larger opponent with a bashing weapon- can he pull it off? The warriors move forward, roctavian slithering for his life and Mazandaran marching as quickly as his significant, muscular bulk allows. Roctavian takes the first swing, landing his hammer upon Mazandaran's tree-like leg. The blow deals a solid bruise, but does not impress Mazandaran in the least. The tigerman charges, lashing out with his copper whip. But at the last second, roctavian throws himself to the side, avoiding the onrushing tigerman completely! Now, roctavian propels his spring-like, serpentine body upward as far as he can go, then brings down his weighty silver hammer with every ounce of his coiled strength, striking Mazandaran upon the back of his head! The great tigerman's half-inch thick skull gives way before roctavian's might, and he falls flat on his face, never having so much as suspected that the killing blow was coming! Combat Log Having seen the equipment and skills for this one, I would have given roctavian maybe a 1 in 8 chance of winning, if that. I can't believe he pulled it off!

Round One, Match Twenty-Nine Match Twenty-Nine, Richard Parker (SonicBoom) vs. Schrödinger (Anticheese) Richard Parker the tigerman holds a huge bronze pike in one hand and an oaken shield in the other. He is armored in a copper helm, breast plate, and greaves, and wears some leather gloves as well. Schrödinger, also a tigerman, duplicates the oversized weapon in one hand and shield in the other technique of his opponent- he wields both an iron two-handed sword and a copper shield. He also wears a copper breast plate, oaken helm, and leather high boots. Whoever wins this one, it's going to be extremely ugly! The great half-man warriors advance and engage! Massive sword and pike cut through the air, landing against shield and stone floor. The warriors spend a great deal of time circling one another, then fight in quick spurts, neither quite able to take an advantage. Suddenly, Schrödinger aims a thrust of his mighty sword as his opponent's paw (foot). The mighty weapon cleaves through the unprotected extremity with ease, and Richard Parker slams to the floor! Even as he falls, though, Richard thrusts his pike upward- only to be met by Schrödinger frantic parry! Schrödinger whips his sword through the air in a frenzy, hacking wildly at his vulnerable opponent. Richard parries, blocks, and scrambles across the ground, avoiding blow after blow with precision born of desperation. Then a swing nicks his remaining paw, and another cuts open his hand. Still Richard fights on Finally, Schrödinger jams his huge sword through his opponent's chest in one clean motion, lodging the weapon between ribs. Schrödinger pulls his weapon free and immediately hacks off poor Richard's remaining paw. The prone tigerman, understanding that he is beaten, slumps into unconsciousness. His skull is immediately crushed by Schrödinger next blow, and the swordsman advances over the spearman! Combat Log

Round One, Match Thirty Match Thirty, Tigharry (Eastbound Spider) vs. Brock Phantom (Veryslightlymad) Tigharry the tigerman is armored with copper mail, leather boots, oak wood helm, and ...platinum gauntlets. He is unarmed. The opponent, a troll by the name of Brock Phantom, holds a massive copper maul in one beastly hand and a large oak shield in the other. Can an unarmed tigerman brawler possibly hope to take down a troll armed with one hell of a club? The gladiators are in position. Let's get things underway! Both warriors come out of their corners at a solid pace, Tigharry a step ahead of his opponent. But as they come into contact, Brock Phantom somehow puts on a burst of speed and makes the first move, swinging his behemoth maul with great force while charging forward! The strike crushes Tigharry's foot beyond recognition, and the tigerman is simultaneously bowled over and hits the ground with stunning force. Brock Phantom pounds Tigharry's defenseless body with his maul, then rips off one of the half-man's fingers with his own impressive nails! A second hit thuds against Tigharry's torso, then a heavy blow lands upon his arm! But the tigerman isn't done quite yet! Ignoring any pain, he swipes at Brock's leg with his inch-long claws from the ground, rending muscle! Brock is unmoved, and simply keeps swinging his maul. He lands a glancing blow on Tigharry's paw, then, with a sickening crunch, his maul caves in Tigharry's skull, lodging in the pithy remnants. Brock Phantom pulls his weapon free, lifts it high above his head and roars, victorious. Combat Log

Round One, Match Thirty-One Match Thirty-One, Vennominaga (AmadeusVonBlastoise) vs. Ben Mattock (Orv) Vennominaga, serpent woman, is clad in light leather armor and unarmed- it looks like she'll be depending on her fangs and fists for this one. Ben Mattock the minotaur, on the other hand, brought with him a massive iron maul. He also wears leather armor and leather high boots. It seems that Vennominaga's only real hope here is to bite Ben Mattock on his exposed arms. Let's see how this goes for her. The match begins. Vennominaga slightly outpaces her foe, and lands the first strike- biting down on Ben Mattock's leather armor and failing to penetrate to the chest. The minotaur simply charges forward, smashing through Vennominaga and smashing the arena floor with an errant strike of his maul. Ben Mattock swings his maul at his downed opponent, but the serpent woman slithers out of the way and is shortly back upright. Ben Mattock advances and charges again, knocking Vennominaga to the ground with great force. Stunned, the serpent woman can no longer escape from the minotaur's onslaught. He rips off her thumb with one hand, then brings down his maul with the other, obliterating Vennominaga's entire head. Ben Mattock is victorious, thanks in no small part to his leather armor. I was really counting on facing someone eschewing armor for more killing power. At least this Serpent (wo)man didn't try to wrestle the opponent's pinky toe. Edit: Wow, combat log says I bit him so hard I bruised his heart.

Well, I was kind of worried about both serpent men, scourges and having his feet (hooves?) cut off, so I think it's just poor luck that she tried to bite his chest instead of something else. Which uh, is quite a way to unhinge ones jaws, so I guess she had that going for her. Still, happy to win my first ever fight in the arena.

My idea for Roctavian was an emphasis on dodging and opportunity attacks, and making sure I can bite unarmored people and warham' on armored ones. I'm glad I lucked out! I hope the fact that I haven't been betting at all won't put me behind in the next round, though.
