The riot shotgun is pretty superior stats-wise, but it's just not as cool as the lever action or the sawed-off.

Also Naky has some really great shotguns in TA.

I think NV in general has a good balance of terminal reading. I kinda wish there were some more in some areas but overall it's good, I always stop to read whenever I find one.

I loved Human Revolution but I think they went overboard with it there. On one hand it's obviously nice and it makes sense since it takes place in an environment with, well... lots of computers. But I think the gameplay flow kinda goes out of whack a bit if you're a player who doesn't want to miss any backstory.

Anyways, the Riot Shotgun is probably one of my favorite guns. If you couple it with the "Stay Back" perk, it's just glorious. Especially since the Riot Shotgun has like zero recoil, you get this really nice sense of being a unstoppable terminator, just moving ahead and shooting people while they fly around, unable to withstand the barrage.

I think Beths version of the gamebryo at its core has extremely wonky combat mechanics. I hate how drat clunky it feels in Oblivion, F3 and F:NV. But NV really improved upon things by having some excellent and varied weapons design. Most of the guns feel really nice to use.

Don't forget the Shotgun Surgeon perk as well. They go flying and you rape their DT.
I love the Riot Shotgun, fast rate of fire, great damage, versatility with the various ammo types, and is utter rape with the shotgun-based perks. Plus it sounds awesome. Real fun to engage a group of baddies and go *BLAM* *BLAM* *BLAM* *BLAM* *BLAM* and watch the bodies fly. I really wished they included the Pancor Jackhammer in this game even if it really didn't fit in the Fallout universe, and I'm really disappointed that there's no GRA shotguns.

I'm really glad I saved before I spent 21000 caps on the Bozar. What a piece of garbage that thing is. Huge spread, and in VATS it took more than a clip to kill a legionnaire.

I'll just stick to my Gobi Campaign Sniper Rifle and my All-American Carbine.

There's a mod that let's the Bozar be effected by Grunt (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=44147), with that and Grunt it gets considerable better.

I found the Bozar to be really excellent, though it's situational like most guns in the game.

In particular, I used it to really great effect in Lonesome Road versus the Tunnelers. Excellent to tear those little shits up at medium range before they get to close. Haven't looked at the specific stats but seeing as how it uses 5.56 and is automatic, I could guess that it's best used against low DT/no armor enemies.
Or, using 5.56 armor piercing with it might be something...

Of course, there are always alternatives like the shouldermounted machinegun, but...

Yeah, the Bozar is not an automatic Anti-Materiel Rifle. It's a scoped LMG. It doesn't do a lot of DAM, but its DPS is high and its accuracy is *~ pretty good ~*. Because it uses 5.56mm, there are a lot of ammo choices, and that gives it a great deal of flexibility.

I had a small supply of RadX and RadAway when I entered and I told myself I'd only take a peek round the first floor before leaving to resupply. But you know how it is, you check one nook, you have to check that cranny. I was also stingilty rationing my RadAway lest I find some other compartment I had to pilage, and never having suffered from radiation poisoning before, I wasn't certain how much I could take.

Panic struck when I was ambushed by a group of glowing ghouls and my radcount instantly spiked, pushing me into radiation poisoning. I checked and still had two or so RadAways, and I was relieved to find out these nullified the bad effects. But I was really freaked when just about at the same time I started seeing blue. Long term consequence of irridiation? I didn't know, but it really punctuated how badly I needed to get out of there. However, my morbid curiosity had led me three floors down, and I wasn't certain which way led out. I easily get claustrophobic losing any sense of orientation, so it's only natural that I soon ended up knee deep in reactor coolant. Anyway I was legitametly scared like a motherfucker. I was out of antiradiation chems, running low on stims, and my vision was blue. And I was moving slower, much slower. I was effectively crawling. I was certain I was dying. In a last ditch effort I opened my pip boy determined to make sense of the local map function (the layout never made sense to me, and I never before had the need to use it). I found my bearings, realizing just then how the quest marker points to the nearest exit. Following that trail I slogged through hallway after hallway, footstep after footstep. It was excruciating for me the player sitting in front of my computer. It took forever, and all the while I was convinced I was going to melt into a radioactive pool any second. There were actually a few more times when I lost my way - but somehow, after close to an hour (I poo poo you not) of shambling on one foot (that's what it felt like), I finally saw the vault enterance, and crawled that stretch out of the cave.

I quickly travelled to the doctor at Camp Forlorn Hope as soon as I saw the Mojave. Paid for the radiation treatment. But my trudging step continued. I considered for a second that the game had permanetly crippled me - but these aren't the 90s, so no. I tried sleeping and Fixers, but to no avail. I was certain at that point that it had to be a bug, reloading didn't help. Then I thought to check the Caps Lock. Oh.

I think the blue vision was a consequence of using so many chems in a short span of time. But since it was the first time I experienced it and it came entirely out of the blue (:downsrim:) it was quite terrifying.

I didn't think much of shotguns until I first entered Freeside while carrying one and got rushed by a thug. Before I even had time to think my finger reflexively hit the fire button and the thug charging me got his face blown off by a lever-action shotgun, his upper body flying backwards as the momentum of his running legs pushed his lower body forward, and then equilibrium was reached and the body hit the ground and lay still.

"That'll do, lever action shotgun," I said,"That'll do."

The earth has music for those who listen.
If you are annoyed with the difficulty of enemies in Dead Money or Old World Blues, remember that you can always turn the difficulty down, it does not effect experience or the number of enemies or how intelligent they are, all it does is increase your abilty to do damage and decrease the enemies. The third time I did Dead Money it was with a character who was level 44, and I had a lot more trouble than on previous playthroughs, then I loaded up one day and the ghost people were a lot easier to handle and I had a lot more fun with it. That's how I found out that the difficulty setting was not tied to a particular save - my daughter had been playing on Very Easy on her game. At first I was unhappy that I had played at a lower difficulty and considered reloading an old save from before the change, but I realized I did not want to re-do the parts that were still pretty challenging on Very Easy over again.

There's no achievements or bonuses for playing on harder difficulties, they are just there to make combat more challenging for people who are good at that. Why be frustrated over hard enemies when you can make them easier without effecting any other part of the game experience? When I did Old World Blues the first time, with a character in her teens, I did not adjust the difficulty down, it was well balanced. When I did it with a high level character, I bumped it down toe Very Easy, but that was a little too easy, then brought it up to Easy.

It's really weird how the DLC areas work. You'd think that the more powerful you get the easier they'd be but they scale all the enemies to your enemy, so when you go there as a level 30+ powerhouse all the enemies are bulletsponges.

Check out this let's play of Dead Money, for example. He literally goes in at practically level 1 and all the enemies die incredibly quickly. They wouldn't go down that quickly when I did it :(

I am running Fallout 3: GOTY edition on Windows 7 64-bit, and Fallout 3 keeps crashing and messing up like no tomorrow. First time I run it, it always crashed after I finished designing my character in the beginning. I switched it to windowed mode and somehow that fixed it. It was fine for a while then I get this problem where the game window acts like I alt-tabbed out and back into the game instantly, causing the game to pause every 5 seconds. I go back to fullscreen, and for a while it was fine, but now I'm crashing every 5 minutes and I have to ctrl+alt+del to get it to close.

Is there a way to make this game run normally? :sigh:
