I'd actually never considered the possibility until just now, but that's probably because I only caught up with HS last week and this is my first real exposure to the fanside of homestuck (I refused to explore it before for fear of spoilage)

So here's an interesting thing I noticed: Prospit has a religion, but who do they worship? The kids who have the potential to become gods, of course! So... why are they fighting against each other, if they worship the same gods?

If the folks on Propsit worship anything, it's probably the Genesis Frog and His Bountiful Croak. The kids seem to relate closer to legendary hero figures. Also aren't they fighting Derse because Derse wants the absolute destruction of Skaia? Isn't that a whole thing?

SatansBestBuddy posted:So here's an interesting thing I noticed: Religion may frequently be used as an excuse for war, but its still usually for material reasons. Although Derse probably just hates Prospit because they're supposed to as game constructs.

Also aren't they fighting Derse because Derse wants the absolute destruction of Skaia? Isn't that a whole thing? Wouldn't worshiping Skaia itself make the most sense? Since it's like their sun and is the nexus of all possible creation or something like that? It also gives the prophetic visions of the future.

It's been said a lot, the whole creation/destruction dynamic between the two. Prospit wants Skaia to survive to create a new universe, and Derse does not. The entire end point of the white/black conflict is that Derse wants to start the reckoning to destroy Skaia, and they need the White King's scepter to do it. Prospit's role is to prevent this from happening for as long as possible, hopefully so the heroes of the game will destroy the Black King's scepter in time to stop Skaia from being destroyed. (Of course, both sides usually follow the rules of the conflict in fighting their war, which is why the kids don't usually get murdered in their sleep before the game starts. Crocker doesn't play fair.)

Well Manicured Man posted:On the subject of Ithaca (which is great), Bowman's songs really remind me of David Bowie in that kind of oddball sci-fi way. Granted, the only Bowie album I've listened to so far is Ziggy Stardust... I think I preferred the overall sound of Mobius Trip and Hadron Kalaedo, but this album is a treat and I unironically enjoy Bowman's odd Bob-Dylan-on-helium voice. I think I need to listen to it more so it can make more of an impression on me, though. unironically-liking-Bowman-buddy. Personally I feel like Bowman's singing is what you'd get if somebody decided that "in the shower" or "along with the radio" was an actual honest singing style that it just so happens nobody is very good at, and then set out to perfect it. This also makes the message/imagery behind the lyrics a lot easier to follow for me, probably as a tradeoff from them being less of a second melody and more just words that happen to change pitch, sort of like listening to a good poetry recital (as opposed to the terrible ones where everyone uses the I Am Reading Classic Poetry voice, aka the faltering drone). Looking forward to more crazy retro stuff.

I love Bowman's reedy voice. I love odd sounding singers, like Martyn Jacques of the Tiger Lillies' whimsical falsetto or Mai Yamane's husky androgyny. Playfulness seems to come through when he sings and I can't help but smile whenever I listen to "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"
