MvC2 isn't easy to do tool-assisted stuff in emulators. Plus the game has pretty much been split wide open by Joo, you'd have to put in a lot of work to show anything new.

I never knew Rogue could do the Raging Demon. Can she steal supers as well as specials, or was that hacked in or something?

That was just for the Akuma steal. Don't think she could steal any other supers.

I'd love to see another move-stealing character in another (not Smash Bros./Soul Calibur) game. I was kind of surprised that Taskmaster didn't have that ability when they announced him for MvC3.

Very true. And Joo was the first person I thought of after reading JM's post, 'cause I wanted to be all like, 'Oh yeah, MvC2 combo vids are a dime a dozen huh?' until I read the rest of the post. In fact I was specifically thinking of some of his Blackheart stuff.

So I own a MvC3 tournament edition fight stick from mad catz and my dog just chewed through the USB cable...how easy is this to replace...has any one else had an issue like this? I could probably repair it myself if I knew what to order since I have access to a soldering iron and supplies. Does mad catz do any repairs? I'm so livid right now since it's only a couple of months old.

If it is just the cable it is super easy to repair don't even need to buy anything, just cut off the little part that got bit, then solder the right wires back together it is simple.

You should be able to just resolder the inner wires. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think all that matters is VCC, GND, +D and -D, I don't think the shielding matters. So if you re-solder those 4 lines you should be good to go. EFB for the most part. Don't forget to put some heat shrink tubing around it.

I'm not sure exactly how the USB cable connects to the PCB on the stick, but I would assume that you can just open the stick up, cut and strip off the end of a new USB cable, and solder the connections to the PCB in the stick and be all set.

Soulcleaver posted:When making KOF '94 SNK wanted to give Rugal the ability to copy your character's moves after seeing you use them, but the hardware wouldn't allow it at the time. It should be possible now, though; just give the character every special move in the game and set them all to off until the opponent uses them. Depending on the game and engine, that could make for a fantastic character. This sounds really cool, but you'd probably have to overwrite moves if, say, Kyo/Ryu throws his fireball and then Iori/Akuma throws his. Also mirror matches would be kind of interesting if one of them had already absorbed some moves.

So I understand that the 360 pad is terrible for fighting games and I haven't played a fighting game at more than a basic casual level since Soul Calibur 2, I'd love to get good at Ultimate. I've never really felt comfortable, or competent, with a stick and I always used the D-pad for motions over an analog stick. I remember the PDP fightpad getting some buzz, but is that a decent option? Are the motions accurate on the fightpad's thumbstick, or is that more of a lost cause and I may as well just use the stock pad in that case? Or is this maybe more of a just buy a stick, get used to it, and shut up kind of thing?

I can't vouch for the PDP one, although people say good things about it, but even the stock Dual Shock is good enough. If you can get one and an adaptor, or a PS2 one and an adaptor, you should be fine. The 360 controller has a lovely d-pad, tho. Also, you can one-button dash in Marvel and that's a godsend.

From the sounds of it there's no reason he should have to touch the PCB. The cable ripped, just clean up and strip the ends and solder together the correct wires again. It shouldn't even involve opening the case (of course that depends how for up on the wire it got chewed through).

Or is this maybe more of a just buy a stick, get used to it, and shut up kind of thing? Of course, the games are very playable with a pad, just not the 360 pad. The PDP is a good controller, but myself have had troubles with the thumbstick going crazy on me. After about 50 hours played, the down direction stopped working alltogether. I wouldn't recommend it, since it doesn't feel like a pad, but a stick that you move around with your thumb. Dashes are stupid to do with the PDP and don't feel natural at all. If you want to stick to a pad, you better get a PS2 stock pad with an adapter. Otherwise, playing with a stick is much better than with a pad. It's certainly a non negligable investment, cash and execution wise. You have to dish out 150 bucks for a good stick and your execution will be poo poo the first 30 or so hours of gameplay. But once you get the flow of your new hardware, there's no turning back to pads for fighting games.

So just a follow up, I cut the cable and rejoined all the wires and the shielding just in cast and it works perfectly. I'll probably get a new cable sometime in the future and solder it to the PCB in order to replace the whole thing. Thanks everyone!

Amazon usually has them in stock, so I'd check there first. I like playing on stick, but I've just resigned myself to the fact that I will always have better execution on pad than on stick. Also, any current game that's not SFIV plays fine on pad.
