So even if you bought a Saab before they went bankrupt the first time, your powertrain/corrosion/seatbelt warranties are still gone?

This is gonna be a precedent setting lawsuit. I've never heard of a "big" car company doing this.

The worst part is that the parts channel is going to dry up. I'll never have a first-gen 9-5 Aero wagon. :(

I'd imagine someone in each major market country would buy up the spares stock and the right to be an "official" distro, perhaps maybe in exchange for taking on the warranty responsibility?

Victor Muller's press conference regarding the end.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but I think he said in that video that "Saab Parts" is a separate entity that is not going bankrupt at the moment, so parts should still be readily available.

The press conference is an interesting watch for anyone who's been at least casually following the process. With his part being finished, Swan was speaking pretty candidly about his views on the whole thing. I'll have to watch it again since I found it hard to parse everything he was saying, but I got the following:

1) GM were being bitches about turning down deals which included all of GM's tech staying with Saab

2) Youngman and Pang Da messed things up by trying to buy Saab outright, which Swan knew GM would never cooperate with.

3) The admin guy at Saab who initially turned to China for help hosed up colossally.

edit: Victor Muller, bah I knew Victor Swan sounded odd.

That is correct - Saab Parts is a stand-alone company, with its own funding independent of Saab Automobile. It also happens to be a pretty profitable company too, so don't expect parts supply for your secondhand Saabs to dry up overnight. I'd say they'll be around for a pretty decent amount of time.

Warranties on newer Saabs though, they're hosed unfortunately.

I wonder if one could wrangle a ridiculous deal on a brand new Saab if they weren't concerned about the warranty and future issues. $15k for a new 9-3 convertible? (I wish!)

Well, I'm no longer a member of the saab crew. I haven't had a chance to get it up on the trailer and home yet, (It's still on the side of the highway) but my 95 900se convertible apparently spun a crank bearing last night. Sudden loss of power, oil spray all over the side of the motor from the area of the crank seal. Very difficult to turn over. Anyone want to buy my T25, Forge wastegate, blow off valve and custom intake? How about a set of ng900 three spokes with decent tires? The top is brand new as well, with custom white stitching.

I'd pass. There's better still available.

That said, I have a beautiful white '89 C900T 16V w/ 130k on it that needs to find a new home. I was going to put a 5 speed in it, but since the auto in it only has 15k since rebuild, I decided against that for the time being. It's located on the far west coast and has been pampered well. It is a DD, and not a show car - it'd need new paint and the dash (as they all) is cracked in several places. There are only a few very minor chips, but it's not show quality. Entire thing has been mechanically rebuilt within the last 10 years.

If you bought your car in 2009 or prior, GM is currently covering your warranty in the US and Canada. Otherwise, you seem kind of hosed, as it stands. Not exactly sure how the hell they're going to get away with it in other countries.

Pretty much. That's why US and Canada is explicitly covered. If they didn't uphold the warranty for cars we bought from them, they'd be paying one hell of a lawsuit, and they know it.

I actually bought it used during the Spyker period (July 2010) but it was built in 2008 which means I get warranty coverage...I guess? Given how short the warranty period is (4 years / 40k miles,) I might have one of the last remaining 9-3's under warranty. Time to get rid of this torque-steery POS.

I'm so loving glad I bought a 2007 9-3 SAAB wagon 2 months ago. Now I own an unsellable vehicle, because I was thinking of getting rid of it for financial reasons. I paid under 14k for it (15k out the door), 30something thousand miles. Still in warranty, that is if GM can take it in, but who? My local dealership doesn't even have the SAAB option for the Tech II and they said they didn't take SAABs when I called them a month ago. We've decided to keep it since a Civic will not work with twins.

I'm also really loving glad I can't find anyone who can program my spare key without having to drive 60 miles and destroying a day in the process. I haven't been able to because my wife is in bedrest and preggers with twins and could be hospitalized for an early delivery any day because of complications. Joy.

Oh well, cry more, right? :(

My sludgeprone 2000 95's been making a bit of 'exhaust is hosed' noise at idle for a few days, but cats and o2s reg fine, so ignored it for the last week that it's been doing it.

Left it alone since the 22nd, and took it out today for the first time. It's always had a little lifter tick when first started up in the cold, but, er, wait, its 60 degrees. Ok, it's still ticking a little and temp is about 120 internally. Great.

Let it slowly warm up, and the tick goes away. Good. All's normal. Run errands, but I have NO boost, even for a wimpy little LPT. Swell. Give it an Italian tune to force the little G17 to sing. Nope. Pickup's about the same as an N/A. Nice.

Can't find an exhaust leak, no obvious leaks around manifold.

Decide to park it and mess with it on driveway w/ EB on and rattle tranny back and forth since I know that mount is going bad. Noise goes quieter, but comes back in gear, as it will.

Ease it up to 2K RPM. Little noisier. 3K RPM, about normal. 3.5K RPM, it starts wailing like a banshee all the way up to 5k. 5k and beyond, it's just as quiet as idle.

I'm hoping it's magically got some new oil starvation issue (yes, it's got fresh Mobil 1, full, and just done less than 400 miles ago) and that's all, because this fucker's had too much money put into it, but it'd still cost more to replace, than repair.

gently caress you, car.

Sorry, it does suck. There has to be someone who can do your keys for you relatively near by. Of course, that likely means hours of driving..

Couldn't sleep. Tore into the beast last night. Small puddle of antifreeze under it. That's new. Oil, clean, overflow, clean. Replaced oil and filter anyhow. All's fine. Refilled. Now to get it in the air so I can get the stupid shield off and see what be broked.

It's coming from somewhere on the right side of the engine (right if you're sitting in the car). I'm going to put a piece of cardboard underneath it tomorrow so I can try to see where exactly it's coming from. According to the dipstick there's still some oil left in there even if it's leaking quite vigorously, and there's no oil/check engine warning lights flashing on the dash... yet.

What worries me is that the oil that still is in the car seems to be quite murky, even though I had an oil change about two months ago.

I'd try scoping, then drop the pan. You might be sludging. A little leak is fairly normal, but not making GBS threads through like an Audi.

As a minor "Oh FFS" sidenote, my Dad's '02 9-3 appears to be leaking power steering fluid - specifically, I think it's the crimp joint behind the right-side headlight on the hose that runs across the top of the radiator from the reservoir.

Anyone else seen that before? I'm used to mild leaks from pumps, racks and reservoirs, and sometimes the assembled joints aren't too clever, but this is the first time I've seen one of the pre-assembled crimp joints apparently fail.

First generation 9-3's are infamous for power steering leaks. The best thing to do is replace them with braided stainless high pressure lines.

Yeah, once he's sure on what's actually leaking, he'll probably replace it, and it's going to come down to either a standard replacement part, or generic hydraulic hose from a local specialist, whichever is cheaper.

It's not leaked before now, and it's a 2002, so while I'm surprised that it's gone, ten years doesn't seem too harsh.

I changed them out last year and couldn't find the exact discharge batteries so I had to settle for close enough.
