I've been liking vocal harmony-intensive indie rock lately, but I don't know poo poo about indie rock. Some examples: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Providence/2N87Pe?src=5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjecYugTbIQ Who else has this kind of sound?

I like the late sixties, and early-mid 70's Motown/Stax singles that tend to get a lot of radio play, and I'd like to go deeper in that era, but I don't really know where to look/what to start with, album and artist-wise. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? Just get the Hitsville USA Motown singles comp, it's four discs and covers '59 to '71. If you love it, then there's the complete singles collection, which is like 50 CDs... The same probably applies to Stax, but I'm less familiar with their discog.

Any suggestions? If you can track it down, The Complete Stax-Volt Singles 1959 - 1968 is amazing. http://www.amazon.com/Stax-Volt-Complete-Singles-Various-Artists/dp/B000002IQU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1315796153&sr=8-2 It's $75, but it has pretty much every Stax song you'll need. It was recommended to me earlier in the thread, and I don't regret it one bit. EDIT: If you want to start with just one artist though (and don't want to blow $75) here's a few great albums by Stax-Volt artists: Otis Redding - Otis Blue / Otis Sings Soul Otis & Carla - King and Queen Booker T. and the MGs - McLemore Avenue / Green Onions Sam & Dave - Soul Men If you only want to get one or two discs, I'd go with Otis Blue and Green Onions. I'm a big fan of Vangelis. I know the guy is pretty unique and was very much ahead of his time, but I was wondering if there are any other people/groups with a similar sound...lots of airy or fat 70's and 80's synths, sweeping arrangements, etc. I've done some poking around and haven't come up with much. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for music similar to the midsection of this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFxIItJuMWk&feature=fvsr and the intro to this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQK86UrPL08. They both have a sort of arabic sound to them, makes me wonder if they influenced by another band with that sound or just by arabic music in general.

Even if it has nothing to do with Arabic music I'm interested either in stuff that sounds similar to it or actual Arabic orchestral music as oppossed to just Oud like Hamza El Din.

This is kind of low brow, but any recommendations on a good way to queue up and listen to a variety of 8-bit era theme and background music without sifting through YouTube? I've got an itch after listening to some Mega Man themes and want to hear more. No specific game genre or anything, just that sound. Is this kind of stuff available on any of the streaming services? I've got access to Pandora (obviously), Spotify, and Napster.

I'm looking for music that's as energetic and confessional as Weezer's Pinkerton, thought I'm a little scared that it is the pinnacle of that kind of music and I'll have to settle for less. The Wren's Meadowlands is pretty loving close though. But yeah, music like that.

I know about BoA as well I'm not really familiar with K pop but maybe Yunha/Younha would be to your liking though she's a bit different more rocky and piano based than Hip Hop style. She's Korean but got popular off in J pop doing songs in Japanese but she then rode that success back in Korea. If you're picky about the language then the album "Good Day For Saying I love You" is in Korean and it's the only album she has on the UK iTunes the US iTunes also has an OST that has a few tracks from her on it.

I'm sure this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it. Also last.fm was useless: Short Change Hero - The Heavy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6eSksEp27U There has to be other music out there that sounds like a man walking into the rainy darkness after revenge-murdering a village. I've tried things like Ennio Morricone and *Shels (Plains of the Purple Buffalo), but it's just not quite what I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm looking for some of the more psychedelicish (I'm not even sure if that's the right word to describe it) music that has some awesome harmonies (not required, but would be nice) as well. Some of the bands that I've found that I've liked are Dr. Dog, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, Fleet Foxes, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Rose Elinor Dougal. I went through some of the indie folk thread as well since I saw that one or two of the bands that I listed were posted in there, but I wasn't able to find much that I liked. Any help would be appreciated . edit: To give some more information, some more bands that I really enjoy are Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Byrds, Os Mutantes, Janis Joplin, etc.
