New OP, courtesy of bennyfactor! Top Gear Series 21! Now almost as old as old Top Gear! New episodes of the series began airing February 2nd on BBC2, and in an unheard of feat of transatlantic content delivery, will air just 8 days later on BBC America (beginning February 10th). Upcoming episodes will contain a review of the Golf Mk VII, the Dacia Sandero (Good News!), a mess of new supercars, Jeremy racing a hydrofoil on a jetski, a trip to SE Asia, Chernobyl, and the requisite threadshitting about scripted bits and too many fakey explosions.. For those who have been dead for the past 10 years or so, Top Gear is a car-related entertainment show on BBC2 which, for the most part consists of a car review, the hosts cocking about amidst a series of challenges and a celeb interview Starring: Jezza Clackson Mister Slowly The Hamster and Stigadict Cumberbatch PS don't be an idiot and talk about Somebody fucked around with this message at 20:04 on Feb 7, 2014 |

India sounds promising, their specials in 3rd world countries have been pretty funny so far. The Vietnam episode is probably one of my favorites.

I really like the specials as well that they have in 3rd world countries. I thoroughly enjoyed the one where they had to get 4x4 vehicles and drive through the rainforest in Bolivia, to the "most dangerous road in the world", to Chile and the desert, and finished at the Pacific Ocean. I'm very excited for the new season to come out. They're always very entertaining and I find myself laughing at least a couple of times during each episode.

Very excited. It's really the only good show on TV anymore (well, there's a couple of exceptions, but nothing else gets close for quality). Can't wait to see James drive a Rolls Royce through India, declaiming on the lost glory of the Empire.

I don't like and have otherwise no interest in Tog Gear at all but I might catch the China episode for nostalgia's sake. Are they going to do a film segment at Datangshan? I saw there were some stills last year where they were dinking around in the huge crazy outdoor/under-a-goddamn-mountain aviation museum north of beijing, but I don't know if they made a segment out of it. I hope they did.

It's a copy of the Austin Maestro. The Montego was the next model up, with a proper boot... Both had magical powers - the steel they were made of magically turned to rust within 3 days of manufacture. From 326,000 Maestros registered as paying road tax in 1995, there are now only 468 currently taxed on British roads. The Montego has fared even worse - from 234,000 chugging about in 1995, there are now only 105 examples currently road legal in the UK. (Source - http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk )

There are no funny standup comics since Bill Cosby retired. On the bright side, Top Gear is funny, but not as funny as the people who don't like it.

Although, any of them can be used as an introduction to the show, you really get their personalities coming out moreso than in the regular episodes. After I posted this thread I went out to finish my Christmas shopping and picked up the December issue of Top Gear magazine, which is awesome, but pricey over here in Canada ($12.95) However, if you've got someone you still need to buy something for who likes cars and/or Top Gear you can't go wrong with a copy of the magazine.

Do the English have some sort of institutional hatred of Mexico? Every single British panel show I watch has at some point had a digression where everyone just gets really racist toward Mexicans.

Not that I'm aware of. If we did, it should only really come out once we've got bored of abusing Europeans, and that's not happening any time soon.

At a guess, it is probably distant enough from the popular conscience that they felt like they could make the joke because nobody would care. Like an American comedian taking a strident position against Austria, making fun of their chamber music and lederhosen. Though they aren't especially good at it. I prefer the jokes about prostitute murdering truckers, myself. Slo-Tek fucked around with this message at 23:31 on Dec 20, 2011 |

Look, I love Top Gear to death but I'm not gonna pretend that Jeremy Clarkson's publicly-made opinions on most things that lie beyond the realm of "the M3 is the best car in the world but it's driven by twats" aren't terrible, reprehensible, and stupid. Now, he gets a pass on it because "it's Top Gear and it's a funny show and we think cars are cool" but if you can't get why Stewart Lee- who is a professional and respected Funny Person, and has been for almost two decades- would want to skewer that, then you've either got the same persecution complex about the "Looney Left" that Clarkson gets accused of having (he does), or you aren't very good at getting humor.

He is entertaining. I hope this doesn't go down the path of expounding on the morals of Top Gear on the first drat page and running on for 10 shittastic, grueling pages. Also India special is going to be incredible. Driving an MG Midget and then seeing a mini go through those conditions... hilarious and i'm sure it will be torture for Hammond.
