This is a cover Michael Turner did for the Batman/Superman arc that reintroduced Kara Zor-El to the post-Crisis DCU. Just look at Kara's abdomen: it's nearly twice as big as her chest! And the legs!

I decided to "fix" Kara in GIMP by vertically compressing her body below the rib cage. Do you guys think this is better?:

Turner's characters often have stiff poses. It's very 90s. It's like he's trying to draw pinups.

Frank Miller's art seems to grow progressively worse over time. I just read Holy Terror, and it's a mess. It's very hard at times to figure out what is going on in many panels, because he uses no color, omits background detail and distorts characters. There are also problems with perspective and unnatural character motions.

Take this panel:

I'm guessing this is a shot taken from above of two characters leaping over debris. I think. From the context, they're supposed to be navigating through the ruins of a bombed city. But you'd have no loving clue looking at this alone.

Another panel I hated:

there is also the whole swirling vortex of rabid misogyny that is Miller's writing, but I suppose that's separate from his art, which has indeed gotten quite bad

Horrible with human anatomy, but the guy could draw some great looking monsters. I remember Krytpo, Batmans wetsuit, Darkseid, and Superman's exotic zoo looking pretty great.

I remember his Marvel covers looking horrid, but I still miss the guy.

Oh I know, I just think it was really funny to see all the posts talking about the "symbolism" and "deconstruction of his previous works" Miller was putting in DKSA when it was obvious it was simply incoherent because of incoherence, not some high minded artistic intent.

Because that was what people THOUGHT Miller was doing...until he revealed it was written during 9/11. Up til that point, his works had been decent and seeing him completely devolve into incoherence was jarring.

I'm not going to defend that work, but I absolutely love the art in Sin City. Sure the stories were all the traditional Miller fare of Jerks and Whores, but I'm such a sucker for noir that I still enjoy the books.

Todd Nauck's art got pretty weird in his Wildguard books. It came as a shock because generally his art is good and it was what got me hooked on Young Justice. Do these people's heads look a little too small? Also, I think the women in the purple top has a dislocated shoulder.:

Does whatever
a multiple can.
The legs, particularly on the females, look like fun-house mirror reflections. I can't quite figure out what's going on there. The woman in the middle is the worst. Between the legs, odd torso, and breasts bigger than her head, she has some real problems. Also, while I appreciate the fact that the characters actually have fingers as opposed to the club hands some artists draw, it seems weird that half the characters are violently clawing the air.

Edit: And yeah, THS. Tiny Head Syndrome. They could start an awareness group.

I finished reading Wizard of Oz last night with Skottie Young and I find the art to be mindblowingly good. After I read a page I would go back to the top of the page and just look at the pictures.
The style was cartoonish and charming, and created a great atmosphere in the comic.
Each character design seems perfect (for me the lion was the best) and is something out a cartoon that would appeal to kids and adults alike.

This is from Birds of Prey #42, with awful art by Glenn Fabry. Fabry is generally a good artist and has done some excellent covers for Preacher, but he made a bad decision by drawing Power Girl like a steroid-chugging female bodybuilder.

But not only is the work fugly, it also makes gaffes. In this panel, the artist forgot Power Girl's boob window:

And in this one, he gave her leggings:

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.
I have to assume that Kyle Baker was on a deadline or something because I know he can do better than that.
