What do you guys think about these? Basically I'm looking for a 90/10 street to offroad breakdown. The commute I'm on is fairly straight (SW Florida) and with one lane highway traffic its basically an hour of 60mph riding. I am a beginner rider, so I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I would be willing to spring for the DRZ if you guys think it's worth it, since it is very high on my wishlist of bikes to own seeing how highly-spoken of it is here and in many bike forums. Thoughts? http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/mcy/2669761566.html http://daytona.craigslist.org/mcy/2581565890.html

Just to note, that DRZ is not a real SM. It's an S model converted to sumo and it looks like he didn't bother to change the speedo or the speedo drive which may or may not be a concern to you. edit: oops, looks like he mentions that right on the add. ^^^^ Here in the NE, with the FCR and Yoshi pipe, that bike would be a pretty good deal. You gotta realize though that neither the DRZ or DR is a very good choice if you're going to be doing a lot of highway riding. They get really vibey and the steering is very twitchy at high speed. sumos were made for the twisty stuff and you'll probably be pretty miserable if you're just cruising in a straight line for hours at a time on them. If I had the room, I'd seriously buy this. Probably a simple fix as there wasn't a whole lot to them and some common issues. Very rare as an 1983 650 too and super utilitarian. http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-street-cruisers-choppers-1983-Honda-GL650-Silverwing-project-bike-W0QQAdIdZ326892519 quote:1983 Honda GL650 Silverwing project bike.

The GL had a significantly different charging/ignition system than the CX and on top of that the 1983 650 had a transistorized system versus the 500 Capacitive Ignition. The magic boxes are known to even just have the plugs work loose and are susceptible to bad grounds. My money would be on that.

I'd try and get a PPI done on it by a mechanic, get them to take it around the block to make sure nothing's bent or damaged. Also, make sure the valve inspections/adjustments have been done.

This is a link to a bike I am looking at getting. It will be my second bike, as my first one, a Virago 250, is too small. Does this look like a decent deal? The blue book shows this pricing as right in the middle. And some of the upgrades are things I would have done myself(exhaust, HID lamp), and now will not have to invest in. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/mcy/2685172162.html

I can't count how many times I wanted to follow some of these guys and shine a 5,000,000 candlepower spotlight about 1" from their face at a stop light. It's almost as bad as ricers. That said, if it is a quality kit and properly aimed, it might not be so bad. However, I don't know if I've ever seen a quality kit.

cregets posted:Could you elaborate a little more as to what the main problem is with them? Is it just super bright in peoples rear view mirrors? When you say properly aimed, you mean down and not straight ahead right? Most HID kits don't have a proper cutoff, because they're putting an HID in a Halogen reflector, which is designed for halogen type bulbs. IIRC, HIDs use an arc where the brightest point is in the middle, and Halogens make the brightest light at the sides of the illumination wire. The reflectors in halogen headlight mounts are designed to provide good light scattering characteristics for halogen lights, and when you put HIDs in there, it fails to correctly reflect the light onto the road, instead sending a bunch of it out above the cutoff, blinding people. The other downside is that despite having a more intense light, it is often less effective at lighting the road because the reflector is all wrong. Just a heads up, was down at my Triumph dealer and they had a Speed Triple just turned in for maybe a good price. Details: Red Either 2011 or '12. Did not check for ABS Didn't catch mileage, looked in perfect shape Arrow dual slipons Smoked taillight Triumph LED turn signals Rizoma rearsets Gel seat That plastic thing that covers up the passenger seat Stealthed radar detector The fancy Triumph front brake fluid reservoir (didn't see the back) Triumph windscreen (but not the visor) Aftermarket brake/clutch levers TPMS (and unlike mine this one works) Some other odds and ends Dealer said he wanted 9500 for it. The damned mufflers alone are like $1500.

When you say properly aimed, you mean down and not straight ahead right? What Z3n said. An HID retro isn't as easy as dumping a bulb in your halogen housing, which is, unfortunately what pretty much everyone does. If it was only blinding in a rear view mirror, that's easy and a quick fix for the driver. When it's blinding all the oncoming traffic, that's not easy and dangerous. Here is a good read: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html

I passed my DAS test (UK) in summer and have been looking for a bike since, however seeing as I am a mostly broke university student getting funds has taken a while. I have scratched together about £1,200 and waddaya know I find this on gumtree. Suzuki GSF600 which is relatively local, in my budget (just), and almost what I want (Honda CB600f).
