For Epic Touch Users:

If you set your brightness to manual (Home->Menu->Settings->Display) and move the slider all the way to the left(lowest brightness), does your screen have a purplish-tint? (It's noticeable especially in the notification bar and the menu buttons of the built in browser, if the browser has the default brightness settings) I know mine does, and it has an unusual vibrating bands looking effect in the whitest areas (like the Google homepage, or the background of a post on the awful app.) I was thinking it might be a screen defect issue, but out of 4 Epic Touches that I've tested, 2 exhibit the purplish effect, with the manual brightness set to lowest and 2 don't. If you have an Epic Touch and have a moment could you test to see if your's does too?

I didn't worry about unrooting and removing ClockworkMod recovery when I sold an Evo 4G. Just use the ClockworkMod app and install the newest deodexed Sprint Sense ROM with the newest radio. AOSP-based and MIUI roms don't have access to the ##dialer programming codes or Hands Free Activation that the new owner will need.

Installing a new ROM will erase /system and /data. Format your SD card and you're good to go.

When was the last time they released a phone that didn't have something glaringly wrong with it right out of the gate?

Hell, does the GPS even work on the Galaxy Nexus? Samsung hardware has been pretty much synonymous with "no drat GPS if you have so much as a cloud in the way" for a long while now.

As for this:

I liked my Hero. Then again, the alternative was Verizon or the Moment. gently caress 'em both. I truly feel sorry for the people that live in a Comcast-only, Verizon-only area. It's like paying to be DP'd and then paying again to be the bukkake target afterwards.

But anyway, eventually the Hero's star had faded away and they EOL'd it. Luckily, CM came around with god damned Gingerbread on the thing. It ran all right, but then I bought an Epic.

And I've been bitter ever since.

I haven't heard major complaints about the AT&T SGSII, Skyrocket, or T-Mo SGSII (aside from being "weird"). I'm not sure about the Stratosphere since very few folks actually have it.

The trend here is that Samsung's GB devices are largely OK. The exception is the E4GT which had the loss of signal problem on release, although admittedly it manifested rarely outside of running custom kernels with weird config options enabld.

The Entire Universe posted:

Of course it does.

The Entire Universe posted:

Most Samsung hardware does GPS just fine, it's the software that's botched, sometimes. Admittedly it took them until GB to figure it out, but my understanding is that the GPS works just fine on the CDMA Tabs, NS4G, Fascinate, and a patched Epic, which all use the same baseband and GPS hardware.

Granted, Samsung should be drug over the coals for releasing the Epic GB update with a botched GPS daemon even thought they had a fixed one running on other devices for months, including the Sprint Tab.

I'm not sure what to call that kind of incompetence. It's not really gross incompetence, because they clearly managed to get the GPS hardware working. It's just stupidity that they were unable to push the right fixes where they needed to go.

Yeah, life is painful when your "only" options are super-fast DOCSIS 3 cable or FIOS. Try Time Warner and AT&T country where your options are "meep meep!" and high-latenty U-verse. But I don't know what that has do with this thread, or forum frankly.

Don't update it. Honestly, I'm not completely sure if the update was fixed (my fiance no longer has the shift), but i wouldn't risk it.

What happened was the gingerbread update made the shift run slow and crash a lot (it would go to the white HTC screen). I think it has gotten slightly better, but not by much.

No, if you go to the network vision page sprint is turning both 850mhz and 1900mhz into LTE as well. So basically, LTE will at the very least be at the same coverage sprint currently has (eventually of course). Lightsquared would be nice to augment that, but it is not necessary.

I sure hope they roll that stuff out soon. I don't really want to go to Verizon but 3g speeds are so terrible I'm about to just pay my ETF and switch. Yesterday I did a speedtest on my phone and my work laptop with a T-Mobile internet stick. My phone had a full 3g signal, 6/6 bars on my Epic 4G Touch. WiiMax was not available. I got 101 kbps down on the phone, 4100+ kbps down on my T-Mobile "4g". Sure, WiiMax is faster but it's rare to have coverage in Jacksonville. I've done several speed tests over the past several months and I don't think I've ever seen over 300 kbps on 3g, it's awful.

With all the drama going on in the 3D dev scene on xda lately it's a relief to see anything at all coming out, especially something as big as ICS. I've been running alpha7 for a day or so now and haven't had any problems. The call volume was a bit low but using Volume+ on +3 it's plenty loud.

I also jumped from the included Trebuchet launcher to Nova Launcher which has been running perfectly. I pushed it to /system/app before installing it so be sure to do that if you try it, that seems to take care of a few issues that might crop up. The Widgetlocker guy is behind Nova Launcher and he responds to bug reports with fixes really quick.

EPRP and third party retailers like Amazon are incompatible. You have to choose which one you value more - 16.67% off of the base plan every month forever, or killer phone deals at third party retailers.

No, you cannot switch to EPRP after the fact. And yeah, you should look into corporate discounts you're eligible for, because 16.67% isn't that much of a discount to be honest.

Maybe they're going to price it at $200 instead of $300 like the Verizon GN. Honestly I think 16GB is enough for most people, and consumers are more like to notice it being a third cheaper than Verizon's model rather than the reduction in storage.

The other thing is that Verizon has a glut of LTE phones on the market that they can (and want to) sell at lower price points, whereas the GNex is a launch Sprint LTE phone, so they probably want to make it accessible to start folks transitioning to LTE devices.
