4 seasons of A Bit of Fry and Laurie are available. I grew up with Monty Python on PBS as the only available British comedy (besides the briefest pinch of The Young Ones on MTV), so this was a great find. I think this show gets referenced with some frequency on these boards so it was nice to finally get in on the joke.

It's also pretty awesome seeing House being all goofy & variously british.

Well now you need to watch Blackadder and Fawlty Towers, which are also on Netflix and amazingly funny. And Blackadder has Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

It is a bad, cheesy sci-fi show, but it does have some aspects that might make it interesting to watch depending on your tastes and how much of the negatives are tolerable to you. I watched most of it, usually while dorking around doing other things simultaneously, and got some enjoyment out of it but don't know if I'd say I like the show overall.

Here's a pros/cons list that I'm sure plenty of people would disagree with:

Pros -
A really interesting and unique atmosphere to the show
Crazy sprawling weird universe setting
I like the idea of the big organic doom weapon ship, and like its voice for some reason
I sort of like the concept of a crew of non-heroic misfits that aren't necessarily good or likeable people a lot of the time
Some of the settings/creatures/ships and such are pretty imaginative

Cons -
Weird sex themes that are usually just uncomfortable, awkward and gross
Frequently poor production values, although they sometimes do really neat stuff with a clearly very limited budget
Sometimes very melodramatic which is all the worse when back to back with the awkward sex stuff
Sometimes the characters just get too unlikeable or annoying

Thanks, I'm trying to find a good series on Netflix to get into for a bit. I just watched the first episode of Lexx. I think they cut some of the weird sex out, but not all of it. One character started making out with a woman's forehead, it was definitely weird and awkward.

I've only seen the first 4 episodes. The first is the best, quality goes downhill from there but it was mildly entertaining. There is a lot of sexual innuendo but I would describe it as humorous, but I guess that depends on how you feel about sex. It was toned down in eps 2-4. I keep meaning to watch season two to see how it turned out after Zev became Xev.

Edit: Nip/Tuck is there, I've only watched a few but enjoyed them. Earth 2 is a pretty good series although it ends rather abruptly. Farscape is good if you haven't seen it.

Yeah, Bronson was great but unfortunately I wish it had more true to the story bits and didn't throw in a bunch of fiction just because.

Still a good, off beat movie. Great acting.

The biggest Bronson mind gently caress is that it's this dude most famous from Black Hawk Down

If it goes downhill from the first episode, I'm done with it. The sexual innuendo wasn't humorous to me, just weird and misplaced. If it's not a great show, I don't have the attention span to follow it. Star Trek, I can follow while messing with my computer. Lexx just seems too nonsensical. I'll give Farscape a shot. I watched Earth 2, good but a tiny bit dated, and the last few episodes were aired out of order and yeah, it did end abruptly. I love the cut ins/outs for commercials that they left in.

It's an absolutely hilarious show. It's definitely one of those "I'll get around to it eventually." Just watch it. I watched the whole first season, then immediately obtained the second and watched all of it as well.

Farscape is incredible and definitely worth watching. It and Lexx were actually airing back to back on Scifi when that channel was worth watching, and Farscape is just better in every way possible.

It has some problems toward the end due to budget issues. They were signed through a fifth season, then Scifi pulled the plug, and they had to shove a season worth of plot into a two hour DVD movie. Still good, though.

Yeah, I just watched some episodes of Warehouse 13. I thought it might be like that Sanctuary show, but it's actually pretty good and not focused on terrible plot/characters or bad cgi. It might be a recent movie, it might be a british movie, I really don't know. All I know is that I hear that song and I have visions of a very funny scene in a movie and that's it.

Help me, please.

Edit: Nevermind, found it. Turns out it was a scene in The New Guy, where the main character was dragging around an unconscious bully.

Yea, I've been working my way though Warehouse 13 as well and I sure they can not pull off an ending. It always ends up being some incredibly stupid idea that works and it ruins the fun of the show (which works a lot of the time due to the two main characters).

If you're in the mood for cheesy bullshit it seems like they just added One Eyed Monster and it's about Ron Jeremy's detached, possessed penis murdering people in an isolated cabin. It had a few funny moments but it was mostly just stupid and worth watching drunk.

The main characters in W13 get watered-down and cliche ridden fairly quickly. Myka goes from tough to sensitive really fast. Joanne Kelly also over-acts to the point of being annoying. The writing is lazy and relies on Pete and Myka making all sorts of dumb mistakes to move the plot. I watch it with my kids otherwise I wouldn't watch it at all.

Farscape is the complete opposite... great writing and lots of character development. One warning though, season one starts good but turns awful halfway through. You might be tempted to give up but things improve considerably with season two and it becomes one long storyline from there with some episodic content.

I'd written off Breaking Bad after seeing a .gif of a character throwing a pizza onto a roof, thinking it was yet another zany situational comedy filmed without a tripod, but holy mackerel, was I wrong. Don't let the description fool you--it is a TV drama about drugs, but neither in a "drugs are awesome" nor in a "scared straight" way. The story revolves around Walt, a high school chemistry teacher recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Knowing that his time is short, he decides to make as much money for his family as possible before he dies by secretly putting his extensive knowledge of chemistry to use--cooking methamphetamine out of an RV in the middle of a desert wasteland in New Mexico.

I don't know if you've watched up to the pizza scene but it's one of those genuinely hilarious moments that just happened on camera. The protagonist, Walt, is played by the Malcolm in the Middle dad, who is pretty gifted at physical comedy.

I'm fully caught up to the show now after 4 seasons, I marathoned the first 3 when it came up on Netflix. I really like the show but I do feel that in season 4 it went off the rails a bit where the plot got too big and complex in my opinion and got too much away from the main character. I still like the show but I think the first 3 seasons are better.

Now things have kind of "simplified", hopefully next season, which I believe is the last, will be focused and good.

We're about through what's available via streaming. Maybe four episodes left? Can't say I didn't thoroughly enjoy every bit of what I've seen so far.

Also, we've caught at least one actor calling Walt "Hal" (his character's name on Malcolm in the Middle) either by mistake or as a joke (Example: Walt and Jesse are stranded in the desert after Jesse leaves the keys in the ignition of the RV. Walt is passed out/sleeping in the lawn chair while Jesse is cranking the broken generator. Jesse goes to wake him up to see if they've cranked it enough, and as he approaches, he says "Hal?".)

You'd never guess it was made on a $300k CDN budget. Great acting, nice camera work, decent costumes. My only problem is the night scenes are just a little hard to make out sometimes, and I don't think it's in HD so you lose even more there visually.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago. The acting isn't solid but they really captured the concept of people who just don't like their real lives getting pulled into a rather ugly fantasy world of their own making. It makes the whole thing an unsettling descent into mass hysteria.

I just watched Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon without really knowing much about the film going in and enjoyed it a lot. It's a mockumentry about a guy who's training to become a an 80's slasher film style serial killer. Not the greatest movie ever but they had a lot of fun with the concept.

Apocalypto is up on Netflix, it came out when I was still in highschool and this sort of movie wasn't really on my radar but holy crap I loved this. I guess you'd call it a drama about the fall of the aztec (mayan?) civilization from the point of view of a small tribe who lived apart from the great ziggurats of the greater population.

I normally use netflix when I'm doing something else (doctor who is on right now for instance) and this movie is completely subtitled so I wasn't listening too closely as I was playing a game. About 15 minutes in I had realized I had stopped playing the game and was now just watching the movie, so I put it on the big monitor and made popcorn. Right on.
