I'm not sure what a "Harmonious crankshaft" is, but I'm pretty sure your engine isn't "running smoothly" if you need to replace it.

He must be referring to the harmonic balancer. "A harmonic balancer (also called crank pulley damper, crankshaft damper, torsional damper, or vibration damper) is a device connected to the crankshaft of an engine to reduce torsional vibration and serves as a pulley for drive belts."

Holy poo poo, I think that dude called my dealership asking how much a "harmonious crankshaft" would run him. The service writer who answered had no idea what he was talking about, and it took me and another tech much longer than any of us liked to explain to both the writer and the dude on the phone that they were probably looking for a harmonic balancer.

Looks like he didn't listen.

Mostly they are beat to poo poo now. If you want a GT-R your spending north of 12k. They also have a big following in their home country, and are rapidly becoming collector cars.

The GTS-Ts and GTS4s are nothing special really, although for some reason people charge like 10k for them.

They're still a hell of a lot better than the basic models - the four cylinder R32 had about 90HP and the single cam I6 125 or so

That mostly happened back in the early 2000s

The R32 chassis also rusts like crazy - a lot of the ones that are coming into NZ under our older car rules end up being essentially non-repairable and pretty much end up as parts. The good ones end up the equivalent of about $15k USD on the road

I'm not sure about New Zealand, but in Canada I've never even seen a Non-Turbo Skyline for sale. I think people just don't bother to import them.

The GTS-T and GTS-4 are great cars, but I can't justify spending near GT-R money on one (might as well just spend more and get a good GT-R).

If they were 5-7K? Sure. If I find a reasonably priced GTS4(:v:) I may spring for it.

I assumed as much. I was tempted to call and ask if he meant the harmonic balancer (in other words doesn't need a new crank) or if in fact it needs a new crankshaft that is, in fact, one harmonious piece. As opposed to the several pieces that it could potentially be in.

My best friend's brother works for a fish monger and wants a work/personal truck that's gonna get decent mileage under $1500. I'm taking him to look at this on wednesday, these 80's rangers seem to be pretty reliable right? The amount of stuff he has to carry could fit in a mini van or a large trunk so it's not like he needs a diesel longbed or something.

Anything else he should be considering?

Aren't the 80s Rangers just Mazda B series trucks with a different badge/front clip? My dad had an 86 back in the 90s and it was a pretty nice truck before he destroyed it (as he did/does with all cars, this one died from either the valve cover gasket leaking so bad that it soaked the air filter and caught on fire or the carb broke and soaked the air filter in gas, it was a pretty long time ago and I was only a kid).

That depends on where. In the US, a B series was a badge engineered Ranger. In the rest of the world it was the other way around. Which is just nuts.

I think '93+ was when the B series and Ranger were the same. Prior to that they were separate.

My friend just had to get rid of his '91 B2200, the frame was rusting through in the rear. Of course, he just put a new head on it about 6 months ago. Looks like you were a bit far away, anyway.

I just saw that and shatbrix. I really hope he gets a ridiculous amount of money for it. It's truely a good find. It's my perfect car (minus those carbs) down to every last detail, even that loving rising sun sticker in the window. :swoon:

Edit: waitaminute are those mikuni RS carbs? this thing might be perfect after all. If they're RS40's then it's gold.

Further edit: nope they're HSR's. On second thought they're probably more appropriate after all.

Not a good deal at all. He shimmed the wastegate to get more boost, and blew the motor by not keeping up with the fluids and/or blowing the headgasket.
If you could get it for $1000 and could source a good motor for a reasonable amount, it might be worth it.
