In fact, from what I'm told, he HAS to punch Digimon to get his to digivolve. That's why his fist goes glowy from time to time. It's just him somehow collecting data via fists (or something like that, I've never watched anything of season 5 past that video, but other goons in other threads assure me that all the punches are non-powered except by hot blood).

I remember loving every season of Digimon, but Tamers especially. It was so dark compared to the others once the story got rolling, and all around just well made. I also remember gasping when my child ears heard Devimon's digivoled form punching something and he said "friggin."

I think you mean Impmon's evolved form: Beelzemon. That was a really great scene. It's up on youtube if anyone's into spoilers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ONnnQVlOqc Impmon had one of the best redemption arcs I've seen in a cartoon in a long while.

This made the rounds awhile ago but I was reminded again by my sister tonight.

This is a bizarre rumor- one so bizarre I haven't even heard it elsewhere. The only connection I can find to Sesame Street and the date of November 10th is that it's the day it debuted 42 years ago. I was then thinking perhaps someone misinterpreted the announcement that the CEO of Sesame Workshop was leaving to run NPR, but his date of departure is December 1. Not sure where this rumor came from, but it's not true. Sesame Street is alive and well. As for the Bert and Ernie thing, this was talked about in the news a few months ago due to an online petition that sprouted shortly after gay marriage was legalized in New York. The concept of Bert and Ernie being gay, either as a joke or for real, has been discussed, parodied, or talked about for years. Sesame Workshop's official statement in the wake of the petition news was the same statement they have given for years regarding their sexuality: Bert and Ernie are just friends, nothing more. As puppets, they are neither gay nor straight. mobo85 fucked around with this message at 04:31 on Oct 5, 2011 |

Yeah, if that was even remotely true I would probably be able to find it just by typing "sesame street" into Google. Not even "sesame street cancelled" shows anything. Not like it even takes that to realize that PBS would be retarded to destroy their massive cash cow. Where did you even hear that, out of curiosity?

GonSmithe posted:Yeah, this has a 100% on Rottentomatoes. It's supposed to be incredible, I can't wait to see it. Elmo tends to rub me the wrong way, but this looks awesome. I love Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Oh, and Digimon was my numero uno guilty pleasure as a kid. I knew it was stupid, but in addition to really loving the designs of some of the characters, I was hooked by each new story arc, because the stakes just kept getting higher and higher. As a big nerd, I was also really impressed by all of the references to Japanese, Chinese, Hindu, and even Christian mythology--the Twelve Deva Generals (who also doubled as the 12 Animals of the Zodiac), the Five Harmonious Guardians, the first Season 1 arc paralleling the myth of the Fall of Lucifer, the mythology-inspired names of various Digimon, etc., etc. I liked Season 1 and Digimon Tamers best, I think. I really liked how Season 2 continued to develop the old characters, but the new characters were kinda blah. Frontier had a cool duh-why-didn't-you-do-this-before premise---because I was always bothered by the gross imbalance in the whole human/Digimon relationship, where the Digimon does all of the fighting and heavy lifting, and the child is there to provide, I guess, motivation, and the power of love---but for some reason, it didn't grab me, and neither did most the character designs. Never got to see much of Digimon Savers. Tartarus Sauce fucked around with this message at 16:36 on Oct 5, 2011 |

Frontier was OK and frankly I think it get's more crap than it really deserves. It had some good things going for it and I had a good time watching it regardless of the fact that the villains were pretty weak and in the end the main character could have been written out entirely with no real impact on the plot (the emo kid with the bandana had all the plot baggage). Season 5 though, now THERE was some lovely television. (Edit for clarity) readingatwork fucked around with this message at 17:05 on Oct 5, 2011 |

As far as Digimon Frontier is concerned, I'm going to put it as thus; When Astroboy 2003 took over the timeslot after Frontier finished, the jump in quality could be measured in magnitudes. If Astroboy had started after Tamers ended, the jump would have been measured in centimetres, at most.

I'm very hesitant to watch MLP. I'd say the fanbase that shall remain nameless is about on the same level as Sonic fans, but Sonic fans have even less of an excuse to like their franchise since it's been bad for so long. Perhaps I'll watch it the next time I smoke up. That's how I discovered Avatar: The Last Airbender (along with good word-of-mouth).

Dr Snofeld posted:That should probably be FOR KIDS, actually, my mistake. Well every show in this thread is FOR KIDS, so I don't see how that's an indicator of terribleness either. I don't know anything about the apparently very hosed up "Sonic" fans, but if it's referring to the lovely Sega game and even shittier cartoons, that was all for kids too. The show itself is fun and if you just don't go to the darker corners of the internet about it you won't have to deal with the gross poo poo.
