Yeah, I've been feeling the same way. I officially stopped listening to the Stern Show a few months ago when it just wasn't even good background fodder anymore. Sadly it kind of left me without any sort of non-music thing to listen to in those times where I just don't want to listen to music.

I'm not into sports at all, but the Nick and Artie show has been really funny and even they admit it's hardly about sports at all. I doubt I will ever listen to it religiously like I did with Howard, but it's great to just pop on for an hour or whatever if I feel like listening to some talk radio.

It is really great and perhaps even worth their own thread as they do shows every night. That's way more material than most podcasts. I'm surprised at how far they go off topic and never get dumped or anything like that. Nick is a total pro

I just watched the ESPN documentary about Steve Bartman, and they included a clip of Captain Janks getting through to SportsCenter pretending to be Bartman. The way Dan Patrick just barely holds it together when Janks drops the bomb on him is great.

Pill head weirdo or not, Janks was seriously amazing back in the day.

There is a good breakdown here:
http://realbubba.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/meltdown-mania-ludlow-lebron-defeats-bubba-the-love-sponge-in-twitter-war-of-words/

I have a feeling what really set Bubba off is that the guy tweeted something innocent to Heather.

Bubba is just one of those guys that can't separate real world interaction from the virtual one. If someone calls him a human being on Twitter he gets physically mad.

EDIT: This is also interesting http://realbubba.wordpress.com/2011/09/11/bubba-the-love-sponge-announce-separation-then-divorce/

I didn't know Bubba bought a race track.

The saddest thing about all of this is Bubba's personal drama is more engrossing than anything on either his or Stern's show for the past year or two. It's fascinating to watch Bubba just sink in a raged-fueled hick mire.

According to Bubba he has a pretty solid prenup agreement and its basically going to come down to cutting her a check based on some parameters in the prenup.

Bubba is dumb if he and heather are pulling a Spencer and Heidi 2.0, people honestly don't care about D-list celebrities. It does't sell, which is evident because of of those reality "stars" are living back home with their parents.

Let's be honest, he's a huge idiot.

He bought a raceway and a night club in a fire sale during a recession, and didn't understand what kind of market forced the original owners to sell them.

Instead of taking a lesser deal from Sirius, he was so short sighted and inept that he thought gambling on a internet venture that would have been laughed out of a VC board in Silicon Valley was a smart thing. Then when the internet venture, run by incompetent idiots, didn't make any money because it had no advertisers and no subscribers, he then hosed his hardcore fans over by making his show free in a feeble attempt to attain subscribers. Now he's a PR nightmare and advertisers are pulling their advertising from the show because they don't want their products associated with him anymore.

He's doing 10 things at once and failing at all of them because he's a dumb greedy idiot.

Fred has been SO off over the last few months. He occasionally still nails it, but he's just gotten so lazy with the digital clip system. Even though he now has an insane number of clips at his disposal and isn't hindered by physically switching out tapes he plays far fewer sounds than he usd to and Howard has to ask for music where Fred used to instinctively cue it up (to great comedic effect). I find myself laughing over the thought of clips Fred could've used during news stories or crazy callers and then I get sad :smith:

The entire show is just on auto-pilot at this point. It sucks. And I think we've reached the point where the show is now on 3 days per week all the time.

Meanwhile, the Nick and Artie show is just killing it. If you loved Artie on the show and have even a passing knowledge of sports, just give it a try. Half of the show is just riffing on various topics not even really related to sports.

Since Stern is off today, so I've been listening to Nick and Artie all day, catching up on last weeks shows. It's almost odd that I've yet to have them say anything that makes me annoyed or angry. It's just a very laid back and entertain show.

Not to sound like a weirdo, but It's almost like I'm a battered wife that's finally been let outside and I'm just realizing that not all shows treat their wives the way mine does. If that makes any sense.

The Stern show is just saturated with so much spite and venom these days. That is part of what makes it great, but I'm beginning to think its' not a mentally healthy thing to listen to every day for the last 5 years.

Best quote from the other day:

Nick: "The Eagles really need to get back the Michael Vick of old."

Artie: "That's bad news for dogs."

Both guys are funny and work well together but I feel like there isn't a real broadcaster in the room, someone who can move the show along. Sometimes they get stuck on a topic that isn't working but they keep on it until the next commercial break. Maybe they will get more comfortable in the future.
