I am still having issues with it not opening to the newest post. This thread was shown with 2 new posts and it still opens to the first post on the page. I also just noticed I cannot hit enter while posting and have it start a new paragraph.

Really? That's a case I haven't come across when testing the beta. Either it would jump to the correct post on the correct page, or load the first post of the previous page. I've fixed it in the release version though, so thanks for bearing with it.

Good catch with the posting bug. Fixed.

The Weather Channel has updated their app. It looks nicer, scrolls much smoother and the live tile works great so far. The live tile also looks nice. It shows current conditions with an appropriate weather icon and also flips to show an updated radar.

Thoughts on the Awful app:

-The main forum list doesn't have an option for forum names starting with numbers, so I can't read the Skyrim / Saints Row forum from my phone on account of its name starting with a 3. :saddowns:
-I've been having an issue with jumping to the latest post, same as Doomsday Jesus. It tends to find the right page, but loads the first post on that page rather than jumping straight to the unread ones.
-People have already mentioned the "page 0 of 7" / "page -2 of 7" / "page 9 of 7" type stuff, but I'm just +1ing that bug report in case it hasn't been fixed yet. Not sure what the trigger is since it doesn't happen every time.

Loving the app, btw; great use of Metro and vastly superior to browsing the full site from my phone. Thanks for making it! :)

As someone who just got a windows phone and thus is new to this thread, while I do really like the idea of an SA forums app, it would be nice if all the last 3 pages of discussion could be moved into a separate thread. I think it distracts from the actual point of this thread, which is discovering sweet new WP7 apps.

Speaking of which, any audiobook players other than LindyAudio out there? It's the only one I can find, and short of about half a dozen ways to sideload content onto my phone, it's really badly made. No "jump to" functionality, no background agent to keep tracks playing while using other apps, no skip forward/backward a certain # of seconds, no accelerated playback...

I'm seriously considering using this as my first personal phone programming project, but I don't want to recreate the wheel if there's a hidden gem out there.

I was going to hold off on making a thread until the app hit the marketplace, but since it's taking longer than I thought, I'll make one anyway. In the meantime, if testers want to share their thoughts, post bugs, etc., just email me at nathanisaac at gmail.com. That way it won't take away from the thread's main discussion.

I've been looking for a good one as well, and have yet to find one. I think you should give it a shot and make your own. I'd be happy to lend you any tips to help you get started.

What's the deal with the OS version being reported as 7.1 for my Samsung Focus Flash? As far as I can tell I have mango features. Is this similar to how Windows 7 is 'really' version 6.l?

Just looking for some clarification!

My OS version is 7.10.7720.68. That is the Mango build number I believe.

Just to add to Doomsday Jesus' post, Mango is still very much a version of Windows Phone 7, so it's appropriate that the major version number is still 7. This is more akin to a service pack than a new OS.

Windows Phone 8 is not yet released in any form, although rumor has it that Tango may become WP8.

Certification for Awful on the Marketplace failed. Reason?

"Any content that facilitates, or promotes, whether directly or indirectly, the illegal (under applicable local law) or excessive sale or use of drugs is not allowed on any section/site, regardless of targeting."

Steps to reproduce?

1. Scroll to The Crackhead Clubhouse 2. Notice the drug related content.

It will be the default way, but I've implemented a way to put posts back in list form that is both mobile friendly and will allow you to flick up and down to your heart's content (Thanks kapinga for the WonderReader style suggestion). I still need to add code that allows users to quote and mark posts in list mode, so it will take some time. When it's done, I'll allow you to choose which view you prefer in settings.

It seems that this one is way further along than mine.

Seems kinda weird that app-developers are (somewhat) responsible for content their app may be used to view on the internet. You can view TCC with a browser too, so why are browser apps allowed? Where's the line drawn? (or I suppose it's just arbitrary by whomever's job it is to approve apps)

I would assume the line is drawn when an app's sole purpose is loading content from a specific site that contains something illegal/immoral. As every app is "approved" by the marketplace owner (MS, Google, Apple, etc), the content of that app is a reflection of the approving companies policies. When the iPhone App Store first opened Apple received a lot of media attention for approving apps with sexy pictures and other stupid poo poo, so that kind of set the current precedent of the "When in doubt, deny that poo poo" mentality. Microsoft has a large enough up-hill battle in the phone market as it is, they don't need a CNN headline that reads "Does the Microsoft app store teach your children how to snort Adderall? Experts say yes." There do seem to be apps that have almost naked women in them on the MS marketplace, though, so I guess pornography is OK, just no drugs.

Web browsers don't fall into this category as they're a gateway to public networks, and do not, by default, link to or recommend any content that would be considered objectionable.

That's my take on it, anyway. That being said, I really want an Awful app :(

I'll be honest, one of the biggest strengths of windows phone interview browser is overall fantastic. I've used pretty much every OS browsing SA and windows phone is the only one to have very little lag. I'm down for a specific app, but it ironically is not a huge need on windows for me.

Edward IV

Yeah, I never had any serious problems browsing the forums using Internet Explorer. However after trying the Awful app out, the most notable improvement over using the browser is being able to quickly move between subforums, threads, and pages. What made that difficult in IE is that it reloads the page when moving to the previous page, doesn't support going forward in your browsing history beyond clicking the link to the next page, only supports six tabs, and in my experience only keeps around three tabs rendered at a time. I never realized how big of an issue that was until I tried out the app and I'm actually looking forward to it getting published.

I've played the first couple of missions for Fusion: Sentient and it seems pretty fun. The trial, at least, is worth the time to download it. Also, it's only $2.99 so it my actually be worth the cost.
