What I took away from that is that the new Beetle is the worst of the bunch. 2 flat tires, looks like the radiator pops when it hits the gravel mound, and it's too slow to get any awesome air off the ramp.

real_scud posted:I don't know why the hell they were doing that, but it was awesome watching. Especially hearing the psssssssssssst as the air in the to right side tires go out on that Beetle as it smashed into the curb-like structure. If you expect your cars to last perhaps 15-20 years in the hands of average drivers, you need to test them in worst-case scenarios. Looks like a pretty fun job, too.

That's compressed air. There's no fuel injection, no glow plug system, no smoke or particulate in the exhaust, etc.

Got an hour or two to kill? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbB1qwhKaaE I am watching part two and god drat do I love that this is not 1984. A megasquirt is probably a far more reliable, precise and flexible device than whatever theyre trying to diagnose. Just crazy the amount of EFI problems they are having compared to what we deal with today even on custom setups. Lord Gaga fucked around with this message at 19:28 on Nov 23, 2011 |

A lot of mold patterns are still made by hand. 5 axis milling is expensive as hell and is the only thing that can even come close to doing the kind of work that humans can. Arms and brains are really hard to replace. They actually had the technology to machine the head out of a 5 axis mill but I bet the machine would cost a million+ in 1984 $. Renault was actually a if not THE pioneer of computer aided manufacturing as early as 1968. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_B%C3%A9zier I cant imagine the amount of programming time and setup cost that would go into machining a one off head like that in 1984. It really would be mind boggling. Lord Gaga fucked around with this message at 01:44 on Nov 24, 2011 |

If, when he started to lose traction after swerving into the parking lot turn in, he had stayed on the gas he could've gotten the rear to come back around in to the street and dialed the rear back in straight. Instead he let off. the rear tires hooked and it shot him into the car next to him like a loving douchebag.
