I don't think there is any earnest outrage here. It's theater outrage. I like to imagine that we all sit a table in top hats and monocles, discussing modding, and then suddenly another tophatted gentleman walks in, says "Hello chaps, might we be discussing Shojo at this gentleman's club?" At which point we all spit out our tea, drop our plates, and back away in such surprise that our top hats come off. Then a few people point and shout "How dare you?!?" and that's that.

That's the joy of modding. Doing your own thing, that is, even if it's kind of weird (or really weird). Although the rage against how the Nexus deals with it isn't entirely unjustified. Smug bastards.

Strudel Man, how difficult would it be to port your Signature Weapon mod to Fallout 3? I got the urge to go back to DC and I really miss your mod. I've done basic porting before, so I was really just wondering if anything would conflict (I assume DT-related effects will need to be changed). Is there anything specific that NVSE provides that FOSE doesn't that is needed for your mod?

Not that I'm aware of - but I had some trouble half-heartedly trying to port it earlier, when someone inquired about it via PM. I guess it's harder going from New Vegas to FO3 than it is to do the reverse, since the NV engine is FO3 + various new features.

If you can port it successfully...well, I wish you the best of luck.

You'd have to make an esp with PN and your other mod as masters, and then attach whatever flag/script/effect/whatever PN puts on helmets to the ones from your other mod. I think the visor effect and overlays are separate though? I haven't looked inside PN core before. And then you can remove 'master' from PN and your other mod (but don't load your patch esp into the geck after that or it will lose the non-esm masters and get broken).

I thought the NV one was tacky because its lovely looking and lazily made. A scale replica like that though is a pretty impressive feat of modding imo.

If we're gonna have a 9/11 derail, this was by far the worst (best?) 9/11 game mod I saw released this weekend.

So after playing Fallout 3 a while ago, I realized that there are a few things about the feel of the game that I enjoyed that New Vegas seems to be lacking. One of those things is a barber. Yeah, I know, Sergio. But he'll only give you a haircut if you're a member of the Kings. Otherwise he won't even let you engage in conversation. I decided my first mod would be an attempt to change this by adding a barber shop to Goodsprings. So far, I've physically designed my barber and made the exterior to the shop.

As far as I'm aware, this mod shouldn't cause any conflicts with existing ones as I've never heard of a mod replacing completely wrecked buildings with good ones. Specifically, this one replaces a burnt out frame at the edge of a dead end road on the outskirts of Goodsprings.

At any rate, I hope to have this finished in the next couple of days. Maybe tonight if I really work my rear end off on it, but I doubt with my level of experience that'll be the case.

^^^What will the barber contribute in the fight against the Powder Gangers?

There's a lot of nice touches in Fallout 3 I miss. Those radio towers where you had to hunt down the source of the signal to find a nice cache of stuff were really cool.

Strudel Man, I'm gonna go ahead and make the attempt to port Signature Weapons to Fallout 3, and most of the scripts are coming up without any errors, except one.

code:
ShowMessage SignatureWeaponStats SignatureWeaponQuest.level SignatureWeaponQuest.wepkills SignatureWeaponQuest.killstolevel SignatureWeaponQuest.XPToLevel
Line 68 in SignatureWeaponSettingsScript

This is coming up as a Syntax error, "reference not allowed in this context." Any idea what I'm missing?

You know, despite blindly adding him to the GoodspringsMilitia faction because all the other named NPCs in town also had it, I never really considered this. As a character I was thinking that he's a retired ranger, so I dunno, maybe just more firepower or something? The problem there being that it stands to imbalance the gameplay if he dies and the player picks up some big deathspitter that they shouldn't have yet.

If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Now that the idea's actually come up, I'll probably go for it once the major stuff is out of the way.

EDIT: I could always go the cheap route and make an NPC-only version of some fairly strong weapon and give it to him, thus precluding the possibility of the player running off with it.

Morrowind and Oblivion both had major city overhauls, did nothing like Better Cities ever happen for FO3? The trouble with editing cities is it's real easy for multiple mods to overlap.

That would be sweet, considering most of the player homes I've seen that do the things I'd like them to do (Sorting, ease of storage, crafting) do that in the most inaccessible impractical fashion imaginable. For instance, the Underwater Player Home, and Underground one both require you to fuel some sort of stupid generator in order to use the home for basic storage, and on top of that their all super godlike underground mansions as mentioned in the OP, ha.

But yeah, Omnicaris' Player Home is one of the better ones I've seen produced so far, mind you I've only really looked at three.

Does anybody know which modification for weapon mods adds the word "MOD: WEAPON MOD HERE" as an item title? I know WME adds solid titles such rear end "9mm Silencer", but I can't figure out what's adding the latter phrasing, maybe vanilla? It's not too annoying, but so far I assume it's PN, also I can't apply any of the weapon mods with the prefix "MOD: ".

Yeah, I was literally shocked when I searched the Nexus for a barber and found only three mods, two of which even did what I was looking for... and both of them were just machines sitting in one of the player houses in the game. There's no character in that.

Anyways, progress has been pretty good. Sam Larson (the barber's name) has been fully created, the exterior is finished and the interior is pretty close to finished. All I have to figure out how to do is how to work both kinds of doors. I need the main door to take you back and forth between Goodsprings and the barber shop, which I think I know how to do, but there's a small room in the back where Sam will hopefully be sleeping and I wanted to have that have a regular open/close door. I have no idea how to do that though.

This is a possibility! I'd just need to figure out how to, you know, make it work. I am literally flying blind through GECK and learning by working with it since the official GECK wiki is all about Fallout 3 and is pretty well incomplete.
