Nothing I know of that has her mix of characterization and fashion. The only thing that comes to my mind might not be quite what you're looking for, but the manga Octave has: adult characters, drama, mistakes, and the dizzying heights and horrible lows of love and life. It's not a perfect manga by any means, but overall I really enjoyed it. So, if those are some of the things you like about Ai Yazawa's works you might give it a look.

I POSTED WHAT NOW!?
I'd second Octave, it was pretty good.

Nothing else I can think of really matches her works. I will recommend watching Chihayafuru as the same director who worked on NANA and same studio is adapting that and the material is pretty good too, but a bit less mature than Yazawa.

WHOOSH
Took me over a month, but I finally finished Kimi ni Todoke, and the second season.

Overall thoughts: Perfection.

While it doesn't have the best romance scene in anime history, it was otherwise perfect. It avoided the usual tropes, and spruced up the ones it still touched on. The romance felt fresh and constantly elicited a gasp or swoon from me- in the final 5 episodes of the second season, I often wouldn't go longer than 2 minutes without having to hold my breath again.

The art was beautiful, the music was almost perfect(the re-use of the opening songs in piano was often more distracting than suitable, but both songs were classy as hell), the voice acting was the most intimate thing I've ever heard. I felt like I was one of them- not just watching them, hoping for them, envying them, but that I was there, experiencing Sawako's highs and lows as if I were her.

And finally, an ending in an anime that doesn't leave me wanting horribly badly. It ended perfect and satisfying. I don't even have the desire to go looking for fanfics or anything!

I like it! I'm only about halfway through what's there so far, but all of the characters are pretty entertaining, and it's a fun read, nothing infuriating. I'm a fan of the main character, she doesn't dance around her feelings.

So I guess that My Girl by Sahara Mizu has been dropped by all the groups scanlating it, and also that the entire series has now been completed in five volumes.

Is there an SA scanning group? It's a really great series and I'd love to see the rest of it. I'd chip in if it'd take some kind of commission to get it finished properly.

edit: I just got an email saying that chapter 25 just got released RIGHT NOW, I'm guessing a goon who is on one of the scanlation teams saw my post? :v:

I don't know if anyone here's seen Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, it doesn't seem like it's very popular here. I stumbled onto it on Crunchyroll earlier this week, and I'll be god damned if it's not one of the most adorable things I've ever seen.

It's complete fluff, and nothing deep or anything, but seriously I think I like all the characters involved. The main plot is that the lead girl is one of those super perfect people, great at academics and music. She has a secret hobby of being an otaku, and the main boy finds it out, and it freaks the girl out. The boy convinces her that he'll keep it a secret, and they become friends. It's another one of those romantic comedies where the leads just won't say they like each other, but at least unlike all the other ones, Haruka and Yuuto are basically a couple in everything but name. Haruka is also voiced by Mamiko Noto (Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke), which makes everything she says pretty damned adorable.

Good Ending Chapter 105 is out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5IVuN1N6-Y

Mainly though I'm happy to see that Aoi Hana 42 is out and at long last we get to see how Fumi and Akira's relationship is going, and it's going well for the most part, but Akira still seems, perhaps understandably, a bit confused as to what her feelings really are at the end of the chapter but "It's ok, you can kiss me whenever you want" was super adorable.

Shimura really likes having her characters in plays, but that's fine I like seeing her characters in them.

Plus: D'Artagnyan :3:

Now that I've had time to mull it over a bit more, my thoughts about the chapter have changed a little.
Aoi Hana 42
Fumi is crazy, loopy, head over heals for Akira. Akira on the other hand doesn't seem like she's ever initiated a kiss and in contrast to how the chapter ends for Fumi is shown once again to be deep in thought with a vaguely sad look on her face. She seems like she likes being with Fumi, but she doesn't really seem like she loves it with anything like the intensity that Fumi does. I suspect she was going to follow up her question to Kyouko about whether she'd ever kissed anyone with a question about what it felt like emotionally. And also, of all the people to ask about that poor messed up confused Kyouko was the one she picked. (I do of course realize that she is probably the closest friend she has outside of Fumi, but talk about inadvertently opening a can of worms)

So now I don't know if Akira is just not into Fumi as much, not gay, in love but shows it in a quieter fashion or what.

So where is it going to go from here I wonder. It's not like Shimura has any problem with putting her characters into difficult emotional situations, but even with all the ups and downs this group hasn't had quite as many huge shakeups and in Wandering Son.
In conclusion Chapter 42= :3:+:ohdear:

I've discovered Stiletto Heels Scans recently. They do pretty good josei stuff involving mostly post-college-aged people, but they have a lot of projects and only release every couple months.

