Raskin had one problem: Jobs regarded him as an insufferable theorist or, to use Jobs's own more precise terminology, "a shithead who sucks".

It says a lot for just how bleak that ending was that Bing comitting suicide live on stage seems like it would have been a less depressing ending.

That was really good. That actor should get an award at least for the final speech, it was very well sold and he looked like he was going to explode by the end.

Also, Rupert Everett.

Enjoyed that! I love the penalties for skipping ads, an and the use of the word 'gift' as verb (reflecting how social networking is producing weird language shifts, like Facebook's "unlike")...

I have a major criticism though: it was 20 minutes too long. I thought it was going to end with the porno, but it didn't. And I actually wanted him to just give in and have a wank. That'd be the ultimate horrible ending.

Ehh, I wasn't really feeling that one to be honest... Last weeks was a little overt about everything, but this didn't even try to be subtle. Probably would have enjoyed it more if it had been edited down a tad, but an hour and a half was a bit much.

Some really great acting though!

I guess that's her "real" name, but interesting she's decided to use it here.

Very different to the first one and I really enjoyed it. I half expected him to kill himself, but that wouldn't be very Twilight Zoney would it.

I would very much like to hear Konnie talk about what she thinks about that episode and what it was about.

I wouldn't say that I 'liked' either of the Black Mirror episodes, but I thought they were both good pieces of television. However, I thought last week's was tighter - I was genuinely gripped by what may happen in it, whereas I wasn't as engrossed in this episode. Daniel Kaluuya and Rupert Everett both put in fantastic performances.

That was pretty incredible, and yes, a fair bit better than the last one. Someone said they were billed as comedy - I don't think they ever were, I've only ever heard them billed as "dark and twisted tales" or something like that, which they definitely are. There were loads of enjoyable messages in it, but I particularly liked the Dail Mail type guy, he perfectly represented the horrible "not able to participate in the same horrible system we all do? SCUM" attitude we're seeing a lot today. And, obviously, the commodification of literally everything.

But yeah, gloriously dark, to the point that my flatmate came in during the second last ad break and while I was talking to him he said "whoa, what's wrong with you?" Incidentally I missed the ad breaks cos I was flicking over to the snooker, interesting the effect the show had on people's perceptions of them.

Finally, though, I reckon the moment where they meet by the urinals might actually be even cuter than it first appears. As we know, the episode was written by Brooker and his wife, Konnie Huq, who met while making that episode of Screenwipe, so I reckon that was a little (very Brookeresque) homage to how they got together.

I might be wrong, but the "awwww" from realising got me through the unrelenting torrent of despair generated by the rest of the episode, so I'm sticking to it.

What an incredible hour-and-a-bit of television. I really hope Black Mirror becomes a regular strand, maybe with Brooker in a show-runner role if he can't write loads of episodes. Allow talented writers to go wild with their darkest observations on where society may be heading.

Edit: Do we reckon that forest at the end was real, or had he simply upgraded to bigger screens?

I took it as a comment on the extent to which the presentation of media is managed, i.e. we're short on our quota of people from x or y demographic and we don't want to alienate x or y audience segment.

Bigger screens with a more realistic view rather than the cartoony bollocks everyone else has. It would fit with the theme of the ending which would be undermined if he actually got some form of true freedom.

Yeah, I wondered that. I'd actually like to think the forest was real, because you'd expect it to be a smog-filled apocalyptic wasteland and it's fairly original to suggest anything else. It ties in with the treadmill thing, too - maybe whoever created the whole system decided we needed to protect the environment from humans, and we've become entirely self-sufficient, allowing the world outside to flourish.

I figured something like this. Since we never see any outdoors shots and they appear to be living in some kind of gym-travelodge I figured the outside world is off-limits.

Enjoyed this more than the first one. Very Orwellian, very dark, and since the last thing I read by Brooker was his criticism of the Xmas adverts it seemed to flow very nicely on.

Is the current run of Black Mirror 3 or 4 parts, I can't recall. Hoping the viewing figures have been good and it becomes a more regular thing though.

Also, if anyone with the facilities to do so is able to get me an audio-grab of Bing's speech, I'd be very grateful.
