So far I'm only an hour into today's show and it's a classic. **American Nightmare** - Howard bitching about how Sirius wastes money. - Howard bitching about how Sirius screwed him over and owes him money. - Howard bitching about how Sirius does not respect him. (not that it stopped him from taking their money and resigning) - Caller calls in to call out Howard on complaining about Sirius - Gets ranted at. - Caller calls in to call out Howard about only being on 3 days a week - Gets ranted at. - Bobo/Pittsburg Pete/some douche calls in to lick Howards' rear end telling him the show is the best it has ever been - Gets praised. Whelp. Good use of 20% of the total on-air time for the show this week. Vakal fucked around with this message at 14:50 on Oct 19, 2011 |

Not that any of us are surprised, but at least we got confirmation to our suspicions when the contract was renewed that the 3 day week would soon become the standard. And now it is. I actually thought it would take a little bit longer for the 3 day week to become permanent.

Howard being on 3 days per week would be OK if the three days were actually good. If ONE day was good it would be OK. I have only listened to a handfull of shows since Artie left and a few segments here and there and the show is just the same old crap every time and I feel like I literally know what Howard is going to say next. I watched the episode of HTV where Sal threw up at Ronnies show and they all looked like they were doing a play in the studio. Everyone knew their part and said their lines right on cue, and it feels completely flat. Ronnie: "whats your problem?" Sal: "I'm sorry, Howard, I know I did something wrong" Gange: who the gently caress gives a crap Shuli: "Oh man, everyone around me were doing stupid things and ruining my act" Howard: "Ronnie used to stalk me, Sal your wife hates you haha, (gange voice), Can't you find someone better to do shows with?!" Baba Booey: "When I go out drinking/want to take time off/go to the bathroom/whenever I don't..." I miss loving the show as much as I did, that is why I am sad.

Lawsuits take awhile, more so ones like this. They probably put a hold on it until his current contract runs out, so he doesn't lose like 80% of his material for the show.

Listening to Monday's show just now and Howard so far has complained about: - People enjoying car racing - Not knowing where to buy DVDs - A $18/month charge for Netflix Less than 5 minutes into the show. The show is still entertaining to me, but in the sense that Howard is a crotchety old unlikable gently caress with a platform to be miserable in the public eye.

Howard spent the whole first segment of todays show talking about the lawsuit via a rant about a Studio 54 party that sirius held. He was all "do you think im going? Im sueing the company" and then he went into how bullshit it is that sirius doesn't think he's entitled to bonuses from the xm merger subscribers while they waste money on poo poo that does nothing for subscription numbers.

I gleaned 2 interesting things from the Perez Hilton interview today (Serious, stay with me) 1 - An outright admission to 3 day weeks "I work 3 days a week now" Not shocking, but I expected a couple months more dance around "Producing content" and "Other talent on the channels" before big reveal. 2 - During a discussion of Lindsey Lohan, Howard or Robin bring up that Lindsey's parents are scumbags and partially responsible for the gently caress up she is. Perez answers with "Yeah, but after a couple years on your own, you have to take some of the responsibility for it yourself" I loved that this could not have fallen on a more deaf set of ears. A man pushing 60 with 2 decades of therapy under his belt thats irreparably screwed up because his mom checked his whole rear end in a top hat with a flashlight and his dad ignored that he was being beaten for being different.

Hell, I don't even listen to Artie or ETM stuff anymore from there that was awesome to begin with. It's sad how I got into this show because of Artie and the like and now with him gone, so was I. It just took a few months to see if ETM was going to do anything cool and then realizing his antics really ended with Artie's departure. In a way, Stern has not only reinvented talk radio, but shown its major weakness: when you make it all about yourself, people get to know you better. Then they get to know you so well they don't really like you because every flaw you have is amplified, leading you to either be completely honest or be revealed as a hypocrite. As for Sirius, it's obvious whomever is running the company is just content to let it finish itself off. It doesn't really have a future, especially in a poo poo economy where people are getting sick of paying for content.

Why, after nearly 2 years, does THSS still not have someone sitting in the funny chair? I understand at first it was to respect Artie, but he's been healthy and doing his own thing for long enough to make it clear that he's never going back. Howie just sounds spiteful to his company, anyone making money, and the rapidly decreasing amount of fans that he still somehow has.

See I disagree. The barriers to entry with satellite radio were that you had to pick between XM and Sirius, then you had to buy hardware, then you had to subscribe. Nowadays all new cars are getting satellite radio pretty much standard in the models, and the fact that there's only 1 company now to pay for content removes the other barrier. That leaves a subscription as the only barrier to entry so if you can justify 90-100 bucks a year for it it's not that bad of a deal. I used to be gently caress paying for satellite, but I realized how much I enjoyed having so much content available at my fingertips. So I think the culture might be changing.* *I have no subscription numbers to back this up.

Since we're all complaining (as usual) I'll mention that I tried to listen a bit this week but gave up when they were goofing on Occupy Wall Street. Not so much goofing on the individual interviews, which admittedly Sal and Richard found some confused hippies, but goofing on the whole protest. "How do they spend all day protesting? When I was their age I was in college or had a job." Your parents sent you to college and the economy has been in the toilet for three years. There are no jobs. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. Then followed by "I heard the whole protest thing was homeless guys trying to get laid." I'm not even sure what that means but it sounds retarded. It came off as Old Man Howard not wanting to pay taxes again.

Ok here's some funny clips, when Robin brought in her bra and they wanted to see how many potatoes they could put in it. I like Artie's new show okay, but it's a bit too much affectation for me. It's like no one can talk properly, and - most importantly - they all play up on that fact. Like a working-class accent pride parade. "We're here! We can't speak! Now listen to us!" Edit: And for those that think I am just being an elitist douche, my childhood home is literally 2.2 miles from where Artie went to high school. No one loving talks like he does in our neighborhood. And I don't know where Nick is from, but he sounds like a bad actor from Iowa doing his "tough guy" accent for a casting director. Ray Litotta is from Arties neighborhood and he sounds similar to Artie, some people's accents just aren't as pronounced. Maybe Artie plays it up a little bit, who knows. Nick is from the North Shore in MA, and that accent has a fairly strong Masshole sound to it. Izzy,so you pronounce "eggs" as "aiegs?"
