I never owned that sourcebook (I did own the Somerset Strikers one (it sucks)), is there a portrait of every Black Thorn? I'd be curious to see how stereotypical they made Ajax and Badicus O'Shea.

I have a present for you, thread. In case you weren't/aren't the sort of sick, savage completist that actually paid good money for a copy of the Thorns sourcebook, I've taken the liberty of putting this together. I never played MW 2nd edition but I am sure that some of those character stats are just loving hysterically funny.

Rose has 'Sixth Sense' and he still let his buddy jump up on a rooftop building with 3 clan assault mechs incoming to "scout them out" and got him killed? He's the worst. This turn I think my options are fairly limited, so I'm thinking move up to 1424, turn one right to prepare for moving up to the next street over the turn after, shooting at S7 and S1. Not sure if I want to split my fire up like that or just focus down one mech.

I think the bad thing about bad writers writing for BattleTech is that they don't quite understand the idea of there being no good guys or bad guys, only shades of grey. They interpret this as meaning that everyone needs to be some kind of horrible antihero who get away with all kinds of awful stuff without anyone questioning them. On a boardgame note, for some reason I had never considered that a unit can TAG for its own attacks. Probably because until the Patriot, there weren't any mechs with artillery weapons and TAG at the same time. <3 onboard artillery

Artillery attacks have a hard 6 hex minimum range so you have to be careful, but a homing Arrow IV is pretty much a very long-range AC/20 with 10 points of splash on any surrounding units. Standard rounds fired at hexes will completely annihilate any battle armour squads caught because each trooper takes full damage.

Oops, clearly I don't use homing artillery enough. Most of my on-board artillery mayhem is fired at hexes themselves. I've never actually used protomechs either. Don't they act as seperate pieces but share initiative as a point? Edit: While I'm brushing up on BT rules, are there any advantages for a mech that has a lower arm actuator but no hand? I know if it has both it can make better melee attacks, pick things up, etc. and if it lacks both it cna flip arms. What about a mech that's in between? Omnimechs have that thing where you can't install certain weapons in arms without remove the hand, but for battlemechs that have space (most level 1s for instance) the only purpose it serves is so you can have cool Mega Man style arm cannons. I'm nowhere close to a min-maxer, almost every custom mech I make is a variant of a canon mech that matches it as closely as possible except for the customizations, but it seems kind of silly that arm cannon-style arms don't have a special bonus, like increased accuracy for weapons or something like that.
