I'd already looked there, and Yellow/Blue/Violet UHF/VHF codes don't seem to translate well to the antennas you'll find at Best Buy (or anywhere other local stores, or at least stores within reasonable driving distance, Best Buy is about 45 miles away).

The antenna I linked, for example, doesn't tell you anything about what type of antenna it is other than being mounted outdoors for best reception and capable of receiving UHF, VHF and Digital signals within a 50 mile range of the broadcasting station (which I'm pretty close to the limit on, being 47 miles from all of them that I would normally watch).

Ok, well, can you take a screenshot of the results page? If I can see that, especially the angles it lists, I can help you. The antenna you have is a Medium Directional, so it would receive any stations that are listed as Red, Light Blue, Green or Yellow, as long as it's pointed at them.

If you have stations at far enough apart angles, you will need to some way to turn the antenna to receive those channels.

I don't actually have the linked antenna yet, I'm wondering what the over/under is on it working where I live if installed on the old satellite dish pole in the yard and pointed in a given compass direction (East Southeast toward Atlanta, etc.) to greater effect than the cheapo indoor HDTV antenna I tried today.

For what it's worth, a cheap $25 indoor HDTV antenna from Wal-mart only gets a clear signal from that ION station, FOX and the CW station, with a lot of black channels where the TV has a popup saying the signal is too weak after filtering out no signal at all channels with the automatic scan (and that's after moving it as far from the TV itself as the cable that came with that antenna will allow), near a window.

So where in this effortful post does it explain the meaning behind the terms 'Judge' and 'General' in the term? I know what an Advocate General is but I don't know what a Judge Advocate is. Why are they called this? It says highly experienced ones can serve as judges, but that doesn't explain why the whole corps is called that.

Ok, what I'm seeing here is you'll get most nearby channels if you buy that antenna, separately buy an amplifier that'd go in-between your TVs and the antenna, and point the antenna at about 103 degrees (that is, 13 degrees south of due east). If mounting it on the satellite pole in the yard doesn't work, then you'd just need to instead mount the antenna on the roof. To get WCIQ, WATC, and WNGH, you'd need some way to rotate the antenna to the proper directions. You can buy equipment that allows you to remotely steer an antenna but it can be costly, and you're probably OK with not getting those channels.

Something like this would work as an amplifier http://www.amazon.com/RCA-TVPRAMP1R-Outdoor-Antenna-Preamplifier/dp/B003P92D9Y/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1321914589&sr=1-6

Also: you might want to look into getting a satellite free-to-air box to reuse your existing dish with. There are a number of channels you'd normally get on cable or satellite only that can be received for free off satellites, as long as you're willing to get the right equipment and aim the dish right.

Does that mean they will test it before deciding whether to return it or replace it? Or they're just going to ship a replacement and then later go "we know why this one broke now"? I didn't so anything that would void the warranty, I'm just wondering how it works.

Yes, they'll test it. If it can be repaired, you'll get it back. If not, they should send you a new one. By the time they get back to you on why yours failed, you probably wouldn't care, lol.

It means they want to find out why it failed. It's not just so they can decide to blame you but to see if there's a manufacturing or design issue.

What kind of singing?

This isn't really answering your question I guess but I know a lot of singers (musical family) and they would all say that one of the key things a (real) singing teacher does is expose you to new repertoire based on your voice and your ability. I'd try to find a teacher (or site) which specialises in the style you want, so that they would hopefully have a wide range of songs within that style.

That said real teachers are also important because it's very easy to make mistakes with your technique and never notice them, and lessons in person have much better chances of spotting and correcting that. I know you said 'just for fun' but it is possible to harm your voice by singing 'wrong' so you want to be a bit careful. Teachers are fallible too however and there are a great many poo poo ones in the field that the singers I know work in.

TL;DR I know jack about singing websites but be careful with making your choice... I guess you already knew that!

Yeah, anything that purports to teach you to sing without hearing you is bullshit. When learning to sing, it's not just about learning good technique, it's about correcting your form in ways that you'll never be able to perceive on your own.

Even professional singers continue to study with voice teachers in order to keep things in check. There are an awful lot of things going on in your body when you're singing, and it's impossible to make a catch-all website that will help every person.

So my car now has a transmission issue that is going to take over $2,000 to fix. It also has issues with the brakes, the radio display doesn't work, etc etc.

