I am sure this is something simple but I have been looking to fix it all morning and coming up short. I have a couple items in couch potato that refuse to download. I checked my logs and the log indicates it found the item but it is outside '300 retention'. My NZB provider has a 1200 retention. Why is couch potato disagreeing?

I had it set at 1200... but after reading your post it gave me the idea that maybe that setting was 'stuck' so I deleted my couch potato install and started fresh. Whaddya know that got it working. Thanks for the pointer!

Doughbaron posted:Well, I just found out Cox is instituting data caps in my area. They are soft as of now but it's only a matter of time before they start charging overages. With my household's use of Netflix, Hulu and Steam we are going to have a hard time keeping under the cap without even considering Usenet. It was fun while it lasted. The only ISP in the area now without caps is really slow DSL. I've cancelled my unlimited account and will just slowly eat away at my block account. It should only take ~1GB per month per show if said show is a half hour long (if it were on TV, at least) and airs once per week. Really not too demanding to just keep up with shows you already have, and better than downloading them over and over from Hulu which is basically what you'd be doing if you watched anything more than once...

Has supernews gotten really lovely over the last day for anyone else, or is Time Warner doing something weird? I used to get a solid 3.9MB/s at all times from supernews, but over the last day, I can't get more than 500KB/s from them, and I changed no settings whatsoever. Edit: I can mayyyyyybe get up to 1.5MB/s from time to time, but it's very inconsistent as to when it's able to do this. I'm going over port 563 which obviously uses SSL, but I've tried switching to 443, and the non-SSL 80/23/119 options, which are all around the same speed. Of course, if I go to speedtest.net, I still see the 3.9MB/s speed I'm used to. Is my ISP (Time Warner / Road Runner) throttling all traffic to it, or is supernews being lovely? I don't download all that much, between 125 and 250 GB / month. Is it time to start looking at a new ISP or a new usenet provider? Yeah, this is ridiculous. It managed to hit 2.5MB/s (which is still terrible) for about a minute or two, and now it's dropped back down to 800KB/s. ndrz fucked around with this message at 17:03 on Sep 24, 2011 |

Haven't had any Supernews issues today. (Cox/Phoenix) ---- I've got a strange issue with Sickbeard. I had a show that had it's 4th season premiere this week, but SB only showed 3 seasons. I tried several times to force the update, but it wouldn't get anything new. TVrage and thetvdb both show the season and episode. The strange part is if I deleted the show, then re-added it, it pulled all the new info. So it's not my connection to the DB listing doesn't work, it's like it's refusing to update some existing shows. Not everything, I only had issues with two series that I can tell so far. Deleting and re-adding fixed it in both cases. Anyone seen anything like this before? It's not a super huge deal, but I don't want to have to re-add 50+ shows to make sure they're all actually updating. E: Using the 488 alpha build. The newest one that's compiled.

I had that issue earlier with one show, can't nail down what's causing it either. I'm thinking about installing a Windows Git client and pulling down the latest updates to see if they fix it.

Is it just me, or is it becoming increasingly pointless to download anything that isn't completely new? It seems like anything more mainstream that I add with CouchPotato is incomplete as all hell (likely due to DMCA takedown notices), and I mean every single version of it, 720p or 1080p, from every single group. My provider is UseNetNow (unlimited Blocknews). I'm starting to worry that the studios are getting really, really good about issuing these notices and that the era of Usenet being a less-regulated bountiful bliss of downloading is over. There are some items that I've downloaded over 10 versions of, all turning out incomplete, often by up to 50%. The only stuff that ever works are incredibly recent postings, before the takedown notices are sent, I'm assuming.

Really I wish scene assholes would rip SD stuff using my h.264 settings instead of bad settings or still using avi and other crap that people can reliably watch on their lovely VCD players, that would be the best of both worlds I often end up with movies that look as good as the source DVD and are 1GB or less, makes me feel uneasy and want to go and re-rip at a higher quality just to be "safe". The difference is so amazing if you have an old VCD rip or something to compare to, those things were nearly unwatchable even at double the bitrate.

What indexers does everyone use? Is Newzbin as good as it used to be? I'm a little bit stuck on where to search because the indexers I currently use don't produce the results I'm looking for half of the time. I've checked the OP but the ones suggested there again don't seem to produce the range of results I used to get before Newzbin shut.

Straker posted:Are you low on drive space or something? Why would Netflix and Hulu take precedence when you could get everything you want from usenet right now before caps go into effect? I don't want to get into details, but Usenet takes the lowest priority as far as bandwidth is concerned in my household. I have several other people here in the house who use Netflix/Hulu/whatever and I haven't and wouldn't try to convince them that a comprehensive Usenet solution would be better for everyone. Perhaps my decision to yield to their media consumption desires is uneconomical but it satisfies the needs of everyone in the least confrontational manner. Not to mention we have bandwidth needs that exist outside media streaming. Aside from that, I was merely expressing my disappointment with the upcoming cap system. Speed limits on connections I can understand, but data caps I don't. It simply looks like Cox's (and tons of other ISPs) attempt to gouge customers. Is there any reason why ISPs limit monthly data consumption other than to suck up more money and protect their dying media distribution models? I would really like someone to enlighten me on that if there is an actual reason.

As for caps, to be blunt, it's an American thing, follow the money. Publicly owned companies have to make as much money as possible. If there's no competition then gently caress you, why upgrade infrastructure when it's more profitable to do the opposite and gouge the poo poo out of everyone for what's already there? They will charge you as much as they can afford to without risking suicide bombings or assassinations. Public options are sorta viable in some frustrated populations but they're lobbying against that as well, it's ludicrous. Straker fucked around with this message at 07:53 on Sep 25, 2011 |

It's happening with both my FreeBSD sabnzbd+ server, and when I try with my Windows 7 machine in Newsleecher, which makes me think it either has to be UseNetNow, or my ISP, Cox. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Other-Internet-Related/NZB-Download-Checker.shtml Check some of your nzbs using this software. You should be able to tell if you're getting lots of random missing pieces or if there are DMCA issues. Giganews for instance will take down the first 2 pieces of every file, so its pretty easy to identify on their servers if its DMCA related vs just random missing pieces.

I bought 10 gigs on Blocknews a long time ago. Today, I downloaded something that was around 800 megs, but when I tried to download a second thing, I noticed I was getting "connection refused" messages. Turns out they let me go over my limit by almost 150 megs so I could finish downloading that first file. It counts against the new block I bought today, but still, that's pretty rad
