Hey, now, Betrayal at Krondor and Return to Krondor were both pretty good (even though Feist sucks) and the Witcher games are well regarded.

From what I remember Return to Krondor didn't do too well (nobody played it) wheras Betrayal at Krondor is pretty much the best RPG of the early 90s.

gently caress all y'all, the best RPG I ever played as a kid was Furcadia Dungeon Hack. Randomly generated infinite dungeons, murdering wave after wave of bugbears, orcs, and nagas.

It fit on only four 3.5" floppies!

No no no.

Ultima 7 part 2 came on 7 3.5"s, 8 if you had the expansion. Also included a cloth map of the land. And when you beat it, you could write to Lord British and he would send you a certificate of completion.

It had creepy voice work which would randomly talk which could be pretty unsettling late at night. Also a wicked sweet intro.

We had to spend hours configuring .bat files to even play a fresh install, which made us hackers.

You could follow the story line or roam freely about the land- which might mean making the game unwinnable if you killed the wrong NPC. You could steal, get caught and sell guard corpses for gold, make bread, move almost everything in the game, and sex up ladies:

It was also one of the first games to include homosexuality (ladies only) and sweet mustaches. Look up Exult and give it a try. Don't bother with part 1 unless you really enjoy 2.

Are you discussing the books here? I'm taking a chance anyway.

Just finished ADWD and I don't know what to think, expect for being in total denial about GRRM killing off Jon (or did he?), so a big gently caress you is in order for him. Dunno why I'm getting all worked up, it's just a book, but Jon was my favorite character and all :smith:

What's the opinions here on the book though? I thought it was a bit lacklustre after waiting all these years. Seemed more like it was just building up for whatever's going to happen in the next book. Sort of like how AFFC felt imo. I've been avoiding every ASOIAF-related since the book came out so I don't know what anyone thinks of it tbh.

Dude Jon is not dead. There are so many outs for him to live its ridiculous. The only question is which one the Gurm uses.

Book was ok but everyone is pretty pissed he left every single plotline except Arya's on a cliff hanger. In particular the battle for Winterfell has left a pretty lovely taste in everyone's mouths.

Noone (in here anyway) thinks he's dead. Either he wargs (as foreshadowed in the intro) or gets rezzed by Mel or some combination.

Yeah, I'd say the prevailing opinion is that it was slightly better than AFFC but still didn't advance the plot enough. In particular goons hate Dany's chapters, hate GRRM for doing a lovely job with goon-favorite Tyrion, and feel that most people can tell who is in who no matter how good the sex is. On the plus side, Theons chapters and Manderley. Jury is pretty much split on Brans and Aryas chapters. (personally I really liked Arya's and couldn't stand Bran's)

The beginning of the thread has some good discussion and will pretty much get you up to date on where the hive mind is at, once you get to debate over Theon's junk or lack thereof you can pretty much skip the rest.

The governor of California, Tywin is one of the most powerful men in America. He is based on one of the greatest American presidents ever, Ronald Reagan. Eddard's wife, she was a liberal and Evolutionist and tried to ban teaching of Intelligent Design and Creationism in the New England's schools and ban all references to God and Jesus. But since most of the inhabitants of the North were Wiccans and Atheists, they were damned anyway, so it doesn't really matter, does it? After her husband is executed Catelyn, tries to secede New England from America, and as we all know, that's only OK if you're doing it for States' Rights and slavery rather than trying to force atheist values on the people. Her evil plans, however, are stopped by Twyin Lannister, Roose Bolton and Walder Frey.

Sansa and Arya Stark

Though her parents were unsaved liberals, she had the luck to be adopted by the devout Petyr Baelish, who is trying to teach her to get right with the Lord. Unfortunately, Arya seems to have followed in her parents' footsteps, seems to have "ideas" and likes manly activities, like hunting and fighting. Perhaps, though, Martin will show us that Arya will get saved and become godfearing huntress like Sarah Palin.

I'm trying to decide if I should press on with this series after Storm of Swords. Most of the people I've talked to think it goes to poo poo both story and prose-wise, and I get really turned off by bad prose. Is it worth the time it would take to read the last two books, or should I just read something that's going to be better anyway (Mieville or Valente)?

GRRM's prose and use of language has been pretty bad/outright irritating the whole time so I'm not sure I can handle it getting worse.
