Finding out where the edge of the razor is, turning to face the darkness and revving his 690 into it's vast gaze. You gotta live this to learn it bro.

Allow me to offer you official vintage KTM sliders at the low, low price of $90 each. That's $90 per each individual part, so the total will be $450 for 2 bolts, one center rod, and 2 pucks.

However because I'm such a good guy, I'll offer you a 12% discount off of that price. Shipping and handling, plus insurance, will be 11.9% so we'll say a total of $449.99 (rounding up).

These sliders are both vintage, and gently worn, to give you street cred so you don't have to worry about dropping your own bike. Also they will get you all the hipster chicks.

It sucks you're selling it but I understand about the difficulty of not riding like a dong on one. I've been doing my best not to but my resolve is slipping. I don't even break laws on my bicycle any more as it started to started to subconsciously bleed into the tard riding. Jumping a flight of stairs into a pedestrian shopping plaza is pushing it on a bike, I imagine I would get busted fast if I did it on the DRZ.

I hear you on the riding like a dong thing. That, along with a few other things, lead me to sell the ZX6R a few days ago.

The 690 certainly is a ticket machine. Every time I check my mirror I'm half expecting red and blue, especially after taking it out for a few track days. The street is so risky/boring.

I did my first supermoto track day with spiffness last weekend, what a blast. I've never imagined such lean angles before. The 690 is great, all that power is unnecessary but enjoyable; comparable to a liter bike on a road course, as spiffness put it. I'm running the enduro model, and I've finally got my front fork damping figured out which reduced front wheel chatter big time. I have having a blast until...

I rode Zool's husqvarna 450. What a machine, its one goal is to drag peg. The lower weight and slicks make the bike shine. And the power/gearing is ideal. Supermoto is incredible! God my body is still sore, it's intense riding.

I haven't been around too much since I sold my 625 but I'd like to point out that I somehow survived ~8 months of KTM ownership, 8,000 miles, with no tickets and at least one wheelie in a crowded area per ride. Usually a wheelie per stoplight.

I did lowside it in some snow once.

In a year and a half I actually never got a ticket on my 690. I got pulled over a few times, always with a warning and a long conversation about what bike I was riding. I had a cop give me the universal sign for 'do a wheelie!' when I rode past him having pulled someone else over, twice I got waved through construction zones around the stopped traffic by the sign folks, I put almost 9k miles on the rear wheel of that bike, front mileage unknown.

On the way to work this morning my DRZ400SM quit randomly.. And it wouldn't start back up.

I ended up having it towed to a local shop but my brother in law intercepted. He was able to start it up... I was at work by this point, my wife was good enough to escort the bike.

Anyways, I'd like to avoid sending it into the shop as they aren't that great of a shop and I doubt many DRZ400's come through there.

Bro' said that the engine sounds asthmatic, but isn't sure if that's what it should regularly sound like.

I know very little about the mechanics but I'm guessing something might be wrong with the air intake? Maybe the tow ride sort of jiggled something loose so it could breath again?

Any ideas on what I should check/replace first? I've noticed the bike gets somewhat worse mileage than most people report for the same bike. Also it always kinda felt a little underpowered.

The bike is almost completely stock and only modifications are removing the DMV emissions thing, and a better battery.. I don't think it's an electrical issue though as it sounded like it was trying to startup properly, but it just wouldn't... go...

I guess it's running for now but I don't want this poo poo happening again as it's a huge pain in the rear end considering I commute every day.

When was the last time you cleaned you air filter? I would check all those hose connections etc. Try a couple things first, check your filter, try running it without the airbox cover on and report back.

Describe the "DMV emissions thing" that you removed. You generally cant just pull that stuff without affecting the bike.

Previous owner cleaned it shortly before I bought it. I tried starting it up without the airbox cover on, however now that it runs I'll see.. All the hoses and stuff looked connected when it shut down.

I didn't actually remove it, the previous owner did.. I have it in a bag at home. It's specific to bikes in California apparently...

I believe he followed these instructions: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-382414.html

It's a Smog Canister, they come on the bike in California.

I was just thumbing through my service manual when I noticed that is says that stock DRZ-400SMs don't require turning the fuel petcock off because they're vacuum-fed. Mine has the FCR 39mm carb. Does anyone know if it's the same? It's not a big deal, I'm just curious - I've always used the shutoff whenever I'm done riding before.

Depends on if you're running the stock petcock or not. If your petcock even has an "OFF" setting then it isn't stock and you definitely should be turning it off.

Oh you're right. It looks way different from the one in the manual and it doesn't have a reserve selection.

Hey FedEx, how dare you deliver something before your "delivered by" time.
Well, it is a near 20 year old 2-stroke woods bike that you may be able to ride on the road. It'll be another 800+ to get the wheels and such necessary for the street. Maybe more if you need horn / turn signals, etc.

I think it'd be a blast and maybe neat to track it if you regear it but if you're looking for a daily driver you shouldn't pick this up. Needing to pre-mix the gas is going to add a fair bit of complication and you'll be doing it often on a big 2T bike.

While it'd be fun, I don't think it's a good option for a streetable bike. 2 Stroke bikes especially do not like being held wide open for long periods - which is what you'll be doing on the highway. You can probably expect failure if you plan on any 80mph sustained highway runs.

EDIT - And if you're looking for a woods bike, 12-1500 will get you a much, much newer bike.

Not a tailbag, but I got a Wolfman Enduro 'tank'bag for my 690 and have been happy with it. It is unobtrusive and big enough to be useful. Not the clearest view of it but you can see it here

Lil updates for my Supermoto DR650 project

Got some new rubbers..

Michelin Pilot Road 2's for the supermoto wheels:

Shinko 244 for the stock wheels so I can still dual sport.

And something to help slow it all down, an EBC 320mm kit for stock wheels (Already have same kit on the Sun Supermotos, so will make the wheel swap a very quick change over)

Currently the Sun Supermoto wheels I have are mounted with Kenda 270 knobbies (Got them this way from the previous owner)

Decided to upgrade the suspension a bit too.

Cogent Rear shock with Eibach Spring

Ricor Fork Valves - Intimidators

Stiffer fork springs

Also picked up a FMF Powerbomb Header, previous owner installed the stock heat shield on it, thinking I may take this off and use some fiberglass exhaust wrap
