I've been having a think on how Rose and Dave's godtier powers are likely to manifest themselves (as we have a pretty good idea of the crazy stuff John and Jade can pull with theirs). I've had trouble putting one together for Dave (since Karkat was too busy leading the Trolls to work on the true meaning of his role as a Knight), but I reckon I've made decent headway with Rose. Maybe someone else could try doing one for Dave? Rose is the Seer of Light. Let's start with Seer, in particular Doc Scratch's analysis of what makes a true Seer. A Seer's job is to be their team's strategist and analyst, and to make the right moves at the right time to achieve their long-term goals. This is something Rose has struggled with so far, gamely at times, but at other times outright fighting against her prescribed role: she's been stuck between fighting fate and trying to use it work out what to do, and as such has fallen between two stools. Rose's "role model" for Seering is Terezi, although not using the same methods: as a Seer of Mind, Terezi derives her seer abilities from psychology, using her knowledge of how people think and react to predict "if... then" scenarios. Rose is the Seer of Light, so although her "class" is the same as Terezi's, her "domain" is Vriska's. Light in the comic seems to manifest in the form of fate and luck: as the Thief of Light, Vriska stole it from others. Rose probably won't be able to steal luck or just be plain lucky because she's not a Thief. But luck and fate certainly have applications for a Seer. So Rose should end up with Terezi's prediction powers, but based on fate rather than psychology: my guess is she'll now have an intuitive grasp of the alpha timeline and how to stick to it (and hopefully use it to everyone's advantage), rather than worrying about the right thing to do. Though saying that, post-Scratch who knows whether the alpha timeline is still a relevant thing. Paul.Power fucked around with this message at 13:31 on Oct 27, 2011 |

Somehow this fits so well it simply must be true. Starmaker posted:e: it just occurred to me that we're going to have to put up with Grandpa/Mom and Bro/Nanna shipping now. Psh. More like Grandpa/Nanna and Mom/Bro shipping! Edit: Hold on, if the ectobiology of the reset session was set so that John, Rose, Dave, and Jade are the 'parents' and Nanna and Grandpa are the ecto-kids of John and Jade while Bro and Mom are the ecto-kids of Dave and Rose... that means that fan art of John and Jade and Dave and Rose wouldn't be incestuous. I really like Cascade (Beta). I mean Cascade is nice but Beta is a lot more coherent plus it has more of Tensei doing things to guitars which is always a Pretty Okay Thing. I wonder if we'll ever find out what the ultimate riddle is. Or for that matter, the ultimate alchemy. I'm hoping we'll find out in the final act since this is supposed to be an Sburb session played the "proper" way, since they both seem to be tied with the game itself. Although at this point I'm liable to think the ultimate alchemy is actually the creation of the green sun and it was just another red herring to think that it was part of the game. You can't get more ultimate than mashing two dying universes together. Mr. Pumroy fucked around with this message at 14:09 on Oct 27, 2011 |

My thought was that maybe the Grandpa Harley we see wandering around the Medium was actually an adult J. who found a way back into the pre-Scratch universe, not this universe's Harley. Karkat never explains what the ultimate riddle is, whenever John asks him about it he just dances around it or acts exasperated. This is the last time it's mentioned and it sounds like he's about to explain it but the narration jumps to a different perspective. And the ultimate alchemy, from way back, I think someone mentioned it had to do with the Denizens. I don't think it has to do with the ecto-babies stuff, though at this point who knows.

My only nitpick with the flash is I really don't like the head-on view of Jade's face we get, it looks really goofy/amateurish in the middle of such a cool/important moment. Like the guy from El Goonish Shive contributed art. Other than that, it was great of course!

Mr. Pumroy posted:I thought you said Jack there for a moment. I really don't like the close up view of his face just before he cuts a chump. Yeah, but it's fleeting. The Jade front view (even the side view, to a degree) gets shittons of cheaply-animated exposure that it's really not strong enough to carry. I suspect the goofy, simplistic drawing of Jade in that pose was probably kind of necessary to facilitate animation, though. Someone needs to buy Andrew a Korean sweatshop to crank out tweens for him so that he can fully animate this poo poo.

Lexxy posted the originals of that drawing and it looked different and better than it did in the flash; I think it just suffered from Andrew editing the face/expression.

That being said, the art style of EGS is actually pretty decent, I think. I mean the comic has its problems, sure, and plenty of them, but the art isn't one of them, especially when you compare the first strips to more recent ones, it's one of the most drastic scales of improvement I've ever seen. /derail

So, if the kids and guardians do, indeed, switch places in the post-Scratch universe, as has been hinted at... won't that mean that we'll have a reverse-Alternia situation in our hands, seeing as the post-Scratch players won't have been generated in that session, but the previous one? ... And I can't get the image of a Bec Scratch out of my head. Excellent dog, best pet.

That could be the case, but it needn't be. Ectobiology is weird enough that it might well just have happened the other way around in the new session. Or the order in which they arrived on Earth could have been different, or... There are lots of possibilities here, and there is so much still to do that I'm not too bothered by all the gods and the insane amount of power Jade has now. I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. (I like the idea that we'll be sort of following the new players for a bit with the old cast just popping up in the background once in a while.)
