There have been so many confirmations of devs working on them, getting close and I have even seen an excerpt from twitter or an article of a dev actually getting an untethered version working but the ETA wasn't available for the public yet, so hopefully not TOO much longer. I am sure many of you can agree? Also, my previous question wasn't answered if I someone can if they know: is it possible or difficult to install an untethered jailbreak over a tethered? http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=17645 Soon, VERY soon! I saved all my SHSH on my Verizon iPhone and never had issues jumping back from say 4.2.8 to 7 and back to .8. After upgrading to iOS5 my phone gets stuck in a reboot loop if I try to restore any version of iOS4 and the only way to get out is to use the iOS5 image. I've tried recover43 and fix recovery from the redsn0w application in both Windows and OSX. I am able to get a 4.2.x ipsw to install if I use iReb and restore the jailbroken image, but once booted up I get no signal on my phone and it doesn't show IMEI or ESN. The only way to get a signal is in iOS5. I never saved my baseband because I was on the understanding that keeping it OG was for people that unlocked their phones to use on TMob and the likes, which isn't an issue since this is a Verizon phone and won't be allowed on any other carrier without some majorly illegal poo poo. Why can't I restore iOS4?

They still haven't fixed the VVM/MMS bugs with ultrasn0w on 1.59.00. I actually just uninstalled it a couple days ago for that reason. It also has a nasty bug where it'll drop your 3G IP address and absolutely refuse to pick up a new one until you uninstall ultrasn0w entirely. I tried absolutely everything I could think of to work around that and never found any other solution.

Does anyone happen to know what the iBooks "fix" is in the latest Sn0wbreeze? I'm tempted to redo my jailbreak to try it but if it's just the fix where you copy iBooks from /var/mobile/Applications to /Applications and hack a plist and lose iTunes syncing, it's not worth it.

Do people on newer basebands get better reception or are the updates simply to thwart unlockers? To me Apple would want people to unlock their phones because that means a potentially larger set of customers, right?

Different version of the firmware might require/expect different baseband. Version mismatch is probably breaking the signal. IIRC old basebands on 3GS/4 with newer version iOS meant broken signal bar, and the only way to 'fix' that was to install ultrasnow, even if ultrasnow didn't unlock the phone or if you are just using legit sim card.

So I did a little tinkering today trying to figure out the iBooks stuff. I ended up reinstalling IOS5 using Sn0wbreeze. Using all of iH8sn0w's utilities lets iBooks work just fine after restoring everything from my previous redsn0w jailbreak. You have to use his little iBooty.exe app to do the tethered boot, so after I'd reinstalled/recovered/installed all my Cydia apps, I thought...let's see what happens if I try to use redsn0w to boot? When I did that, my phone worked just fine, all jailbroken apps worked, but iBooks didn't. Then I went back to an iBooty.exe boot, and iBooks was working fine! It looks like whatever fixes iBooks is done during the boot process, not as part of the IOS load or some setting you can change at a user level. So, if you're feeling adventurous, you could try booting a redsn0w jailbroken phone with iBooty, and see if iBooks works. I'd make sure you have a backup before trying it, though.

It is still not working with iBooty boots. I really wish there was a good fix out since I actually use iBooks quite a bit to read on my breaks at work and I had just got a bunch of new books. Oh well, I figured I would just have to wait for a real untethered jailbreak to be released.

I've been fighting with this phone for a few days and I'm running out of ideas. I've got an iPhone 3G I'm going to give to my dad as he wants something to check email with on tmobile, it was running 3.1.2 and I upgraded it to 3.1.3, I was able to jailbreak it with jailbreakme but I couldn't unlock it as the baseband is 5.14.xx I got my hands on a macbook and used redsn0w to try upgrading the phone to iOS 4.2.1 with baseband 6.15, it looked to be successful but the phone is stuck in a bootloop. So what gives? How do I unlock this device?

Girlfriend's dad just gave her a 3GS, but the "IT guys" that gave him the phone upgraded it to iOS5. Thankfully, Apple is still signing 4.1. Downgraded, stuck the iPad baseband on there, unlocked, popped in T-mobile SIM - all works beautifully. If you haven't, get your 4.1 SHSH while you can! On a related question, I am super jealous over the T-mobile rates. Unlimited text/data and 100 minutes for $30 a month. That beats the poo poo out of my AT&T plan. Unfortunately I have an iPhone 4 on 4.3 with baseband 04.10.01. It doesn't look I can unlock my phone with ultrasn0w, but I hear there are some SIM cards that can do the unlock. The only problem is that when I look for it all the web sites look super shady. I probably won't be able to do this for a few months, anyway. Any suggestions, goons?

I was really exited about the possibility until I hit that roadblock.

I managed to get 4.2.1 with baseband 6.15 on the iPhone 3G and jailbreak then unlock it with ultrasn0w (still need to test that with a sim). Now that I've got it working again, how does one create a custom 3.1.3 firmware so I can downgrade? I've searched around but I can't find any good info on that.

I'm on wifi most places anyway, so the 2G thing doesn't really bother me unless I'm needing to tether, which is rare. iPod + feature phone isn't ideal since I already have an iPhone 4. Why use two things when I already have one? Thanks for the info, goons. I should just man up and ask my work to pay for my phone.

My wife's work pays for half, and my work pays for the other half of our bill.

Which is why a public release will simply not happen.

I imagine since its literally 1-2 devices doing it its not raising any flags. Also they're in the same area/wifi and I doubt they're using Siri simultaneously. But a public release would suddenly have the same 4S pinging Siri from everywhere. Honestly with AT&T bumping my upgrade to now I'm just waiting for my next paycheck to get a 4S and hope for at least a tethered jailbreak by the end of the month.

Since I have a 4S, it may not be an issue using Siri on my 3GS. They would just see my 4S connecting each time. But, I'm pretty sure this will eventually show up on that piracy repo. Just like apps/games posted on torrent sites come with a dozen CD-Keys, there may be a dozen IMEI strings or whatever included in the pirated Siri files, with instructions on how to use it (keep trying different IMEI strings until it works!). Apple will of course start to ban the IMEI strings, which will both piss off legit 4S owners they belong to, and get the pirates out trying to look for more. In other words, if you don't have a 4S, I wouldn't look forward to having Siri.

Has anyone upgraded LockInfo recently? It seems as if the text underneath the Calendar tab has been completely changed... as if it is permanently bold and just different, perhaps bigger as well... I preferred the way it was before-- does anyone know how to change it back besides downgrading? I went through every drat setting and was unable to find anything except for making ALL of the text smaller (Small to Extra Small). Really freaking frustrating- I think it looks a lot uglier now completely bolded.
