Jack Tripper's wingman.

We might be able to hazard a general guess as to when it's coming just by what kind of footage we get in the new trailer. If we're seeing a lot of actually gameplay, then it might be sooner than we would think. If it's just pre-rendered vistas of the new city with a generic voiceover, then who knows. Of course it'll likely have a "COMING XXXXX 201X" at the end anyway.

Oh, and I firmly believe that we're headed to Vice City.

I just bought the Steam sale package and will probably install all the mods on this page, as well as one of the graphic enhancments to make it all pretty like. First person mode and increased population will probably make the biggest gameplay differences for what I want out of the game.

Typically. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this coming out in time for the usual late May release window Rockstar usually hits with their big sandbox titles.

I only played the first two GTAs when they came out for the Playstation, never played the 3D iterations until the Steam sale.

Going to try and rush through them whilst waiting for SR3 to be released, although not sure I can handle the frustrating lack of checkpoints and going back and forth when you fail a mission and lack of a proper ingame map. Some of the decisions seem strange even for a game that was released almost 10 years ago.

It's interesting to see the improvements in each game, GTA3 to Vice City was a massive step up.

I know it's probably impropable, but I'd like it if the style of GTA V would be a little less serious.
To me, Vice City was the pinnacle. I'd love a spiritual sequel to Vice City. Not necessarily set in Miami, but with the same style, flair and humor. Hell, I liked Tommy Vercetti very much. He was a proper psycho.

GTA IV's plot bored me, despite their attempts to get me to sympathize with Nico, the unwilling drugrunner/serial killer/kicker of old ladies/etc.

I can't wait for everyone to make a million assumptions about what you can do in the game based on a three minute trailer and then tear the game apart because it didn't live up to that.

But seriously, it's gonna be great. I think the Los Angeles rumors are based on casting calls for voice actors that turned up a while ago.

I'm hoping they go the other way since Saints Row 3 will have the silly stuff covered. Excited either way, but hopefully GTA5 doubles down on trying to create an awesome Scorsese movie-like experience.

We'll all know more when the trailer pops out.

I guess it'll be out in six months, with another six for the PC port. I had kind of thought they might've sat on their hands for a bit and aimed for making a launch title for a next-gen console, whenever they're coming out.

GTA really has never been "serious" other than GTA 4. I really like when they fill that space of we have a serious story and setting filled with absolutely insane and over the top characters. San Andreas is pretty much ideal.

God I love the GTA series, my favorite in all games but I have mixed feelings about this. I'm excited, but pissed at Rockstar since they are pretty much console only these days and more than likely won't port it to PC. If they didn't port Red Dead, I doubt they'll port this.

Vice City, where you couldn't climb over walls, or swim, or fly planes, and had the choice of six or so outfits. I loved playing it at the time but once San Andreas came out, I couldn't go back.

Grand Theft Auto wouldn't work as a launch game. The development times are too long and they need time to figure out how to best use hardware too.

I'm the one weirdo that actually liked GTA4 and wouldn't mind seeing them continue moving in that direction. There are plenty of rough edges to sort out (like Roman calling every five minutes) but I think they could make a really great game that ends up being very different from what Saints Row has to offer.

That said, it's pretty hard to imagine how they could gently caress things up so badly I wouldn't be buying GTA5 right away.

I liked GTA 4 as well but I can see where people didn't enjoy it. I honestly don't know how sold I am on the whole companion thing. I found my self never building relationships in games with the other characters and would always deny their calls unless it moved the story forward. If you ask me, and I don't know if this is the popular opinion or not, I would want them to take that part out. It just felt like a time sink that really provided nothing worth while.

Agreed with the last bit and I just said that in the Saints Row 3 thread as well. GTA was so heavily discussed by the media when I was growing up that they don't even need to tell me whats in the game. I know that I've loved every GTA and at this point if a new one is coming out I'm buying regardless. GTA is a pop culture icon at this point, everyone knows what GTA is.

No, the marketing for GTA 4 was intensely focused over 13 months. First trailer was released March 2007, the game was released April 2008.

I liked GTA4 too, but it sometimes fell awkwardly between the wacky GTA and serious GTA. Red dead redemption got the balance nicely I feel.

And I never found the friends calling to be that frequent or irritating, and even if you just ignored them the friendship didn't decay that fast (and only a couple of the benefits were really necessary anyway)

The Ballad of Gay Tony fixed a lot of GTA4 issues, and surely they'll incorporate RDR stuff too.

Also wasn't GTA4 originally supposed to come out October 2007 when that original trailer was released?

Yeah I remember new commercials and trailers coming out every month or two, remember the 'welcome to liberty city' ads starring characters that weren't significant?

Anyway I knew they'd announce it to coincide with GTAIII's anniversary, but I can't possibly imagine what they're going to do with it.

Only thing is I really want them to bring back some classic stuff, Rampages, RC explosive vehicles, phone booth missions, the bicycles from SA, and of course oodles of easter eggs and inappropriate humor.

I just saw this, and I'm a huge GTA fan! I have to say I'm surprised they made the jump to GTA V already. I thought they still could have dragged the engine out into a couple more iterations without branding it as the 'NEXT' Grand Theft Auto game but arguable that was what they were doing with the Episodes from Liberty City expansions.

I think someone was right when they pointed at the fact that it might be based in Washington or something like that. That's the only indications that the font and title really make to me so far, and plus I feel like there's a lot of really great land marks that they could re-create in DC.

You were thinking of the The Getaway.

And that font makes me think of GTA San Andreas. If they're gonna set it in Los Santos, I want it to be set in the early 1990s like San Andreas was like or during the crack epidemic. Rockstar is very good at creating atmosphere and creating in-game worlds as shown in GTA IV and RDR. So I'd love to see what they would do in a more modern period-piece.

GTA IV was barely serious as well, when you think about it. Yeah the "real" plot was semi-serious but you were still doing all kinds of crazy stuff in line with like GTA III.

Anyway all I can say is I really hope GTA V sticks with the sheer depth of a city IV gave us, streets that have actual names and a layout that makes it feel like a "real" city.

I'm still waiting on a recreation of the original GTA 1 plotline with modern GTA IV sized cities. Start out in Liberty, move on to San Andreas, then finally you make it to Vice. poo poo would probably take 100 drat hours just to finish the main plot but hell you'd be a property and crime baron in 3 cities (or maybe more if it has San Andreas expanded to a "state" and the other two cities done likewise).
