I read that Cali just passed a state law restricting exhaust noise to 80 dB...Which is exactly what the federal law's dB level is. Completely pointless, unless you're a politician trying to pad your resume before an election.

Those who have done a night run down the Tail of the Dragon (or any mountain riding) know how loving DARK it is up there! No lights, no bleed from a city surrounding you and your bike outruns the headlights on every curve. There were some guys in some cool little import cars that come up there just to ride at night! They all had extra lighting, aimed at almost a 45 degree angle on each side of the car. This let them see the sharp curves even when the headlights were pointing into the trees. Well, I decided my cool 7" headlight sucked big donkey dicks in the hills and vowed to change that. Here is my old headlight setup for reference: ( I know, I know... STGATT, but I have a mesh/armored jacket now so skip it, eh? ) And the new setup The lower lights are set up with wingnuts and lockwashers and can spin almost 90 degrees. I have one set hooked to my standard lights, the other to my highbeams for now (County inspection coming up) but for the mountains I am going to run the extras on a separate switch so I can have both sets on at once.

I've never had mine measured, but it's probably too loud. I've never had any trouble, but I tend to keep it down whenever I'm in towns etc.. Plus, the PO who fitted the pipe is a cop Well' since we live in the same country, I can contribute a bit about this. There's no exact dB limit for older bikes. 80 dB is the limit for new imported bikes, but fitting louder exhaust systems is perfectly legal. It's not regulated the way you think it is. There's also exceptions. Some new (06-10) Kawasakis and a few Suzukis were accepted with a max noise/music pressure exceeding 95 dB. ZX10R is the worst/best new bike at about 100dB - that's almost the double of 95. My own GT750 with a Figarolli 3-1 is ridiculously loud. About 117 dB 1 meter from the exhaust at 8000 rpm. I can't ride it without earplugs. If I park it amongst other bikes, I'm used to set off a fistful of alarms. I've almost blown a helmet of a MC cop without getting a ticket for that, and it's been inspected several times by the state without remarks. None of my pals want to ride with me, if I'm on that bike due to tinnitus, but it's apparently street legal. Regarding your pot: You totally beat anything I've ever owned with dB per Hp. Jesus loving Christ. Your imbalanced engine characteristics at low and mid rpm is caused by this too. It's a lovely pot. Get an OEM. I totally understand that your neighbors occasionally piss on it.

Even on the straight sections I had to take it very easy to not outrun my headlights. Good news was by the time I was headed home ~midnight the moon was bring enough I could see pretty good. Yeah, the last thing we want is leaning it out. .220 main jets should be enough to maintain the delicious backfires though. Hmmm, I actually think I have a block of Mikuni 45mm SUs somewhere.

I tried slowing down a little then accelerating away a couple of times (often works), but she didn't get the hint. She took the exit before mine and yelled "loving oval office" on her way past . If I'd had a video camera or something I'd probably have taken the footage to a cop shop and seen if they felt like fining someone. In fact, its enough to temp me to get a little one 'specially...

A camera is never a bad idea, but more for showing your friends idiots on the road, and having your back on accidents. Cops will give no gently caress. I usually deal with tailgaters by turning around and glaring at them, sometimes giving a "what the gently caress?" hand gesture. Seems to work without much tomfoolery.
