At this point I think decent's about the best description I'll get (I'm quite new), but I did put together something very similar to what you want just last night:

This seems weird and fetish-like to me. Why would you want this? If it's to copy what somebody else is doing don't do it. If it's sexual arousal then more power to you.

Why in the world wouldn't it be okay to copy what someone else is doing, or watch an expert to see how they use a tool? DJs are the ones who fetishize their own actions. Do you think a drummer would tell you not to watch videos of other drummers to see how they're doing something?

It's DJing, not spinal surgery. How you turn knobs compared to someone else doesn't matter. I guess to me it's like copying the exact way someone else dresses.

The point isn't that it matters if you turn knobs like someone else, the point is to learn how to use your equipment in new and interesting ways.

The X1 is absolutely not a replacement for the Stealthcontrol - you would use it next to the Stealthcontrol to add more interfaces.

I forgot to mention, I also have a Midi Fighter that I use for controlling my decks. I pretty much only use the stealthcontrol for browsing tracks and loading the decks these days.

Here are a couple videos of the midi fighter. I have a combination of those two mappings.

The stealthcontrol is a nice unit and built like a tank, but its made of steel and weighs a ton and is also taking up a ton of space in my dj bag.

That new mixer looks interesting. I'd just like more info on the crossfader. If it's suitable for scratching (doesn't have to be the greatest crossfader in the world, just good enough for basic/intermediate cuts) then its got my attention.

Hey guys, I got a bit of a mix of a set up. S4 with laptop, plus cdj1000's and djm 800 + audio8 soundcard and x1, altho audio8 came with this gear but not with timecode cd's or software.

What I want to know is if i get an S4 scratch upgrade kit, will this also work seperately with the Audio8? or can I only use the Audio8 with Scratch Pro 2 (Meaning I would need both the upgrade kit and tsp2)

This is so I can use both set ups at home, but also use just a laptop + audio8 outside.

Can you clarify this? What exactly are you trying to do (what is the routing)?

That is a lot of expensive hardware you got there, don't they come with manuals?

From what I've read it sounds like the Audio8 is unnecessary with S4. Why do you have it? For use with your laptop?

Also what "gear" did your audio 8 come with

does this help? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr6lFLMDE7E

Originally I had just a laptop and S4 which comes with Traktor Pro 2 (TP2)

I was looking for one CDJ to hook up to it to practice on but ended up buying a set with 2 CDJ1000's, DJM800, two X1's and an Audio8 (no software or timecode CD's) for fairly cheap.

To use the Pioneer setup with laptop/audio8 I need Traktor Scratch Pro (TSP) which I don't have yet as it didn't come with the second set of gear.

Another setup I can do is connect the CDJ's to the S4, but to use timecode CD's I need S4 Scratch Upgrade Kit. The timecode's won't work with TP2, although you can still use the CDJ's through audio-in with real CD's.

My question is can S4 Scratch Upgrade Kit run the Audio8/pioneer gear, without the S4. So that I don't have to buy TSP just to run the audio8/pioneer setup. Saves me having to buy both S4 Scratch Upgrade and TSP

I want to use the one software to run different setups

If I were you, I would upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro 2, which would allow you to use your Audio 8 as a DVS as well as your S4 complemented with the DVS function of TSP2.

I know this works because I have done it with the exact hardware you have.

gr0g

Sorry I'm not familiar with DVS

So the S4 with run straight off tsp2? Or does it have to go through the audio8?

Furthermore, TRAKTOR's Sample Decks have been expanded with advanced features that allow keylock, FX enable and headphone cueing for each individual Sample Deck slot.

Other notable improvements in this update include:

Optional mixer level headroom can be set in TRAKTOR’s preferences
Optional disabling of samples & loops auto-save in TRAKTOR’s preferences
Improved cueing accuracy of CD timecode
Automatic jog wheel calibration for TRAKTOR KONTROL jog wheels
Various other improvements and performance enhancements

DVS = Digital vinyl system

TSP2 works directly with the S4, you won't need the Audio8.

Works nicely, although the CDJ seems laggy when I spin the turntable, or even move it slowly, is this common or do I just need to calibrate?

The MIDI Fighter is honestly a cool piece that you pay for to have the exclusivity above all else. At the end of the day it is a utility controller. You can do anything on other controllers that you can with it, because the magic is in the mappings. For the money, you could get 60% to the cost of a Mashine Mikro, and have the same amount of buttons along with knobs and screen feedback. I will say however that NOTHING feels as nice as the buttons on a MIDI Fighter.

It was so worth it to just dish out the €25 for all the DIY components and put those arcade buttons in a VCI-100 myself. Way more tactile than any stiff rectangular controller button.

Whats the deal thread, why haven't we been sperging out about new stuff coming out lately?

Vestax is releasing a 4-deck controller, unsurprisingly the VCI-400:
http://www.djtechtools.com/2011/09/30/vestax-vci-400-exclusive-video-and-photos/

Allen and Heath are releasing a new mixer the DB2

And a controller the K2
http://www.skratchworx.com/newspage.php4?fn_mode=comments&fn_id=1805

and Pioneer have a new midi-controller the DDJ-Ergo (looks space-age as gently caress):
http://www.skratchworx.com/newspage.php4?fn_mode=comments&fn_id=1799

Plus there' also some new kid on the block in terms of software titled "The One," which is pretty vague on who's behind it (My feeling is Stanton based on the logo, but I have no idea. Perhaps our resident rep can confirm or deny?)
http://www.djtechtools.com/2011/09/30/new-modular-dj-software-the-one/

I mean, none of this gets me all that excited (more or less more of the same), but hey, new stuff.