It's time for me to buy a new car. I was thinking about going for a brand new car with a long warranty. However, I don't even know how to compare/contrast cars across different models, or where to start. EDIT: I'm an American, so of course I need guides or advice that would relate to my country of course.

I looked in AI, but it's obviously way beyond me.

AI frowns on "reccomend me a car thread" so you'll have to do the research on your own. Check out the stickies and start narrowing your search for what you want from a car.

Also, I would recommend reading the thread in BFC on the financials of owning a car. Personally, I frown on new cars over used cars but every situation is unique and a new car may be a better fit for you.

“Silent Blue - .random.”

This is a question for people who are or have worked in grocery stores.

When I go to a grocery store, I usually use a hand basket to load up my goods.

When I go to the register, sometimes people take out their items and place it on the belt and then place the basket on the floor the register - usually blocking some candy/magazine that's at the register. When one person does it, people usually follow lead and also place their basket where the first person did. So then there ends up being a stack of baskets in front of the register - blocking the lower shelf. Then an employee will later on take the stack and place it back in the front.

When I go to the register, I usually place the basket with all my items on the conveyor belt. I feel that this is easier for them but I'm not really sure.

Which is the better option?

Used to work at a store but that was so long ago I don't even remember what we did with them. Speaking as a consumer I usually put my stuff sans-basket on the belt, hold on to the basket it and take it with me back to where I got it from. To me putting the basket on the belt implies I want the cashier to do something with it when I'm going to be walking right over that way to leave anyway.

Consider yourself lucky your store still has those, most don't anymore. My guess is they think if you're coming in to buy too many things to carry in your hands they want you pushing a huge cart and maybe you'll have some urge to fill it the gently caress up with more stuff. Pisses me off, it takes twice as long to buy a few things when you have to navigate a cart around fleshmountains in eagle shirts who always stand side-by-side in the aisles. (They occasionally achieve a waddling forward motion but in a very slow zig-zagging all over the aisle pattern. Or reverse or turning motion sometimes too, this is almost always done without thought to their surroundings.)

Whatever I do, I always try to make it so the cashier isn't taking things out of the basket themselves. I've heard that the repetitive motion of taking items out can cause strain or something.
Usually what I do, if there isn't a place to put the handbasket in front of the conveyor belt, is set the basket on the belt and pull everything out myself, and then leave the empty basket on the belt. Then the cashier does whatever they'd have done with it if I'd left the items in the basket.

Take the stuff out of the basket, put it on the belt, and put the basket up yourself. They're usually kept by the front doors so you're going to walk past a stack of them anyway when you leave. Cashiers get swamped with baskets and "oh I don't want this after all" items and it's a pain in the rear end to be surrounded with stuff you don't have time to go put up when you've got a line waiting.

But yeah, your way is at least better than just leaving them wherever. Taking the stuff out of the basket doesn't cause any more strain than scanning stuff, it all has to be picked up anyway.

I don't know about strain, but it did seem to be a lot more cumbersome and take longer when customers didn't take the stuff out of the basket. I'm short so I would have to reach in with my arms at an awkward angle when the basket was on the counter. Made it really hard to pull out heavy and oblong things like detergent and dog food. I imagine it would be more difficult on a conveyor belt as well because my counter was directly in front of me and those are usually to the cashier's side. So I guess if you want your purchase to go slightly faster or you care about the (short) cashier, just take the stuff out of the basket.

Twitter stops you from seeing any more than 3200 of someone's tweets. If they have less than 3200 tweets total then that's fine, but otherwise you won't be able to go from the beginning, no. Allegedly the older tweets are stored, I don't know why no one can access them.

I will say, though, working at a store with no conveyor belt and a very small counter: it usually takes longer if the person has to pick each item up carefully, set it on the counter, I pick it up again to scan, and then put in the bag. On the other hand, when they just put their basket on the counter, the items only have to be touched once, and then I can put the basket in a designated area behind the register with me.

So in conclusion, I'd say it depends on the store but leaving it in the walkway at the front of the register is always wrong.

Most people can only relate to the government working something like a private business, where there's a CEO and he has the ability to make executive decisions and steer the company how he sees fit. It's why you see people saying "If Obama ran the US like a business he'd been fired a long time ago" when there is almost nothing similar between the two.

Also people who complain about the post office not making a profit drive me nuts.
