Also, the US and Sweden routinely converse on matters of advice. (now, more than ever, due to Kim Jong-Il's passing)

So after going through both security investigation and my medical clearance finally getting straightened out last month, I decided to fire off an email to find out whether there had been any determination on my candidate status. Only to find out that according to HR, I withdrew my application (I didn't) and that I have no status. I'm supposed to talk with HR next week to see if there's anything I can do to straighten it out, but it doesn't look good. Wonderful holiday news.

So apparently a friend of mine passed econ with 5.7 on his first try. He didn't even apparently mention he spoke Turkish and a touch of Arabic because he didn't want to be bound to the middle east. That whole disabled (5%) vet thing really helped though. I'm super jealous. I told him to enjoy stamping passports in Manila.

To nitpick, it's "points" not percent -- your disability rating doesn't have anything to do with it (well, it does in that it could be what bumps you up to 10 point preference, but there are other ways to get that too and BEX never actually sees what it is that justifies your preference, only the registrars do.)

A lot of the internal transfer programs also require tenure. Edit: Also, what the poo poo, come on QEP process.

Oral Assessment question here. I'm in Europe for a work project. My OA is scheduled for the end of January. Departure would require my resignation from the project, which will last several more weeks afterward. I emailed the reschedule desk at state.gov. They responded that there was nothing else available for winter, but that I could opt for the spring waiting list. How bad of an idea would this be? I'd really prefer not starting from scratch again.

Well, if they can guarantee you an OA for spring (and better yet give you a schedule date), I'd really see no downside aside from possibly getting on the register later if you pass the OA.