I've particularly been liking Futago, which is about a set of fraternal twins who grew up mostly separately and their growing closer. This is accomplished by one bringing a young vagrant she spent her honeymoon with to live with the other.

3 AM Dangerous Zone is a cute, slow-moving romance about a girl who works long hours as a pachinko machine art designer and the guy she eats lunch with. The Mangafox link there has a thread that links to completed raws of the series, which is only 3 volumes.

They're also doing something called Toribako House by Yumi Unita (Bunny Drop). It starts with a 23 year old in a relationship with someone 12 years older. They've been together for 7 years!

Ah cool, I'll have to give the first two a look, been needing to find some new (to me at least) josei things to read.

If anyone who reads this thread isn't watching Chihayafuru they should probably remedy that right away, it's super good with great characters and some amazing production values too. So far I've managed to avoid letting myself sneak a look at the manga to see what happens, hopefully I can keep myself from doing that, I'm really alarmingly bad at peeking at spoilers.

I think I'm officially just done with Good Ending now. Plotlines involving sexual assault are just not what I'm looking for in a high-school romance storyline, especially to a character whose sole reason for existing is just to have terrible poo poo happen to her. It's the last straw in my patience for what has really been a frustrating read.

If anyone besides me is reading Aoi Hana it would be nice to hear some opinions about it and how it is going that aren't as likely to make me as annoyed as reading things about it (or really any anime/manga) from other places on the internet. Also, if you do like it you should add your opinion to the ADTRWiki too.

I have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen there, which is the only reason I'm sticking it out. Since what's-his-name saw her being escorted away, he'll either inform our protagonist what happened or go himself to save the day. Hoping for the latter so she can fall in love with someone who actually cared about her well being.

Haha, well I just assumed it had an ongoing translation since I knew I would "just take a quick peek" at some later chapters if I so much as looked at it on mangafox or wherever. Guess that makes my temptation to spoiler myself fairly moot.

Actually I had just started (and finished) watching this series two weekends ago, and as of last weekend I've caught up with the manga.

Very sweet story, though at least one point had me screaming BAD IDEA BAD IDEA in my head. Given that it's a fictional story though I'm going to roll with it, but if it happened in real life that would probably be my reaction. I am enjoying it very much though!

EDIT: Also to complete my shoujotastic Thanksgiving weekend, I watched the first two seasons of Maria-sama ga Miteru, and it's a cute series so far. A bit melodramatic, but I really like the characters a lot. Currently watching the OAVs on that series.

Being the Takako Shimura nut I am, I'm really fond of the series. It's actually what got me into the yuri genre in the first place. Hopefully, with GIRL FRIENDS and Wandering Son being licensed, Aoi Hana will get an English release at some point, as well.

Also, Fumi is one of my favorite characters. She's just so adorable and shy, but she isn't a doormat and knows what she wants.

Morinaga Milk is doing something more with Girl Friends, but I can't for the life of me remember where the hell I read about it. My hazy memory is that it's going to be a continuation of the series, but I don't remember at all if it was going to be ongoing or just a one-shot type of thing. She's working on something from one of her other series.

Fumi is one of my favorite characters too, for pretty much those exact reasons. For being such a reserved person she really has a lot of quiet strength in how she deals with life and the world around her. Recent Aoi Hana events:I hope things can continue to be good in regards to her and Akira dating, I literally keep flip flopping on my assessment of the chances of it working out, hence :3:+:ohdear: It says "A girl meets girl story that will set your heart aflutter" right on every title page though, so obviously I have nothing whatsoever to worry about. :gbsmith:

Right now, I think a lot of the tension in the story is a result of Akira not really knowing how she feels about Fumi, and struggling to figure out the nature of her relationship with her. I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't work out in the end, though.

As for GIRL FRIENDS, there was a drama CD made a while ago, but other than that I don't recall any news on that front.

Edit: Bleh, and it looks like Dynasty Scans is pretty much done for. Hopefully someone picked up Wife and Wife, since that was probably the only decent series to come out of the original Yuri Hime S anthologies.

Well, poo poo.

It does look like a group called payapaya is continuing on with Wife and Wife and also Sasameki Koto, which was the one I was most hoping to see Dynasty finally get caught up with. For all its faults and even though its pacing sometimes made glaciers seem downright speedy I still like that series. I've read the ending since someone translated that and posted it, but I'd sure like to read all the lead up to it.

Digging through my history I think I figured out that Morinaga is doing something a bit more with Kisses, Sighs and Cherry-blossom pink and I just got confused by her similar looking charcters.
