If anyone wants to make a homemade reflector, Target (and probably other department stores) sells tri-fold cardboard displays for middle school type projects. I saw it and the idea hit me. I laid down tinfoil and *gorilla taped that poo poo down. I even made the handles out of *gorilla tape. I can't wait to try it out. cost: 4 dollars. * If you haven't heard of gorilla tape, it makes duct tape look like fried bologna. Awesome, awesome stuff. edit: breakin tables like it's goddamn monday night raw. so so sorry, i forgot how big the cell phone camera pics are.

Just wanted to post my frustration about trying to find used stuff on the internet here in Taiwan. Saw a guy selling "Darkroom stuff" and he went on to list "changing bag, developing tank, and chemicals". Of course I wanted to know what he has because I could only find a 1 reel steel tank for 35mm, and HC110 for developing, so I emailed him. I said "Could you give me a list of the darkroom items you are selling?" He emailed me back "A changing bag, developing tank, and chemicals" and hasn't replied to me since then grrrr. The 2nd guy listed a crap zoom lens, I forgot the range, and a "Nikon film body". I thought the price was pretty decent depending on what body he might have, so I emailed him to check it out, and he emails me back "Oh I am not sure, just some Nikon camera"...... It is hard enough finding used gear over here, and then I have to deal with this, sometimes I miss living in the states

I was idly procrastinating today, and stumbled across a blog discussing street photography. Mention was made of avoiding this in France and Quebec. WTF? says I, and a bit of googling reveals this 6-year-old article. Seems a Montreal photographer was sued, successfully, for a picture he took in public in Montreal. I couldn't find much in the way of follow-up - the photographer in question, Gilbert Duclos, made a documentary about it, and there appears to have been a little bit of activity a few years ago, but nothing too recently. As far as I can tell, the law hasn't changed, but there haven't been any other legal cases or challenges. I'll be going to a conference in Montreal in April, and I'm planning to do some street photography there. Has anyone else seen anything like this, or had any run-ins with Quebec's weird "distinct society" laws? This isn't the advice thread, so if this generates lots of "do this" type discussion, I'll move it. I'm more curious if other people have heard about Quebec's harsher take on these issues.

I look at a series of his pictures, and I convince myself that every single one of them was staged. Then I read an interview about how he explores areas and is able to get himself in spots where something is happening, and I feel completely inadequate. I'll feel lucky if I ever do it once.. and he's made a career out of it.

What would you do here: My coworkers and I travel a ton for work (>95% travel). My company has an annual photo contest for people who travel. The winning photos go in the yearly company calendar. There aren't any other prizes/rewards. To enter, you have to sign over all rights to the company to use in any form they desire, mostly recruiting material. You can enter up to 5 photos and based on last year's calender, all 5 of mine are likely to be chosen. I can't decide whether I want to enter the contest and display my photographic dominance over my peers or hold out on ethical grounds (this is a big company, they can afford to pay people for photos used in recruiting material). What should I do? e: I guess this is technically advice but I think it fits the spirit of this thread the best.

What should I do? Sign over all rights for free? That's ridiculous, don't do it. If it was a company calendar and there was no prize but they didn't demand that, it would be fine. But you're giving away your property so a company can make money off of it. Don't do it.

There's even companies out there that will print a one-off calendar using photos you submit for under $20! So they'll be all "woah that looks professional, you must have a great printer" and you'll be the envy of the office.
