As written on our steam page: HALF-LIFE WEEKEND. (HLW) October 9 @ 06:00pm Scheduled by: Kazvall {R} At 6PM EST, we meet to play SVEN-COOP. After we have devoured enough snarks, we will go on the gently caress each other in THE SPECIALISTS. We then play WIZARD WARS if I can't convince anyone to a quick round of Natural Selection. Be advised, any people willing, we will be playing SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY at 4PM EST on Sunday as warm up. Let's take turns raping Gordon Freeman underneath the stairs. Yummy. E: Also, I will post the servers here, and on our steam page on the day of the event. Kazvall fucked around with this message at 01:32 on Oct 7, 2011 |

I am a pretty good commander if we need one. This won't be a super serious game. As long as we don't play CO.

I really like Quakespasm (http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/index.htm), based on fitzquake. It's pretty basic comparatively, but that's how I like it. I haven't tried DirectQ (http://mhquake.blogspot.com/) like closeted republican mentioned, but it looks like a good option. Don't play Quake through steam. Use a port. If you want the classic vanilla experience, play at low resolution.

Also you can call for map votes in-game so we could just take over that server to play in. It's 20 slots so that wouldn't be an issue. It's an extremely fun game and I would enjoy playing it with a few goons. Need this server's IP. Not sure I can make it myself. I will be on by 6pm, and I'll post the SVEN server beforehand.

That was fun, though I wish Sven Co-op had lasted a bit longer. And I would've liked Wizard Wars more if the characters weren't as slow as slugs. Also, the human ladder http://steamcommunity.com/id/76561198000630385/screenshot/559795813677513713/?tab=public

So we did about an hour on each mod I think. Sven was good fun, I really wish that Wolf3d had more maps. They Hunger was also sweet, and I have a few great SS of our human ladder. Science and Industry was a huge blast from the past. 20 people was crazy. Natural Selection is still one of the best games. Not sure how I remembered how to comm so well after all these years. I got brutally raped in TS, especially when folks from the internet joined. Mainly jc denton. He raped us all over and over. Wizard Wars, while unpolished as poo poo, maybe aged a little better than tfc. I have to note that certain classes, like the wind guy, actually move much faster. It's like Team Fortress, where the scout is much faster than the heavy. If anyone still wants to play Sven, I think we might do a bit of that. Join chat. Thanks all for coming! I'll definitely be doing something similar again. (Sorry about that Sven server, Robo, it was late in our playing of it, and we decided to play TS pretty quick after that. My fault.)

Does anybody know if the latest NVidia drivers for the GTX 260 fix the issue with games that use the Quake 2 engine where they crash a few seconds after you boot them up (like Sin, Soldier of Fortune 1, etc)? I'd update and check myself, but Rage is working fine on my PC, and I don't want a driver change just to check if some old games work to mess that up.

Before my 260 died, I thought regular q2 was working fine. I use egl quake 2 now, and it's actually not bad at all. http://egl.quakedev.com/files/

Make the BFG a plasma rifle." quote:I do NOT want to see another game with a drat Famas in it, I am so sick of that gun. This was followed by a bunch of people who are sick of seeing the FAMAS in games. I didn't even realize this was an actual problem. M16 / MP5 / AK-type rifles, maybe...but the FAMAS? Is it seriously the most over-used weapon in games? quote:The US military is still issued with m16a1's I believe. quote:@The M16A2: This weapon is slowely being replaced by the XM8 and SCAR series weapons. Also, pretty much every weapon you see in the CoD MW2/MW3 game American wise, has made it's way into the US Military IRL. We just haven't gotten enough kill streaks to make our troops Cold Blooded. I'm sick of fighting wars with Vietnam-era M16A1s, call in a UAV so I can start using that gun that was never used in the US military! quote:The M16 is the basis of many modern assault rifles, such as the recent VOLTR TS3. It will probably remain that way for at least another 20-100 years. "I forecast that between 10 and 300 years from now, we will be using M16s to fight our wars against the Robot nemesis." Thanks for the accurate prediction, Doctor Guns. A guy with a Twinkie for an Avatar posted:Actually, the rifle in his hands looks more like an M16, because the magazine goes in front of the grip and that thing on top is a carrying handle, not where the manual lever for the slide is. Shows how much you know about weapons. And if you wanna gripe about weapons not looking futuristic enough, set your sights on the shotgun. It's based off a shotgun made in the late 1800's originally, so... "Idiots. Clearly this grip-lever for the bullet-slot is over here. Don't you know anything about guns?" I didn't realize M16s had manual levers and slides. You sure you don't mean charging handles and bolts? Also, the Doom shotgun is not based off anything made in the 19th century. Alright, I want to play Doom again and want to try that Brutal Doom mod, running it through the default campaigns. I am, however, a collosal moron when it comes to these things and have no idea what to do without breaking everything. Can someone give me an idiot proof guide for installing the mod with the Steam version of Doom? And also on that note, is there a way for me to get the PSX music/sound effects and levels for use with the PC version of the game? I remember them quite fondly.

All you need from Steam is Doom2.WAD - just drop that into your GZDoom directory (get the latest build from here) and that'll do all the work for you. Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Strife also work, but Doom 2 is the requirement for most mods. As for launching mods, Quickly Launchering GZDoom (over in the OP) is a really handy tool for that. Just drop that in your GZDoom directory and run. Set your IWAD (core game data file) as Doom 2, then add whatever mod files you want and launch.
