Forza 4 does look amazing. The demo has been available for the past few days and what I notice more than anything is the way the transient responses have been improved significantly.

I played the demo and a few things struck me. First, it looks better. Which you should expect. Second, the car dynamics seem to have more feel. It's some what easier to know when you are on the limit. Then there is the bad stuff. The AI still can't find the racing line / proper braking points or corning speed to save it's life. From the videos and PR you can see all tracks have been given a facelift. However, this facelift is purely cosmetic. The extra run-off areas added in recent years @ Laguna Seca and Road America do not exist in the new game. A lot of times you will see people here advocate for stripper model cars in the name of fuel efficiency, performance, whatever. Heck I would love to be able to buy a car with a modern engine, suspension, brakes, etc that is super cheap to buy and own. He's got a point. When they announced the redesign I was left with the feeling that VW was trying to make a car for people with ulcers -- as bland as they could make it. They took "unpimping the auto" to the next level. They might as well have called it the VW Car.

I intentionally bought a basic cheap car with no options, non-metallic paint and the only thing I've done to it is add a set of tasteful alloy wheels so I could use the steelies for winter tires. It's great. Hardly anything to go wrong, basically the only thing I can't fix myself in a couple of hours is the ECU and there's no getting away from that anymore. It get stupid good gas mileage and can still keep up with traffic on the freeway. I don't need fancy gadgets or computer-controlled this or that, I just need a car that runs well, is reliable and is fun to drive when the mood takes me. It's not fast. Getting the larger engine almost always mean going for a higher trim level, but I've got a two-wheeled murdercycle for my speed fix. I tell you, it's wonderful not being bogged down with unnecessary fluff. The only option I would ever consider adding, were I to by a new car is aircon and that's still highly optional.
