I strongly dis-recommend the new Misfits album to everyone. I mean, Jerry Only sucks at writing songs, and he sucks at singing, so I'm not sure why I might have expected an album wherein he does a preponderance of both to not suck. The Devil's Rain performs a rare feat, being a record which both sucks and blows. It's painfully boring, everything blends together into an unmemorable, overlong, vaguely Misfits-y sounding pile of crap.

This album will make you pine for the singing talents of Michale Graves. I would rather listen to the middle four tracks of Famous Monsters (previously, the worst poo poo the Misfits ever recorded) on loop for an hour than hear this record again. This album will make you want to kill yourself when you realize that the man responsible for it had a hand, however minor, in three of the greatest hardcore records of all time. I would rather listen to the loving Kryst The Conqueror record than hear this record again.

Saw them last night and have to say it wasn't bad at all. Jerry wasn't too bad, obviously no danzig but nice to hear the older poo poo live at least for not having seen them before. The new guitarist they have is not good at all. He played the newer stuff first and I didnt mind it. Overall pretty good crowd, good venue I enjoyed myself.
On a side not is anyone here from the Colorado? specifically north of Denver. New to the area and trying to find venues and local bands to check out.

That was my first thought. My second was that Jerry did some super cool non-Misfits stuff that I'd never even heard of :ohdear:. So, yeah. Thanks for clearing that up.

That new guitarist is such a scrub. He's probably never done anything good.

He sang in Black Flag for a while and played guitar, guess that doesn't say much for technical ability.

Back in the 90s when Jerry and Doyle were suing Danzig for the rights to use the Misfits name I totally thought Danzig was the one being a jerk. But now that Doyle apparently does not even want to play alongside his own brother anymore I think that maybe Glenn was right after all.

Angered & displeased, he went to the Blessed One and, on arrival, insulted & cursed him with rude, harsh words.

When this was said, the Blessed One said to him:

"Motherfucker I will -end- you"

In all fairness the record isnt boring in itself. But it is a metal album, and not simply inspired by metal like a bunch of propaghandi. I think its especially disappointing, considering that the new misfits lineup is 2/3s black flag members. But yes, I dont recommend the devils rain at all.

I loving love The Saddest Landscape. My favorite track is Imperfect but Ours, mostly because it features backing vocals from Laura Stevenson. You should totally listen to You Will Not Survive if you haven't, and they have a new album coming out on Topshelf next year.

Nonsense is better than no sense at all
If you like dystopian concept albums with influences from bands like Jawbreaker and Leatherface Abolitionist is worth checking out. Lyrics are a little repetitive but overall it's a good album. They also have a 7" on bandcamp where proceeds go to Rwandan victims.

It Used to Rain is about a 2 year drought and the chaos that comes from it; might be Australia within 10 years. I ended up picking this up cause Horsebite did the artwork.

arroyo, amalthea, broken chords can sing a little (funny asmz ref), score one for safety, and magdalene should all fit the bill of post-rock with screams/scream breaks. significantly moreso than bands like jffb or saetia.

They just played in Charlotte last night but I ended up deciding not to go. Was it a good line-up? A lot of the other bands I wasn't very familiar with.

Also, I actually wanted to post a track by a North Carolina emo band that I forgot all about until one of my friends was making fun of them (I think) on Facebook. Anyone ever heard of The White Octave? The singer was in Cursive before he formed this band, then left to form Criteria.

Guys, I've been out of the hardcore scene for awhile now, since around 2005. Who are big guys in the scene now? I used to listen to alot of remembering never, bury your dead and as I lay dying, but I listened to some of their newer stuff recently and its just horrible. Just, blehhhhhh. Too much actual singing, really disheartening.
One of my buddies in my class recommended Dr. Acula to me and I'm loving it. I also listened to alot of "deathcore" stuff back in the day too, winds of plague, prayer for cleansing, suffocate faster and the such.
Anyone have any recommendations for me?

Sure, how about The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza? Kind of tech, kind of groove, but amazing I say. A lot of the Sumerian Records bands are getting attention, too. I don't want to list too much metal or anything, and you mentioned hardcore, but I feel like there's not a lot going on in that scene. Touche Amore are amazing and they've got a great fan base growing. Check them out if you haven't heard already.

If you haven't already, then you should really check out Portraits Of Past. Some of PoP went on to forming Funeral Diner. Their full length is one of my favorite records of all time. Off Minor might be another band you'd be interested in since you mentioned Saetia. They were pretty incredible as well.
