At around 9 bucks a movie I think I might get this. I haven't seen many of the older Bond films and this will be the excuse I need to plow through them. I'm sure not all of them are any good but oh well.

I really want an individal release of Spy Who Loved Me, and OHMSS. The full set is tempting, though

Unless there's a really good sale that takes it down to $100-125 by the time we see more of the individual releases, I likely will pass on this. I could probably recoup at least $30-40 easily reselling my individual discs.

If I didn't already have three sets (one is a Best Buy set which had TMWTGG, QOS and LTK) + Casino Royale I'd be all over it, even at $200. Was kinda hoping that they'd continue with the 3 movie sets but I guess that's kind of a crapshoot since the selection is fairly random.

A Trip to the Moon Includes the new Lobster Films restoration with soundtrack by Air. A restored B&W version is also included with two audio tracks: orchestral by Robert Israel and piano by Frederick Hodges, both with recorded narration. It also has the hour-long documentary on the restoration The Extraordinary Voyage. Two more Melies films are included as extras (The Eclipse and The Astronomer's Dream). Flicker Alley's edition is a dual format steelbook with both Blu-Ray and DVD. (There's no release date listed, but you can pre-order for $30 on their website)

While the restoration isn't flawless, the image quality is incredible for an ancient film. The colors seem to pop off the screen. For that matter, a Blu set of early cinema would be really neat. It'll probably take a few years for it to become feasible, but it would be perfect for film classes. The DVDs are really difficult to navigate.

The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is coming back into print from Warner. The previous release was by Dark Sky Films. If you have a copy, I would suggest holding on to it. It's very possible that the demand for it will shoot way up if Warner botches their release.

Egbert Souse posted:A Trip to the Moon Does anyone have any experience dealing with Flicker Alley, mainly outside the US? I have no problem at all with the $10 shipping costs to Canada, but i'm curious as to how long it takes to ship and the condition it arrives in. The only other US company I've ordered from outside Amazon is DeepDiscount - and I don't feel like waiting 3-4 months after it ships as it's rattling around in a loose cardboard box. I'd love to see this on bluray after having not watched it since University back in 2006 - and during Hugo.

I'm trying to order the Alien Anthology from Amazon UK, and I must be doing something wrong... it has my Canadian shipping address, but still says the shipping is only £3.06. Plus the actual boxset is only listed as £12.49 in the "Order Summary" window Am I gonna get hit with some crazy import fee adjustment later on? This deal is too good to be true.

I like the little differences with the .uk Amazon such as the shopping cart being called a basket. Just ordered that Coen Brothers set, when I put it in my basket the price went down to 12.66 and shipping was only an additional 3.08. Are there any really good bluray releases that are region free not released here in North America to be aware of?

However, if you order to a place out of Europe, VATS is removed on the roder summary, and as such, the item is even cheaper.

Well to be fair this is a totally new line apart from that first release. That is why there was such a gap. MGM went tits up a couple years ago and that is also why it has taken so long to get the next bond movie rolling. It is stupid kind of I guess, but you shouldn't look at it like this is a continuation of the previous release. I feel that distinction makes it a little less annoying anyways. I'm sure they will break the set up eventually. Or maybe not. At that point I would say "gently caress them".

Just curious but why has your blu ray buying gone down as the format has become cheaper? Just not watching movies as much or what? Also I'm pretty sure the big ones will get individual releases sooner or later. It would be a real shame if they didn't.

And what's the deal with Warner? Do they have a reputation for loving up releases? Dark Sky put out a Blu-Ray (and I have a first run copy with metallic cover paper ). I phrased that wrong. It's not that Warner has a reputation for loving up releases (actually the opposite, they do a pretty good job most of the time), it's more like can Warner match/beat the current release. Dark Sky did a great job with their release and it has a ton of extras (2 commentaries, 2 full-length documentaries, a few interviews). If Warner doesn't match the extras Dark Sky has on their release and/or has a subpar transfer, I could see the Dark Sky edition become in demand.
