Guys, Legos have gotten so cool! Saw this at a Lego store and had to have it (and it was cheaper than the Super Star Destroyer, which I still want) Huge-rear end box: four instruction manuals: fuckton of parts: finished a chunk of hull tonight: Still trying to find some decent prices on the older collector sets. I think they've made bigger, complexer versions of the X-wing and Snowspeeder too. The little kid in me sees "capacity for 20 passengers" and gets all giddy inside; I can only imagine having my Lego Y-wing pilot guy landing the thing and unloading a mix of Episode I battle droids and Imperial scouts into battle Have you finished it yet? Are the capacity specs talking about the Lego model itself or is it just touting "Essential Guide"-like specs?

Legos have pretty much gotten worse since they started, what with all their stupid bigarsed pieces and focus on playing with the drat things instead of on the actual building. I don't want to put together three pieces and fly around with my ridiculous clonewars whatever, I want to spend time building my X-wing and when I'm done, I want to be able to construct a house or a car out of the same pieces. [end legorant] But, all that aside: Screw you guys, I own this thing! What you see under it is the manual. The brown thing in the cockpit is Chewie.

Yeah this is my first set in awhile, and I think some of the larger "panel" type pieces are probably special for this/other "large" sets. Alas no, it won't fit 20 minifigures inside, but it came with 5 I think: Luke, Darth, stormtrooper and two random Imperial mooks. The Lego SSD looks impressive in person; it is supposedly 49.5" long or something. The superstructure didn't look fun to build though... BonHair: that collectors' edition Falcon is sexy, goddamn.

Hey so I was thinking about Star Wars for some reason and I am wondering how people learn to speak diverse, alien languages and incomprehensible robot beeps and boops as dirt farmers on desert planets and stuff. Considering C3PO is a language interpreter/diplomat droid I am assuming there isn't a translator thing they can put in their ears to know what wookie undulating throat sounds mean. Do people instead learn languages like Neo learned kung-fu? Is Rosetta Stone just really good in Star Wars? Or am I overthinking this stuff?Xenophon posted:The 'rebuttal' was posted on stardestroyer.net, not theforce. Here's the link to the thread and the .pdf (via megaupload) This guy is loving angry. He has an insult at Stoklasa himself every other sentence. The RLM reviews were apparently taken very badly by some people. Apparently he also found the Plinkett character was implied to be a rapist rather than just a murderer (so we're all jerks for finding rape funny) and that hew as equally annoying as Jar Jar Banks. Also he spends 4 pages describing how Queen Aminalla was, in fact, a very deep and compelling character. So... Lassitude fucked around with this message at 19:57 on Nov 30, 2011 |

Do people instead learn languages like Neo learned kung-fu? Is Rosetta Stone just really good in Star Wars? Or am I overthinking this stuff? I always thought that Luke didn't really know what R2 is beeping about, but having grown up around droids he probably is able to tell what set of whistles mean "sure", which beeps mean "no", which warbles mean "danger danger Luke Skywalker", etc. As far as I remember the only time Luke specifically replies to stuff R2 says is when he's in his X-wing, because you can see that the X-wing has a little screen that translates what R2 is saying. Similarly I don't think it's too farfetched that Han can understand Wookiee having spent so much time around Chewie, especially when you consider that in Lucas' own backstory (which did not become part of the EU) Han always had a strong connection to Kashyyyk - he was originally supposed to have grown up there (as at one point was going to be shown in ROTS), and for a while Lucas even maintained that Han was married to a Wookiee (as I think the Han-character was in some of the earlier ANH drafts). As to how other people understand Chewie and R2, who knows...although come to think of it, are there any scenes where people other than Han actually respond specifically to Chewie? Lando I think, but I'm not sure.
