True. Whenever I visit my parents we will typically watch a movie or two on TCM, and many of them are 1.33:1 movies. I always adjust their TVs settings so the picture is not stretched. They don't complain, but when I return the next time it's always changed back.

I've found that your average person largely doesn't give a poo poo about any of this stuff and that a lot of people who've adopted the blu-ray format just did so because "it's the new thing".

Christopher Nolan was born on July 30, 1970. So as far as I'm concerned, July 31, 1970 is actually January 1st, 0001.

It will be nice to have Christmas2 (aka Nolanmas) right near Independence Day.

I think I read something about a German DVD but I won't hold my breath. I don't blame Criterion, they'd probably be taking a huge bath on any halfway decent release. I know they took a sizable hit for The Human Condition. I wonder if anybody's ever suggested the idea of a Kickstarter to them.

Unfortunately HMV Canada doesn't carry it, but at least our cover art is nicer than the US one.

It'll be a re-issue of the existing DVD. Might as well since the surviving material isn't great and the DVD looks great with that in mind.

I noticed this triple feature of The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, and How The West Was Won blu-ray is out now. This is a fantastic collection of classic westerns. The Searchers is probably in my top 5 favorite movies period.

How the West Was Won is a surprising film. I was expecting it to be a bloated mess, but it's incredibly entertaining. The cinematography is mind-blowing, top-notch cast, and there's even a few musical numbers. I'm wondering if the triple-feature release uses the Smilebox version. I can't say the "flat" Cinerama transfer is very effect since it's about 2.90:1 and only the curved version corrects geometry as you would see in a theater.

The audio mix is great, too. Cinerama used a 7-channel magnetic system that required everything to be recorded in 7-track.

Yeah I'm really curious myself, I hope it has both versions or at least the smile box version.

I actually got to see How The West Was Won this summer in a real Cinerama theater in it's original 3 projector glory. Let me tell you the experience was jaw dropping.
