If you like Lampanelli's schtick, there's not much of that. If you want a gripping Maron deep interview, there's not much of that either. It's mostly about what a wonderful person she is and how her fans love her even when she's insulting whatever ethnic/religious/gender group they belong to. No real surprises, no great insight. Also gets a little annoying when she talks about her background and education and then later you realize she's dumbing down her language as part of a persona.

Well, the members of the Harvard Lampoon would be too numerous to mention here, but you've got folks like Al Franken, Mo Rocca, Conan O'Brien, Mo Rocca, B.J. Novak, Steve Zahn, Donal Logue, John Lithgow... Stretch the comedy definition a bit and you can add a lot of writers.

Sorry, always thought that the "Mo" stood for "more". As for "Girl on Guy" with Aisha Tyler... It tends to depend on the guest. I'll give her credit that she has an amazing voice for a podcast, and her recording setup is well. I tend to like some of the Jesse Thorn podcasts, but when his damned Yorkshire Terriers are yapping in the background it annoys the hell out of me.

I really liked the Aisha Tyler interview with Chris Parnell (Dr. Spaceman from 30 Rock), but that's mainly because I went to the same high school he did and knew him when he came back as a theatre teacher and all that.

I think my favorite female comedy podcast is Jackie Kashian's "The Dork Forest", because it just goes into so many different subjects. Most of her guests are comedians you've never heard of, but instead of comedy they talk about their nerdy obsessions, like paper or punk rock or board games or whatever. Her whole show about performing in the Middle East was incredible, because of the logistics of doing a USO tour and having some creepy soldier/handler keep telling you you're going to get raped in Oman.

I was at the Doug Loves Movies taping in Toronto on Saturday. loving hilarious. It didn't even occur to me that they were here for the Toronto International Film Festival until they started making jokes about it. It's hilarious how the games catch the guests off guard. One of them seemed legitimately pissed off at the beginning that he hadn't had time to listen to the show before-hand and didn't know the rules. He got mocked for awhile by Sean Cullen who is (used to be?) on TV here in Canada a lot, to the Toronto crowd at least the most recognizable face. By the middle of the Leonard Maltin game though he was totally into it and asked if he could be on the show next year for T.I.F.F. After the show me and my friends were inspired to play a long-rear end round of build-a-title. It was $25 for 2 hours but Doug even asked the venue for more time at one point so it was incrementally and quality-wise well worth it.

I wondered when I listened to the podcasts whether he was joking about being stoned a lot of the time, but having seen his eyes from a few feet away maaaaan. That mah-fucka was blazed as poo poo for that show.

Also he joked about how maybe this would be the first time there would be technical difficulties and the podcast wouldn't be posted. It still isn't up, and my tired brain is worrying about it for some reason. I WANNA HEAR THAT BANTER AGAIN!

another edit: Hah, AND I just remembered that Doug seemed slightly creeped out by the fact that one guy had sat front row center and brought a box of cupcakes for him all 3 shows in a row. The guy ended up eating one of them during the show after Doug insisted he had no use for that many cupcakes.

Maybe it's what allows him to be un-self conscious on stage? Like how Doug Stanhope claims he can't do stand-up without being drunk because if he's sober he gets too nervous trying to play to his insecure perception of the audience's expectations. When he's a bit drunk the real him can flow out in the off-the-cuff way his fans love.

Furthermore, weed makes life own.

I still listen to How Did This Get Made? because I love bad movies too much. I prefer it when they have more to say other than how BONKERS the movies was, though.

The Flop House is the pinnacle of bad movie podcasts. The hosts have amazing chemistry (and 2/3 of the primary hosts at this point are writers for the Daily Show, if that's a selling point) and I think it really helps that the show is better structured. They're able to get a lot more specific about the bizarre details and play off them really well.

We Hate Movies is great at times. Jim Belushi, Clint Howard, and Michael Caine are up there with Nicolas Cage for great targets. Yeah, It's That Bad is probably in my 4th place for bad movie podcasts just because it's the least polished of the ones I listen to, but again, I like bad movies enough that sometimes it's still fantastic.

Agreed. I enjoy the podcast overall, but it's far from perfect. For example, it seriously annoys me when they focus on aspects of bad movies that aren't supposed to make sense, or are supposed to be odd...and then act like they were supposed to make sense or not be odd.

For example, the "All About Steve" review focused on how creepy and weird Sandra Bullock's character is. Uh, loving duh? That's clearly what the writers and director were going for. The reason why it's an unbelievably awful movie is because the character, while odd and quirky, was in no ways balanced out by being endearing, charming, or even remotely funny. She's nowhere near a redeemable character. So it's kind of disappointing when the theme of the episode becomes, "This chick is weird! What is the deal with that?", instead of "Holy poo poo the writers went WAY over the top making this chick weird and forgot to make her at all likable."
