I've come to the conclusion that I've been relying too much on Wesker as a crutch in this game and my game has not really improved a whole lot over this year as a result. This is the first game I've tried to play competitively; being summarily destroyed at a local tournament this weekend has reassured me of this, so I've decided to go cold turkey off Wesker for awhile and experiment with new teams to improve my fundamentals. Right now I'm looking at a zoning team based on MODOK in the second slot and Dormammu in as anchor. At the risk of the answer being "pick Doom", what would a good point character for this team be? Basically I want to zone the opponent out until the end of time and if you could point out (hurr) a point man who would have good synergy with these two I'd appreciate it.

The reason Doom is so great for zoning teams is that Hidden Missiles shuts down full-screen super-jumpers. A surprising number of zoning characters can't control the top corners of the screen, so guys like Wesker or Chris can just super-jump, fire downwards and mess you up. Dormammu doesn't have that problem because Purification H owns, so he makes a great anchor. I'd definitely put MODOK on point and have Doom behind him. e: alternatively, Deadpool with his Trigger-Happy assist shuts down jumpers as well. quote:I was strongly considering Chris, is this A Bad Idea? Nope, Chris is good. He has the same problem that the above team has, though, compounded by the fact that he has no anti-air whatsoever. If you're going to roll with Chris, you'll need an assist behind him. Vengarr fucked around with this message at 12:39 on Dec 11, 2011 |

I finally got some time to watch those Bum fights (Bumfights?) and holy poo poo is that a godlike Haggar. Hey Wesker players, what do you do against Nemesis other than gun zone (if anything)? As good as Wesker's rushdown is it's hard to compete with that armor and range. Noramlly what I do is call Rapid Slash assist and once in a while try to catch his off guard when he's jumping with Vajra assist, which owns when it hits because I get a free OTG combo. Otherwise I find that my options are pretty limited. Any advice?

Seizure Robot posted:As a side note, if you're unaware, GR can backdash insanely fast by mashing back + MH or LH. It does something goofy, I think starting and canceling Spire over and over, and is great for putting distance between you and your opponent. If they block your Spire you can cover a good amount of ground before they can even do anything again. Wow that backdash trick is so good. I can play Ghost Rider and not get bodied now. Any tips on what to do after you hit people with Spire? Since it doesn't cancel to anything I've been throwing out H H and hoping for a frametrap or to hit someone out of a wakeup attack. Spire is a command normal so you can call assists during it, would the right assist allow it to be comboed?

You'de likely have to call the assist before you did spire in order to get that stuff to hit. You're likely best off either getting space, doing spire again, throwing out a wall bounce special to force the enemy to block and get chipped, or going for some sort of assist aided mixup then trying to combo off of spire.

Anyone have any tips for someone who's just starting marvel having come from super? I bought the guide and it's pretty good but the BnB's in it seem pretty intense. Should I be learning some simpler combos first? I was watching some stream of some tournament matches and it seems like even the pros don't use the super long combos.

Should I be learning some simpler combos first? I was watching some stream of some tournament matches and it seems like even the pros don't use the super long combos. BnBs aren't really that long or complicated most of the time. They're all pretty simple muscle memory and even some of the more "complex" combos like zero or dante are incredibly easy once you just practice them a bit. Just learn a midscreen combo and a corner combo for all three of your characters and you should be fine to have some fun. You can start progressively learning more things like extended combos, combos after air throws, etc. The marvel engine allows for a lot of creativity so for instance for zero practice (as a corner combo): s.l (hold), s.m, s.h, f.h, s, jump cancel, j.b, j.b, release buster, L lightning cut, land, s, jump cancel, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.s, land, super. But as you get better start trying things like: c.l, c.m, c.h, f.h, s.l (hold), s.m, s.h, f.h, s, jump cancel, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.s, land, jump, M Divekick, release buster, L lightning cut, land, s, jump, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.s, land, jump, M divekick, release buster, L lightning cut XX Level 3 Alternatively you can find a way to continue the combo after that last M divekick with some sort of assist and keep it going longer. E: legoman727 posted:Odd question, but are the twitch.tv archives not working for anyone else? THey'll load the video... then nothing. Hitting play doesn't actually start the video. This is because you have adblock or something similar that's preventing the loading/playing of the pre-stream ads. If you're watching archives just deal with having to watch one 10 second ad and then turn adblock back on whenever you watch an actual stream. To bold cancel teleport try this: Down+LS, Down+S e: or maybe do that backwards. I can't seem to remember.

I don't play Dante but I'm pretty sure he's unique in that there's really no "set" bnb and you can pretty much just do whatever the gently caress you can think of. Kind of like how some vergils will go for 2x round trips in corners and other will use his fireballs for damage instead, etc.

I've been working with Ghost Rider/Nemesis/Taskmaster since day negative one of Ultimate (trying to get myself off of a Phoenix team), and am realizing that this team has some serious offensive gaps against Wesker, Doom, Trish, and to a lesser extent Dormammu. Superjump (gun, photon shot, trish airplay, etc) is something I just don't have a counter for on this particular team and I'm looking to offload Ghost Rider, move Nemesis to point, and find someone who plays those matchups better to be my new second, preferably who also has a good screen control assist for Nemesis's sake. Hilariously Wesker does not help.

I can't seem to get it consistently. f+H, instant down+attack+S, then do down+S very very slightly after the stinger connects. Otherwise you'll teleport too early and will end up too high or too far. The basic Dante BNB is (in the corner): LMH f+H BC Volcano, j.H xx air play, j.H (land) H xx Wild Stomp xx Prop Shredder, super jump, Hammer, (land) Wild Stomp xx Stinger xx Bold Move into Hammer, (land) Volcano xx Beehive, Jet Stream xx Fireworks xx Super. Midscreen, you want to do a SJC teleport after the Prop Shredder and a BC teleport after the Wild Stomp xx Stinger part. You also might need to modify the beginning part to combo into Charge Shot xx Prop Shredder instead of Wild Stomp xx Prop Shredder depending on the character. You can use your assists to extend this combo accordingly (ex. after a Hammer, call Wolverine Tornado Claw and do Volcano, j.S).
