I want the Brownstone-y goodness of the house that comes with the Pet Shop. The Emporium is nice (although I'm getting 100 less bricks than the Fire Station for £32 more, which doesn't seem fair somehow). Cost is a huge issue for me, and the Pet Shop looks more fun.

EDIT: awesome, new page! Last one was becoming slow to load with the many huge pictures.

Just got a text from my girlfriend that while I was at work she went to the Lego store and felt for all 16 of the new mini figs to pick up for me. I think that is a very nerdy definition of love.

So yeah, Series 6 are officially on Lego store shelves...

Alwaysss loved legos as a kid and building anything, airplane & tank models, 40k miniatures and I'm glad i came across this thread. One question, i saw bricklink but I need just a mass set to get started. Any suggestions? I checked out Ebay and saw some sales but wasn't sure what people's experiences were? Looking to spend ~$100 starting out.

What themes did you enjoy as a kid SockFight? I would go for a castle or pirate ship set if you can find a good deal. If you just want good parts and minifigs aren't a huge deal for you, I would look at the creator sets. Then just get whatever one has lots of the colours you like to use. I tend to personally like the ones that give you lots of parts in more natural colours, browns, tan, greys, green.

I generally find better deals for new in box sets on Bricklink than on Ebay.

I agree with Manchild King. Get a set you want or, if no themes grab your fancy, go for creator. See if you can find the Sonic Boom, you should be able to get it for under $100, according to amazon.

Well I was browsing the used adds and I found what I think was my very first Lego set. I knew I had a bunch of space classic WAYY back, but all I knew is I had the parts, but not what they were. When I saw the picture I had a huge flashback. I think I might still have all the parts for it!

That's an excellent parts set, too, as long as you're looking for tan. It has 556 tan cheese slopes alone.

I've finished my first Friends MOC. I'm trying to apply what we know about the characters to more exciting settings than just "the cafe, the house and the vet." It is in that spirit that I bring you Mia's "Beauty"

Taking her concerns for animal health and welfare to the skies, Mia teams up with veteran gunner Oscar (yes, the hedgehog has a name) and takes to the skies in "Beauty" a retro-inspired, environmentally conscious low-emission long range scout.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Black Pearl set? I found it at Walmart on sale and picked it up, just finished piecing it together. It's the first set I've picked up with actual minifigs since starting to build again, and I can see why everyone likes them so much now. There's a ton of detail and cool pieces for these little guys -- I particularly like the shark-head man from the set. Also these new spring-loaded cannons are awesome, how long have those things been around?

Uhh, about twenty years dude. My first ever pirate set had one!

But I'm really happy with the Pearl as well. It and the Queen Anne's Revenge are fantastic sets. All we need now is a Flying Dutchman!

The spring-loaded ones? No way. I had tons of pirate sets growing up, and all I have at home are a bunch of regular grey cannons. They have the same base and the exact same shape, but these are the first ones I've seen that actually shoot.

Maybe I just never had the right set. :(

They've definitely been around since the late 80s-ish or so, but I heard they didn't make it into many US sets because of child safety laws or something. None of mine fired either. :(

The original Black seas barracuda had spring loaded cannons. I don't thin the BP is better than the BSB but it's pretty good. What does annoy me is Lego's tradition of not providing a full set of cannons for the ship:(

All the first wave of Pirates sets had cannons that fired. I'd stage wars between the BSB and the Caribbean Clipper + Eldorado Fortress, and they all had working cannons. Then one day they stopped making them :(
