Ridiculous.

Not even specifically podcasts but just at a general advertising level I've never understood this. If you repeat an ad enough times it's going to have an adverse effect.

ABC has started doing this with their On Demand TV shows. No I do not want to watch a trailer for The Help three times in a row.

But I also listened to their Wolverine episode and enjoyed it, I think I might need to get used to their style. Any other episodes you would recommend?

I like the Bratz episode because it was one of the few movies they actually enjoyed, and it's usually pretty boring for them to just hate the movie. That, and they reference it a lot in later episodes.

Nothing else really stands out for me, although I recall thinking the 10,000 B.C. episode was pretty good. Also Old Dogs, if only for the "porthole of time" talk afterwards.

Every Mohr Stories episode must start with a 5-minute skip. Do all the Kevin Smith podcasts have that much poo poo tacked on to them?

The Kevin Nealon episode was great. Mohr is a masterful impressionist, and hops from cast member to cast member, and showing almost encyclopedic knowledge of SNL. Also, "chinkaminute" from ep9 is the greatest story ever told.

Most of them, but it's obscenely easy just to fast forward it a couple minutes to the beginning of the actual show. A lot of times when people host things on the internet, it costs money and a lot of times those costs are cancelled out by advertising, either for your live shows or someone else.

I tried listening to a Mohr Stories podcast and the funniest thing about it was the block of absurdly awful Kevin Smith ads in front of it, which were as aggressively stupid as the Gathering of the Juggalos ad they played on that Paul F. Tompkins episode of The Best Show on WFMU. If it didn't have so many needless curse words I would suggest them to Scharpling on twitter as something to mock on his show.

I think the issue is that sticking a five minute dingleberry of ads at the start will probably cause a lot of people to turn off and not bother downloading them again. I certainly can't be bothered trying any of the smodcast stuff now I know there's five minutes of ads at the start of every one.

I listen to TeSD and I've given Mohr Stories a couple of listens and will probably listen to more. I used to listen to SMod until Smith became such a huge pothead and the whole podcast pretty much turned into him talking about how much he loves weed, how much weed has improved his abilities, or his plugging his other podcasts or projects.

It is pretty easy to skip past the block of commercials at the beginning, and that's what I do. Thing is, it doesn't have to be that way. Though most of the podcasts I listen to have ads, the Smith network podcasts are the only ones I skip through, and it's because they're so long and boring. WTF has ads, but Maron goes through them pretty fast and in a conversational way so it doesn't break up the flow. Earwolf podcasts also have ads, but they're pretty short and they're somewhere in the middle so they're easier to ignore.

Basically they're unobtrusive, so I don't mind listening to them. In fact, I'm more likely to look into whatever they're selling, since their ads don't bug me. Smith is really only shooting himself in the foot by making the ads on his podcasts so long.

Are people really that sensitive to ads on free entertainment It's five minutes of easily skipable ads. How tough is it for you to watch TV? They have like 7 minutes of unskipable ads spread throughout AND you have to pay for it. What about magazines or newspapers? Do you get angry and put it down when you open the page and on the first page is an ad that you can skip, knowing that there will be about 50 other ads?

I'm not angry about it, I just don't want to listen to a podcast that they've just shoved five minutes of ads on the start of. I'm aware I can easily skip them, I just choose not to bother listening at all. As for everthing else you've listed there, I pretty much get all my TV and news from the Internet these days so I rarely have to suffer any adverts if I don't want to.

I don't begrudge people funding their podcasts through ads as I know it isn't cheap to produce and distribute one, I just prefer it when they integrate them better into the show. I mean, I actually looked forward to the "Paul F Tompkins Comes To Your Town" section of the Pod F Tompkast because it was still funny despite essentially just being a list of his upcoming gigs.

I'm sorry that the fact I don't want to listen to five minute ad blocks has led you to construct an image of me as some sort of constantly irritated lunatic, swearing at my TV and throwing print media around my house as I bellow with impotent rage.

I've probably said it before elsewhere, and I know it makes me an rear end in a top hat, but I really found the Smodcast buildup to the release of Zach and Miri Make a Porno and then the aftermath hilarious.

The 3 or 4 podcasts before were all excited and talked a bit about early critical reaction to the film and they planned on having an episode that was a commentary track for the film so you could take it with you and watch and they were so excited.

Then the movie came out. Dead silence. No Smodcast for a month or more.

When it finally comes back it's all Kevin talking about how depressed the poor box office made him and how he'd spent basically weeks in bed high on weed afraid to face the world.

vv Yeah, I had no desire to see the movie, but I thought it was a cool idea.

He said plenty of times it's insane for him to be upset about it. Everyone kept hyping it up to him that this movie was going to do huge. So he started getting his hopes up and then when it did pretty poorly, it hit him pretty hard. I think when you put so much into a movie and to have to fall short when you were expecting so much, of course it's gotta be tough on you.

He also mentioned that it eventually became his highest grossing movie, which he also thinks its ridiculous. He still makes fun of himself for Mallrats, Jersey Girl and Cop Out anyways.

Kevin Smith bashers get more worked up over him being bummed about the box office then he did himself.
