GM is pretty terrible, but i did like the ending, when a character who had been annoying and unpleasant for the previous 1100 pages suddenly proves his worth. beside, how can you have a revolution without a proper long march?

I give up, who's this? Is it Saxifrage? He's the character inserted to give sci fi fans someone to identify with.

In that he has no empathy and is involved in a cultural war started by his inability to talk to a girl.

EDIT: Also he has a nerdname like Wolfgang in "Explorers"

Yeah, he's an annoying and unpleasant character but he does come through in the end of GM, which was a pleasant surprise and totally loving awesome.

The new guy they got in to finish the series after Jordan died has loving saved those books. Books 1-5 are good, really peaking at 4/5, then a long slow descent culminating in like book 10 or so where there are like 900 pages to describe what happens in one loving day.

Then Jordan dies, Sanderson takes over and everything goes balls to the wall. The last book is going to be nothing but loving epic battles.

go grab book 2, flip through the chapters and see how many end with the sentence "He took another life-preserving milk pac from the case, pulled the heat tab and fed it to the baby. There weren't very many left in the bag, time was running out."

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.

Read the chapters alternatingly, ie don't read the chapters Clarke didn't write. It makes the book way more enjoyable.

i've started reading leguin for the first time ever, and it's p good. she has a very different authorial voice than i'm used to in sci fi. i dunno if that's because she's a woman or if it's the anthropological perspective, but it's pretty cool. reminds me of mary doria russell, which i'm guessing is because russell probably read a lot of leguin
